Also try reading the coinage act of 1792. Paper currency was hated by the founding fathers after the Continental fiasco.

Well, either gold or silver I guess. Silver was used before. An American dollar was never really defined until the coinage act of 1792. They looked around to see what currency was in circulation the most at that time and it was the Spanish milled dollar, because apparently, various forms of specie from other countries was being used and so since the milled dollar was the most common they based the American dollar on it.
We just have to avoid a bi-metallic system because of Greshams law.
You have to understand that the, "price" of gold is based on it's relative worth when compared to the paper money of equal worth. Inflation is bad so it takes more paper to equal the same amount in gold. It's relative value. The gold stays pretty much the same, most of the variance comes from the debasing of the paper because they keep printing it.
I am just pointing out a possible problem. If the problems associated with Gresham's law can be avoided then fine. I want to avoid any problems and don't really care if it's a single system or multiple.
I think our gold reserves have long ago been plundered. But ya never know, there might be a few scraps left.
Or………go back to using LEGAL currency. The only legal currency in this country is specie. The founding fathers did it this way to try to keep the wealth of the country in the peoples hands in the form of their silver and gold currency.
