there's no need to avoid a bi metallic system when both metals are precious. the U.S. had a bimetalic system in place for years and it worked fine. in fact even when gold was removed silver still remained in circulation for decades and decades until the treasury announced they were removing silver from our coinage and minting clad starting in 1965 with the new coinage act

Gresham's law only applies when you have bad money and good money. it's what happened when the government replaced minting coins of silver with coins of worthless clad. they didn't anticipate the mass hoarding that occurred because, well people weren't stupid and silver is real money unlike clad
