CDC advisory committees not mandated by law at risk of being terminated
According to a report by Politico published yesterday, March 21, 2025, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) suggested the potential elimination of several discretionary advisory committees under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). An email obtained by Politico, sent to CDC leadership on March 21, indicated that the agency had until 10 p.m. that day to provide justification for retaining these advisory bodies. A subsequent email, however, clarified that no immediate response was necessary.
These advisory groups, referred to as FACAs in the initial correspondence, provide the CDC with external expertise on critical topics such as HIV prevention and strategies to address emerging infectious threats like avian flu. The first email warned that without a sufficient justification, these committees were slated for termination.
Uncertainty remains about whether the follow-up email signals a pause in HHS’s plans to disband the committees immediately or if their dissolution will proceed regardless of CDC input. A CDC spokesperson refrained from commenting, while an HHS representative told Politico that the department is acting in line with President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at reducing federal bureaucracy.
The original email, as reported by Politico, tied the proposed cuts to Trump’s directive titled “Commencing the Reduction of the Federal Bureaucracy.” It instructed the CDC to demonstrate the committees’ necessity to agency operations and public welfare, explain why their roles couldn’t be fulfilled through alternative methods, and verify approval from the agency head for their establishment or continuation.
Politico noted that nine specific CDC committees were identified as potentially affected, including the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee, the CDC/HRSA Advisory Committee on HIV, Viral Hepatitis and STD Prevention and Treatment, and the Board of Scientific Counselors for the National Center for Health Statistics, among others.

It looks like we’re being set up for another summer of riots courtesy of the Democratic party. Scrolling down the homepage of The Hill newspaper, the further you go, the more alarming it gets. Sample headlines include:

You will have noticed the common thread: everyone’s favorite Bronx Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York). Apparently, the New Yorker has Presidential ambitions, having qualified for the post by turning age 35 last fall.
Although I’m too young to recall the riots of ’68, I lived through the George Floyd summer of 2o20 as a resident of the Twin Cities. Personally, I’m not looking for another sequel to complete the trilogy.

On one level, what all this amounts to is an attempted takeover of the Executive Branch by the Judicial Branch — a judicial coup d’état. These judges are usurping President Trump’s valid exercise of his Executive Branch powers through sheer judicial fiat — a raw assertion of power by one branch of the federal government against another.
But on another, deeper level, this is an attempt by the judiciary to prevent the duly elected president from reclaiming control of the Executive Branch from the federal bureaucracy — the deep state, which has long functioned as an unelected and unaccountable fourth branch of the government. This unconstitutional fourth branch has always been controlled by Democrats and leftist ideologues who, under the guise of being nonpartisan experts neutrally administering the functions of government, have effectively supplanted the political branches. Unfortunately, to large extent the political branches have acquiesced in the usurpation of their authority.
Trump, with a strong mandate from the American electorate, has resolved to wrest control of the government from the deep state. The deep state in turn has been forced to fall back on its last line of defense: the courts.
What we’re seeing, in other words, is the return of the political (in the classical sense) to American governance. The political never really went away, of course. The idea of a neutral, nonpartisan class of experts and bureaucrats was always a fiction, a thinly-veiled scheme for implementing the Democrats’ agenda and neutralizing the effect of elections on actual governance. The voters could elect whomever they liked, but it would not much change what the bureaucracy did. This scheme has been the greatest scandal of modern American government, and the crisis unfolding now is a direct result of Trump’s efforts to dismantle it.
