Will Smith Appears to Get Emotional While Paying Tribute to Late “Fresh Prince” Costar James Avery During Las Vegas Show
Will Smith's latest concert was a poignant one.
On March, 20, the actor/musician performed at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, where he paid tribute to his former costar — the late actor James Avery, who played Uncle Phil on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air — during one portion of the show.
TMZ reported that during the set, Will, 56, appeared to get emotional — seemingly wiping his face with a towel — as he performed a cover of"Apache"and videos of Avery played in the background.
At the concert, Will performed classics like "Gettin' Jiggy Wit it," "Men in Black," "Miami" and "Wild Wild West." He also played a cover of Tom Jones' 1965 classic "It's Not Unusual," per Setlist.fm. (Jones famously appeared on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.)
Earlier this month, Will revealed that his first full-length album in 20 years, Based on a True Story will be released on Friday, March 28. He dropped his last LP, Lost and Found, in March 2005.
Will's 14-track album will feature several collaborators, including DJ Jazzy Jeff, with whom Smith first made his mark in music, Teyana Taylor and Jac Ross.
"It’s OFFICIAL!! My new album Based on a True Story drops March 28. TWO WEEKS!! Hit that presave. Been working on this project for a minute and I’m itchin’ to get it out to y’all 🫶🏾," he wrote on Instagram with the release date and album cover.
