World Athletics to Require Gene Tests for Female Runners

World Athletics will begin chromosome testing of female track and field athletes using cheek swabs or blood samples to preserve "the integrity of competition," the governing body announced Tuesday, NBC News reported.

World Athletics President Sebastian Coe said that on Tuesday, the organization will implement new genetic testing for female athletes, including cheek swabs and dry blood-spot tests to detect the presence of a "Y" chromosome. The measure is designed to maintain fairness in the women's category of track and field events.

The decision was announced following a two-day World Athletics Council meeting in Nanjing, China.

"It's important to do it because it maintains everything that we've been talking about, and particularly recently, about not just talking about the integrity of female women's sport, but actually guaranteeing it," Coe said. "We feel this is a really important way of providing confidence and maintaining that absolute focus on the integrity of competition."

The new rule would require athletes to undergo the chromosome test only once in their careers. Coe said the policy revives a form of chromosome testing abandoned in the 1990s and aims to confirm eligibility for the female competition category.

It remains uncertain whether the tests will be implemented before the world championships in September. According to Coe, a testing provider will be selected, and final regulations will be drafted in the coming weeks.

Coe, a two-time Olympic gold medalist who recently failed in his bid to become president of the International Olympic Committee, has been outspoken about "protecting the female category" in sports.

He has urged the IOC to take a central role in developing rules for transgender athletes rather than allowing individual sports to set their guidelines.

In 2023, World Athletics banned transgender athletes who had transitioned from male to female and experienced male puberty from competing in the female category. Earlier this year, the organization proposed stricter eligibility criteria for athletes assigned female at birth who have naturally high testosterone levels, also known as DSD (differences in sex development) athletes.

Those recommendations followed an executive order signed by President Donald Trump barring transgender athletes from competing in girls' sports in the United States. The order also urged the International Olympic Committee to adopt similar policies ahead of the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.

Asked if the organization was confident its new policy would survive legal scrutiny, Coe responded that World Athletics had already withstood multiple court challenges.

"I would never have set off down this path in 2016-2017 to protect the female category in sport" without being "prepared to take the challenge head-on," he said. "We've been to the Court of Arbitration on our DSD regulations. They have been upheld, and they have again been upheld after appeal. So we will doggedly protect the female category, and we'll do whatever is necessary to do it."

Trump Pauses Federal Funds for Planned Parenthood

https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/trump-administration-planned-parenthood-funding/2025/03/25/id/1204334/

The Trump administration is reportedly pausing millions in federal funding for Planned Parenthood, essentially defunding the abortion giant, while it reviews whether any of the money was spent on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Planned Parenthood and its affiliates were set to receive approximately $120 million this year, with the money earmarked for pregnancy testing, evaluation, and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and infertility counseling, according to The Wall Street Journal, which reported on the move Tuesday.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order shortly after taking office in January eliminating federal DEI efforts, and a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) told Reuters that "HHS is reviewing grantees to ensure compliance with President Trump's executive orders."

The money is reportedly distributed by HHS' Title X program, with the $120 million being about half of the funding available to the program for this year. Under the program, roughly four million people access services through a network of around 4,000 clinics.

"The Trump-Vance-Musk administration wants to shut down Planned Parenthood health centers by any means necessary, and they'll end people's access to birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and more to do it," Planned Parenthood Federation of America President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson told the Journal.

Democrats in Congress also slammed the administration's move to halt the funding.

"Fundamentally, we are talking about the Trump administration cutting off very basic and lifesaving health care," Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., said, according to The Washington Times. "Title X has long had bipartisan support, and I hope every one of my colleagues who support basic, cost-saving family planning services will speak out against this illegal hijacking of lifesaving funding women across America are counting on for health care."

Trump said Tuesday that he may direct the Justice Department to bring criminal charges against Planned Parenthood officials for allegedly trafficking in aborted fetal tissue.

"I think you are talking about a subject that's been a heated subject, and we'll look into it," Trump told reporters when asked about probing the fetal harvesting allegations. "We'll look into everything, but that's certainly a subject that's been debated for a long time, and we will look into it."

In 2015, an anti-abortion activist group released undercover videos that showed Planned Parenthood officials discussing how to abort a fetus to best preserve its organs for biomedical research, as well as negotiating the sale of aborted fetal tissue.

In one case, a Planned Parenthood representative joked about wanting a Lamborghini with the undercover anti-abortion activists, who were posing as researchers.

After the videos were released, Planned Parenthood's then-President Cecile Richards reportedly sent an 11-page letter to members of Congress, admitting that affiliates had accepted payments of up to $60 per "tissue specimen" obtained through abortion, but claimed they were cost reimbursements, which are permitted under federal law.

In her letter, Richards also admitted that "adjustments that facilitate fetal tissue donations rarely occur at a few of our clinics that offer women this service."

Troops Begin New Phase at Southern Border: Surveillance

https://www.newsmax.com/us/surveillance-pentagon-u-s-troops/2025/03/25/id/1204330/

Tuesday, 25 March 2025 06:12 PM EDT

U.S. military service members are set to begin a new phase of immigration enforcement at the southern border in support of President Donald Trump's crackdown on illegal crossings: surveillance.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth last week gave an order allowing troops assigned to Joint Task Force Southern Border (JTF-SB) to begin conducting patrols, both on foot and aboard Stryker armored vehicles.

"Conducting patrols, either on foot or mounted, creates a more proactive and adaptable posture compared to static posts," Army Maj. Jennifer L. Staton, a Defense Department spokesperson, said in the release. "The dynamic approach of patrolling allows service members to cover a larger area of the border, affording them dynamic observation across multiple angles and distances."

To that end, the plans call for troops to station the Strykers near the border and use night vision and powerful equipment to surveil open spaces, Politico reported. Hegseth's order expands the duties of soldiers from just logistics and back-end work, according to the report.

Troops are not permitted to assist local or federal law enforcement in detaining illegals but instead "will relay all observations of illegal crossings directly to [U.S. Customs and Border Protection] for response and enforcement," Staton said. Troops will also transport federal border agents to areas they need to get to.

"The authority to transport [Customs and Border Protection] personnel during patrols means law enforcement personnel will be on hand or nearby to conduct any necessary law enforcement activity," Gen. Gregory Guillot, commander of the U.S. Northern Command, said Tuesday in a statement, according to Politico.

Also, troops patrolling the border will be armed and are authorized to defend themselves if attacked.

The Pentagon said roughly 6,600 active-duty personnel, including 1,600 Marines, are operating as part of JTF-SB.

Watchdog Group Sues Trump Officials Over Signal Chat

https://www.newsmax.com/politics/signal-chat-war/2025/03/26/id/1204380/

Wednesday, 26 March 2025 08:20 AM EDT

A government watchdog group known for targeting Republican interests has sued the Trump administration for allegedly discussing war plans on an open-source instant-messaging app.

American Oversight, which calls itself nonpartisan but has aimed all of its investigations and litigations at the GOP, filed suit in a D.C. federal court against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Axios reported.

The lawsuit alleges the chat on the unclassified commercial app that mistakenly included The Atlantic's Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg violated federal records laws.

On its website, American Oversight said it is seeking to "recover unlawfully deleted messages and prevent further destruction."

"The Federal Records Act requires federal officials to preserve communications related to official government business," the organization said. "Generally, agencies ensure retention of messages sent on apps like Signal by setting policies requiring officials and personnel to forward them to official systems for proper archival or take other steps to preserve their content."

The group's interim executive director Chioma Chukwu said: "This reported disclosure of sensitive military information in a Signal group chat that included a journalist is a five-alarm fire for government accountability and potentially a crime. War planning doesn't belong in emoji-laden disappearing group chats. It belongs in secure facilities designed to safeguard national interests — something any responsible government official should have known."

Goldberg on Monday revealed he was accidentally included in a group chat with top White House officials who were discussing plans for military action against the Houthis in Yemen.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, National Security Adviser Waltz and White House press secretary Karolina Leavitt then all attacked Goldberg's integrity as a journalist. Hegseth and Leavitt insisted war plans were not discussed during the chat.

Gabbard and Ratcliffe both testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee that no classified information was shared during the chat. They agreed to an audit of the conversation.

President Donald Trump told Newsmax's Greg Kelly he is "very comfortable" with the explanation and resolution of how Goldberg ended up on the group thread with members of his national security team.
