Poland suspends right to asylum at Belarus border

MAR 27, 2025 |

(POLAND TOOK IN A LOT OF ASYLUM SEEKERS FROM BELARUS, SO THE UN, IS TRYING TO MAKE THEM KEEP THE ASYLUM SEEKERS.)

Poland’s government has issued an order suspending the right to claim asylum by people who cross the border from Belarus, making immediate use of a new law that was signed by the president yesterday.

That legislation has been criticised by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Poland’s own commissioner for human rights as a violation of European and international law, which requires countries to accept asylum claims.

A regulation published in the official Journal of Laws on Wednesday night, and entering into force immediately, suspended the right to submit claims for international protection on the entire border with Belarus for a period of 60 days.

That is the maximum length of time allowed under the new law. If the government wishes to extend the ban for longer, it must seek the approval of parliament. However, it is very likely to be able to do so given that MPs voted overwhelmingly in favour of the new law.

“The regulation gives border guard officers a key tool to combat illegal migration, which is an element of hybrid aggression against Poland, and to combat international crime,” said interior minister Tomasz Siemoniak. “We are working to ensure the security of our border.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s office declared that the measures will “prevent the destabilisation of the internal situation on the territory of Poland”.

It noted that “for several years, Belarus has been conducting an organised operation aimed at disrupting public order in our country, but also in other EU countries”, by encouraging and assisting migrants and asylum seekers – mainly from the Middle East, Asia and Africa – to cross the border.

“In March 2025, there was a sharp increase in the number of attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border,” added the prime minister’s office. “In the coming months, a further significant increase is likely. There is also still aggressive behaviour by foreigners, who pose a risk to the lives and health of Polish officers.”

Last year, in response to a record number of asylum claims, Tusk announced a tough new migration strategy, including allowing the temporary and partial suspension of the right to claim asylum.

He argued this was necessary because existing asylum rules were not designed to accommodate the deliberate instrumentalisation ofmigration by hostile states, with many of those crossing the border and claiming asylum not being genuine refugees.

The government also believes that by banning asylum claims – along with other tough measures it has introduced at the border –it can discourage people from making use of the services of the people smugglers who offer to get them into the European Union.

However, human rights groups have declared that the measures would violate not only international law but Poland’s own constitution. They also say they will cause real harm tovulnerableasylum seekers, who will face being pushed back over the border into Belarus.

Well over 100 people are believed to have died around the borders between Belarus and EU member states since the beginning of the crisis in 2021.

Poland’s government notes that the law makes exceptions for vulnerable people. Even when the asylum suspension is in place,Poland must still accept claims from minors, pregnant women, people who require special healthcareand those deemed at “real risk of harm” if returned over the border.

A last-minute amendment added to the bill by parliament also allows an entire group that includes minors – such as a family – to submit an asylum claim. In the original draft, only the minors would have been allowed to do.

Prime Minister Carney Declares Canada’s “Relationship with America is Over”

March 28, 2025 | Sundance

Canada Prime Minister Mark Carney delivers a speech to the nation notifying the Canadian people thatthe era of an economic and military collaborative relationship between the United States and Canada is over.

As the majority of Canadians cheer, the Prime Minister said that Canada as a free independent and sovereign nationwill now embrace its connections to the United Kingdon and European Unionand seek toreplace their national dependency on the United States by severing tiesin North America and entering a new era of close relations with Great Britain and Europe.

When questioned if Canada would join the European Union, a seemingly natural fit for the ideologically aligned country, Prime Minister Carney said, “nothing is off the table.” In a rather remarkable end to the confrontation, theCarney says the economic and military ties between the USA and Canada are officially declared severed. WATCH:

“We as Canadians, have agency”… What does that even mean?

President Trump asked Prime Minister Trudeau and theCanadian government to close the border to narcotraffickersand shutdown the pipeline of Chinese fentanyl. The == Canadian govt chose not to and Prime Minister Mark Carney continues the refusal.

The entire Canadian border enforcement system, agents, support personnel, the entire operation for 5,000-mile border consists of 300 people. Not exactly a strong commitment to border security.

President Trump asked the Canadian governmentto remove trade tariffs, remove non-tariff trade barriers, and initiate reciprocal trade. The Canadian govt chose not to.

President Trump asked the Canadian govt tostop being a pass-through for Chinese goodsthat violates the USMCA. The Canadian govt chose not to.

President Trump asked the Canadian govt toopen access to U.S. banks and financial services. The Canadian govt said no.

President Trump asked the Canadian govt tolive up to the NATO commitment of 2.5%GDP spending on military defense. The Canadian govt said no,you will defend us free of charge and just accept it.

Now, members of the Canadian government are saying they want to “inflict the maximum amount of pain on Americans possible.”

Canada destroyed most of their heavy industry and chases the climate change hoax in all economic policies.Canada is destroying itself, no help from the UK or EU is needed.

Canada imported Steel and Aluminum from China, then shipped it into the USA, undercutting U.S. industry and trying to weaken U.S. heavy industry to match their own level of dependence. Eventually, President Trump said ENOUGH!

The Backlash is going to be enormous, but once Canada understands how Vital the U.S. to their very existence in areas they’ve never considered, they will shit their pants. US military soldiers and jets protect the entire country, they are protected by NORAD and that is the U.S.How are they going to protect themselves? They can always call England and France, I hear they are freed up from the peacekeeper bullshit.

US crew missing as NATO struggles to recover vehicle from border swamp

A giant mobile crane sank in a bog during military exercises near Belarus

The Lithuanian military has called for specialized equipment to lift a sunken US military vehicle, whose four crew members have been classified as missing, following a training incident in a swamp near the country’s border with Belarus on Tuesday.

The M88 Hercules armored vehicle, designed for recovering other military assets and weighing over 60 tons, was located on Wednesday in a bog near Pabrade, where the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division was participating in a joint NATO exercise, according to US Army Europe and Africa command.

Recovery efforts have proven unsuccessful. Rescuers have yet to access the submerged vehicle due to the challenging terrain. The Lithuanian Defense Ministry announced on Friday morning that the country’s most powerful dredger is en route to the site.

”We just need to stop the flow of water from the lake into the swamp so that the mud can be pumped out of the swamp,” Lieutenant Colonel Ausrius Buikus, who is leading the rescue operation, told media on Thursday afternoon.

On Wednesday, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte extended condolences to the families of the missing US soldiers, who are still declared ‘missing’. His office later issued an apology for “confusion” arising from his implication the crew was deceased.

The US has approximately 1,000 troops in Lithuania. Washington has increased exercises in the Baltic states amid rising tensions with Russia, particularly since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, touting the drills as a NATO confidence-building measure.

(I wonder if the soldiers just dropped it and walked away. Did the NATO get help signals?)

Kiev again violated US-backed energy ceasefire – Moscow(VIDEO)

American-designed HIMARS artillery was used in one of the three latest attacks on infrastructure, according to the Defense Ministry

The Ukrainian military has attacked Russia’s energy infrastructure in three separate regions, again violating a US-mediated moratorium on such strikes, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has claimed.

The incidents, recorded over the past 24 hours, took place in Belgorod, Kursk and Saratov Regions of Russia, the Friday statement said. On Thursday, Ukrainian artillery struck an element of the Russian power grid in Belgorod Region, disrupting the power supply in Shchebekino near the international border, the report said.

A separate incident involved HIMARS artillery strikes on the Sudzha gas metering station in Kursk Region, where “the energy site was de facto destroyed.” The ministry had previously accused Kiev of damaging the facility with planted explosive charges as its forces were retreating from the area.

The ministry concluded that “all previous public statements of the Kiev regime about its purported intention to suspend attacks against Russian civilian energy infrastructure are just a smokescreen.” It believes that Ukraine wants to recover its military compatibility with the help of European backers while the US pushes for a complete truce with Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered that attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure stop on March 18, following a phone call with his US counterpart Donald Trump. The Kremlin says it intends to maintain the 30-day partial ceasefire as a gesture of goodwill to Washington, even if Kiev fails to honor it. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry has warned that Moscow reserves the right to withdraw from the agreement.

Russia will ‘finish off’ Kiev’s forces – Putin

The Ukrainian people must realize they were duped by the Western dream of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia, the president has said

President Vladimir Putin has declared thatRussian forces are gaining momentum across the entire line of contact and could soon “finish off” Ukraine’s military, while commenting on attempts by Kiev’s European backers to derail a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.

The Russian president made the remarks on Thursday during a meeting with the crew of the Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine, which is equipped with Zircon hypersonic missiles. Putin reiterated thatMoscow has always sought to resolve the conflict through diplomatic meansbut was met with deception and obstruction from the West – first with the failed Minsk Agreements and then during the 2022 Istanbul peace talks.

Their European handlers… convinced the Ukrainian leadership that they had to continue armed resistance, essentially to the last Ukrainian, with the goal of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia,” he said.

Putin accused Western leaders –specifically former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson – of underestimating Russia’s resolve, and warned that the country’s military capabilities should not be taken lightly.

“He must have forgotten that there are people like you – and weapons like your submarine,”Putin told the naval crew. “Apparently, he forgot, or maybe they simply do not understand what the Russian people are made of.”

The Russian president said the conflict is reaching a turning point and expressed confidence in the outcome, noting that “across the entire line of combat engagement, our troops hold the strategic initiative.”

Not long ago I said, ‘We’ll squeeze them.’ Now there’s reason to believe we’ll finish them off. Then, I think a moment of realization must come to the Ukrainian people themselves.

Despite his hardline tone, Putin reiterated that Russia remains open to peace negotiations – as long as the core causes of the conflict are addressed.

“We are in favor of resolving these issues by peaceful means…But the root causes must be eliminated. We must ensure Russia’s security for the long historical perspective,” he said.

Russia has repeatedly stated that it is open to peace talks, but insists that a true settlement of the conflict requires a permanent and legally-binding solution. Moscow opposes any NATO presence on Ukrainian soil and has demanded that Kiev demilitarize, denazify, adhere to a position of neutrality, and recognize the territorial “realities on the ground.”

On March 18, the Russian military was ordered to refrain from attacking Ukrainian energy infrastructure under a deal agreed upon by President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump.

However, the Russian Ministry of Defense has since reported multiple Ukrainian violations, which it described asattempts to undermine Trump’s mediation efforts.

US has been plotting to annex Greenland since the 1860s – Putin

The tensions around the island should not be dismissed as the “extravagant talk”of the US administration, according to Russia’s president

Washington has long harbored plans to get its hands on Greenland, and the ongoing tensions around the world’s largest island should be taken seriously, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned.

Speaking at the International Arctic Forum in Murmansk on Thursday, Putin touched upon the ongoing tensions around Greenland, a Danish semi-autonomous territory, and US President Donald Trump’s repeated promises to annex it.

Trump invoked the topic of Greenland once again on Wednesday, claiming that US ownership of the island is needed to “properly defend a large section of this Earth” and would be universally beneficial– including for Denmark.

“We have to have the land because it’s not possible to properly defend a large section of this Earth – not just the US – without it. So we have to have it, and I think we will have it,” he said.

Trump’s statements should be taken seriously, Putin warned, pointing out that the US has been harboring plans to annex Greenland for over a century and a half already.

“Everyone knows about the US plans to annex Greenland. You know, this may surprise someone only at first glance. And it is a deep mistake to believe that this is some kind of extravagant talk of the new American administration,” Putin warned.

American plans to seize Greenland date back to 1860, but at the time theydid not get Congressional support, the Russian president pointed out.

“Let me remind you that by 1868, the Alaska purchase was being ridiculed in American newspapers. It was called madness, an ‘ice box,’ and ‘the polar bear garden’of Andrew Johnson, then-US president. And his Greenland proposals failed,” Putin said.

The US, Germany, and Denmark also came close to signing a land-swap deal in 1910, which would have resulted in Greenland beingceded to America, Putin noted. However, the agreement ultimately fell through.

From the early 19th century until the 1950s, Greenlandwas under the full control of Denmark. During World War Two, it was occupied by the US after the Scandinavian country itself was captured by Nazi Germany. Currently, the island hosts an American military base and the infrastructure for an early warning system for ballistic missiles.

In recent decades, the island has grown increasingly autonomous; it was granted home rule in 1979, ultimately receiving the right in 2009 to declare independence if a referendum passes.

Italy pours cold water on pro-Ukraine ‘coalition of the willing’

European countries must work with Washington to achieve peace between Moscow and Kiev, Giorgia Meloni has said

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has ruled out the participation of her country’s troops in a military force that the UK and France want to be deployed to Ukraine in the event that a peace deal with Russia is reached.

In early March, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron said that their nations were ready to lead a “coalition of the willing” pro-Ukrainian European countries to support Kiev with troops and aircraft.

The announcement followed the launch of bilateral talks between Moscow and Washington to settle the ongoing conflict, to which the EU and UK were not invited.

After a summit of Kiev’s backers in Paris on Thursday, which wasattended by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, Meloni reiterated that“no national participationin a possible military force on the ground is planned” by the authorities in Rome.

According to a statement published by the Italian prime minister’s office, she also “stressed the importance of continuing to work with the USto stop the conflict and achieve peace” between Moscow and Kiev. She “hoped for the involvement of an American delegation at the next coordination meeting” of Ukraine’s European allies, the statement read.

In her interview with the Financial Times on Friday, Meloni stressed thatit is “childish” to make Italy choose between the US and the EU.

Instead of deploying what London and Paris now call a “reassurance force” to aid Kiev, sheproposed extending NATO’s mutual defense clause to Ukrainewithout actually making the country a member of the US-led bloc. Doing so would be “easier and more effective than the other ideas that are on the table,” she insisted.(she misses the point of no NATO)

Croatian President Zoran Milanovic also said on Thursday that his country “will not be involved in Ukraine in any form.”Zagreb will not join the peacekeeping force because “the necessary conditions are simply not met– there is no peace agreement, nor the consent of the other side, which in this case is Russia,” he explained.

Russia has categorically ruled out the possibility of NATO-aligned European troops deploying to the conflict zone. It accused France and Britain of hatching plans for “military intervention in Ukraine,” which could lead to a direct military clash between Russia and the bloc. Moscow also suggested that London and Paris are deliberately escalating tensions in order to undermine efforts by the US and Russia to resolve the conflict.

Trump has ‘gone too far’ – Danish defense minister

The US president’s Greenland aspirations are “escalating tensions,” Troels Lund Poulsen has said

US President Donald Trump’s repeated promises to annex Greenland are not appropriate for a close ally and overall are “escalating tensions,” Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen has said.

“I think we’ll go as far as we have to go. We need Greenland, and the world needs us to have Greenland, including Denmark,” Trump told reporters on Wednesday.

“We have to have the land because it’s not possible to properly defend a large section of this Earth – not just the US – without it. So we have to have it, and I think we will have it,” he stated.

Speaking to Danish state broadcaster DR on Thursday, Poulsen condemned Trump’s recent remarks as escalatory and disrespectful.Trump’s rhetoric was becoming increasingly aggressive and amounted to a “hidden threat” against Denmarkand its semi-autonomous territory.

“I think they are going too far – both in interfering in Greenland’s internal affairs and in showing a lack of respect for its people’s right to decide their future,” Lund stated, responding to Trump’s latest remarks on the island.

“These very powerful statements about a close ally do not suit the US president,”he added.

Over the past few months, Trump repeatedly invoked the topic of Greenland, insisting that Washington needed to take control of the island to enhance its “national security.”

The ramped-up rhetoric comes against the backdrop of a visit of a high-profile US delegation to the island led by Usha Vance, wife of US Vice President JD Vance, White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright. JD Vance is expected to join his wife on Friday.

The visit has been criticized by both Danish and Greenlandic authorities, with the semi-autonomous territory’s acting head of government,Mute Egede, who branded it a “provocation” and refused to meet the US delegation. Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has also condemned the trip, accusing the US of exerting “unacceptable pressure.”

“I have to say that it is unacceptable pressure being placed on Greenland and Denmark in this situation. And it is pressure that we will resist,”she told DR and TV2 broadcasters.

While the former Danish colony of some 57,000 has a strong pro-independence movement, a poll commissioned by the Sermitsiaq daily in late January suggested that 85% of Greenlanders opposed any incorporation into the US, while only 6% backed it.

(They made up those numbers)

Baltic NATO state voices alarm over UK troop reduction – Times

The move raises questions whether Britain can contribute to a peacekeeping force in Ukraine should a ceasefire be agreed, according to the outlet

Estonian officials are concerned about their national security due to a significant reduction in British troops and tanks deployed as part of NATO’s contingent in the Baltic nation, The Times reported on Wednesday. The drawdown also raises questions about Britain’s ability to send “peacekeepers” to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire, according to the outlet.

Riho Terras, former commander of the Estonian Defense Forces and now MEP, told Times Radio that theUK appears unable to provide the brigade-sized force, typically around 3,000 to 5,000 troops, it had pledged.

“The UK has difficulties to put together one brigade to participate in operations. I see it in Estonia every day,” Terras said.

He warned that the British military’s financial struggles were becoming visible on the ground, citing theUK’s likely inability to fully participate in Exercise Hedgehog – one of NATO’s largest training operations in the region– this coming May.

“The UK is not coming with the full power to the exercises becausethey have problems with the financing,” Terras said, adding “Of course it concerns me that we are not taking seriously our defence.”

According to the Times, the UK has reduced its troop presence in Estonia to around 1,000 – down from 1,650 in April 2022 – and now has fewer than ten Challenger tanks in the country. The figures mark a return to pre-Ukraine conflict levels, despite earlier British pledges to expand their footprint when hostilities began, the outlet noted.

Meanwhile, the UK and France are currently trying to create a “coalition of the willing” – countries ready to deploy troops to Ukraine after the ceasefire. The initiative envisions the potential deployment of a 30,000-strong “reassurance” force to secure key cities, ports, and infrastructure, as well as air-policing missions.

However, The Timesquestioned how the UK would be able to contribute to such a force if it cannot afford to keep even a small number of troops in Estonia.

While NATO positions itself as a defense bloc, Russia sees its eastward expansion as a threat. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the bloc’s enlargement closer to its borders since the 1990s, including promises of eventual membership for Ukraine, contributed to the escalation of the conflict in 2022.

White House cuts off funding for White Helmets – CNN

The NGO was allegedly involved in staging multiple false flag chemical weapons attacks during the Syrian civil war

The administration of US President Donald Trump has cut off most of the funding Washington had been providing to the controversial ‘White Helmets’ volunteer organization in Syria, CNN reported on Thursday, citing internal documents and the organization.

The Syrian Civil Defense, popularly known as the White Helmets, was created in 2014 at the height of the country’s civil war, and billed itself as a volunteer rescue force dedicated to helping civilians injured by the government of former President Bashar Assad. It received funding from Western governments.

During the protracted struggle, the White Helmets were praised in the Western media as heroes. Extensive evidence, however, suggests that at least some of its media content was staged. Onseveral occasions, members of the group were filmed participating in apparent executions by jihadists.

Its US Agency for International Development (USAID) funding has been terminated as part of the Trump administration’s broader curtailing of foreign aid contracts. The spending cuts affect programs related to firefighting, search and rescue, andso-called “community resilience”work, according to the outlet. Despite ongoing scrutiny of the group’s activities and affiliations, a smaller contract from theUS State Department to fund what is described as “accountability work” reportedly remains in place.

In a letter to Congress, a USAID official said 5,341 awards had been terminated as of March 21, including a nearly $30 million White Helmets contract that began in February 2023, CNN said. Some of the funds have already been spent. A separate $1.4 million State Department contract reportedly remains active.

Upon taking office, Trump suspended most US foreign aid for a three-month review to assess its alignment with his “America First” agenda, freezing tens of billions in USAID-approved grants.

Farouq Habib, the deputy general manager of the organization, told CNN that theWhite Helmets have had a “great partnership” with USAID– the NGO’s major backer for nearly a decade. According to him, US support during Syria’s transition following Assad’s ouster is very important “in the absence of a functional, strong government.”

The White Helmets, co-founded by the late British mercenary and presumed former intelligence officer James Le Mesurier, rose to international notoriety amid the years-long conflict in Syria.

During the war, the group operated exclusively in areas controlled by assorted jihadist groups opposing Assad’s government. The White Helmets have allegedlybeen involved in multiple false flag ‘chemical incidents’, which it blamed on government troops. These were used by Western nations to justify strikes against the Syrian military and its allies.(Trump bombed Syria on their lies, and as I remember it was Russians guarding the warehouses?.)

Internal White House document details layoff plans across U.S. agencies 1/2

Emily Davies and Jeff SteinWashington Post

Federal officials are preparing for agencies to cut between 8 and 50 percent of their employees in the first phase of a Trump administration push to shrink the government, according to an internal White House document obtained by The Washington Post. The document contains closely held draft plans for reshaping the 2.3-million-person bureaucracy.

The details are compiled from plans that President Donald Trump ordered agencies to submit, according to two people familiar with the document, who spoke on the condition of anonymitybecause they were not authorized to talk about it. The numbers, which have not been released to the public, show what could be next for the efforts that Trump says will make government more accountable, but have also upended agency functions and triggered restraining orders from the courts.

The document covers 22 agencies and doesn’t have information in some categories. Several people familiar with the document stressedthat planning remains fluidand that the numbers do not necessarily reflect what agencies will ultimately cut.

But it indicates that broad staff cuts arelikely to have a significant impact on the scope of the government’s work. For example, the document lists the Department of Housing and Urban Development as cutting half of its roughly 8,300-person staff, while the Interior Department would shed nearly 1 in 4 of the workers it had when Trump took office, and the IRS would cut nearly 1 in 3.

A White House official said the document wasn’t up to date.

“It’s no secret the Trump Administration is dedicated to downsizing the federal bureaucracy and cutting waste, fraud, and abuse. This document is a pre-deliberative draft and does not accurately reflect final reduction in force plans,” White House principal deputy press secretary Harrison Fields said in an email. “When President Trump’s Cabinet Secretaries are ready to announce reduction in force plans, they will make those announcements to their respective workforces at the appropriate time.”

Trump and his billionaire adviser, Elon Musk, have repeatedly said that they are working to achieve a smaller government with less fraud, waste and corruption, but they have provided little clarity about how services might be affected as a result.Trump has said agencies should pare down to their minimum essential functions as required by law, with some exceptions such as the U.S. Postal Service and White House staff.

The document obtained by The Post was last updated Tuesday. Trump instructed the Office of Management and Budget in a Feb. 11 executive order to work with U.S. DOGE Service and Musk to shrink the workforce. Agency heads’ blueprints for meeting this goal were due to the budget office and the government’s human resources arm, the Office of Personnel Management, earlier this month. Plans for reorganization and further staff reductions are due by mid-April.

The document shows reductions of 8 percent at the Justice Department, 28 percent at the National Science Foundation, 30 percent at the Commerce Department and 43 percent at the Small BusinessAdministration, among others.

The National Science Foundation declined to comment on the cuts.A Justice Department spokesperson said officials were “working relentlessly” to make the department efficient and keep the country safe.

The numbers in the document may reflect only a partial estimate of the cuts that the administration will ultimately pursue. The White House has not yet released its official budget, a proposal that traditionally lays out the amount of agency spending the president wants to see in the coming fiscal year. Supplemental budget documents often include personnel requests.

Who’s doing this leaking? The Post couldn’t criticize that much. Was it a dummy draft?

Spending on the civil service accounts for a small fraction of the national budget, but workforce reductions could pave the way for cuts to the costlier government programs they help to administer. Experts said that process is more likely to survive legal challenges than the administration’s error-riddled mass firings earlier this year of probationary employees.

“The RIF process is the one that is established in law and regulation about how to reduce workforces,” said Robert Shea, a Republican who served in senior political roles at the White House budget office. Shea predicted attempted cuts would draw additional litigation, but added:“Because this is a well-established path, it’s more likely to succeed than some of these other avenues.”

The numbers in the document appear to include employees who already took a deferred resignation offer, were fired because of their probationary status or were planning to leave their jobs regardless of White House directives. It did not appear that the totals factored in court rulings that found the probationary firings unlawful and required agencies to reinstate the affected workers, which the Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to reverse.

The document included some “estimated cost savings” for each agency’s planned reductions, which amount to a small fraction of the $1.8 trillion deficit that DOGE, which stands for Department of Government Efficiency, is seeking to address. The document said firings would save the Education Department $6.1 billion, the Justice Department $1.9 billion after slashing staff by 8 percent, and HUD more than $1.2 million through fiscal 2026 and $800 million annually after three years.

The documentprojects a 10 percent cut at the Environmental Protection Agency, where the downsizing will include firing up to 1,115 people from the Office of Research and Development, which runs labs and research centers across the country. But it didn’t estimate how much money that would save. The potential cuts to this EPA division have been previously reported.

An EPA spokesperson said, “This does not track with any current EPA plans.

The document also projects aroughly 30 percent personnel cut at the Treasury Department. The Trump administration has moved aggressively to downsize the tax agency, which senior officials now believe will contribute to a decrease in tax receipts of 10 percent or more. In a statement, a Treasury spokeswoman said: “The Treasury Department is considering a number of measures to increase efficiency, including a rollback of wasteful Biden-era hiring surges, and consolidation of critical support functions. … No final decisions have yet been made.”

At most agencies, the document doesn’t get into specific details about which divisions would be most affected or which government services were on the chopping block. But the scope and impact of the firings have begun to surface in court documents and through reports from employees.

At the Social Security Administration, field office managers have resorted to answering phonesin place of receptionists because so many employees have been pushed out, and the website overloaded four times this month, blocking millions of retirees and disabled Americans from logging in to their online accounts.Inside national parks, run by federal workers, lines have doubled and reservations were canceled after, in one instance, firings dismissed an entire team that managed reservations for renting historic farmhouses. (I can’t believe the National Parks Service get many calls.)

Cuts have already been announced at some agencies, including the Education Department, which said this month that it would be reducing its staff by half. The document did not list those reductions among its totals. It also did not specify staff reduction goals for certain agencies, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs.

DOJ asks Supreme Court to intervene in deportation flights case

03/28/25 10:56 AM ET

Court Battles

The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Fridayto allow it to invoke the Alien Enemies Act to carry out swift deportations.

The emergency application marks the first time that the high court has been askedto get involved in the high-profile case after U.S. District Judge James Boasberg issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) blocking deportation flights under the rarely invoked statute.

“This case presentsfundamental questions about who decides how to conduct sensitive national-security-related operations in this country—the President, through Article II, or the Judiciary, through TROs,” acting Solicitor General Sarah Harris wrote in the application.

“The Constitution supplies a clear answer: the President. The republic cannot afford a different choice,”==

she continued.

The 1798 Alien Enemies Act enables migrants to be summarily deported amid a declared war or an “invasion” by a foreign nation. The law has been leveraged just three previous times, all during wars, but Trump contends he can use it because the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua is effectively invading the United States.

After the president issued a proclamation invoking the law, the administration quickly deported hundreds of Venezuelan migrants to a notorious El Salvador prison. Some of the deportees have contested being connected to a gang.

Boasberg, anappointee of former President Obama, has been at the center of Trump’s ire ever since he blocked the president’s plan at a rare weekend court hearing right after Trump signed the order. Trump has called for the judge’s impeachment and repeatedly publicly criticized him in the days since. (Someone spread a lie that Bush appointed him)

The administration’s Supreme Court application comes after the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in a 2-1 decision Wednesday declined to lift Boasberg’s rulings.

“Here, thedistrict court’s orders have rebuffed the President’s judgments as to how to protect the Nation against foreign terrorist organizationsand risk debilitating effects for delicate foreign negotiations,” the application reads.

“More broadly, rule-by-TRO has become so commonplace among district courts that the Executive Branch’s basic functions are in peril,” she continued.

By default, the emergency application goes to Chief Justice John Roberts, who handles emergency appeals arising from the nation’s capital. He can act on the request alone or refer it to the full court for a vote. (He better act!)

It is one of four pending series of lawsuits the Trump administration has brought to the Supreme Court’s emergency docket.

The court is also actively mulling whether to grant requests to narrow rulings blocking Trump’s birthright citizenship restrictions nationwide, fire more than 16,000 federal probationary employees and freeze $65 million worth of teacher development grants.

Opinion | Hillary Clinton: This Is Just Dumb - The New York Times1/2March 28, 2025

Hillary Clinton: This Is Just Dumb

Mrs. Clinton is a former secretary of state and United States senator and was the Democratic nominee for president in 2016.

Sign up for Your Places: Global Update. All the latest news for any part of the world you select.

It’s not the hypocrisy that bothers me; it’s the stupidity. We’re all shocked — shocked! — that President Trump and his team don’t actually care about protecting classified information or federal record retention laws. But we knew that already. What’s much worse is that top Trump administration officials put our troops in jeopardy by sharing military plans on a commercial messaging app and unwittingly invited a journalist into the chat. That’s dangerous. And it’s just dumb. (She doesn’t talk about her homemade server that released 100s of 1000s top secret documents to our enemies)

This is the latest in a string of self-inflicted wounds by the new administration that are squandering America’s strength and threatening our national security. Firing hundreds of federal workers charged with protecting our nation’s nuclear weapons is also dumb. So is shutting down efforts to fight pandemics just as a deadly Ebola outbreakis spreading in Africa. It makes no sense to purge talented generals, diplomats and spies at a time when rivals like China and Russia are trying to expand their global reach.

In a dangerous and complex world, it’s not enough to be strong. You must also be smart. As secretary of state during the Obama administration, I argued for smart power, integrating the hard power of our military with the soft power of our diplomacy, development assistance, economic might and cultural influence. None of those tools can do the job alone. Together, they make America a superpower. The Trump approach is dumb power. Instead of a strong America using all our strengths to lead the world and confront our adversaries, Mr. Trump’s America will be increasingly blind and blundering, feeble and friendless.

Let’s start with the military, because that’s what he claims to care about. Don’t let the swagger fool you. Mr. Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth (of group chat fame) are apparently more focused on performative fights over wokenessthan preparing for real fights with America’s adversaries. Does anyone really think deleting tributes to the Tuskegee Airmen makes us more safe? The Trump Pentagon purged images of the plane that dropped the atomic bomb that ended World War II because its name is the Enola Gay. Dumb.

Instead of working with Congress to modernize the military’s budget to reflect changing threats, the president is firing top generals without credible justification. Five former secretaries of defense, Republicans and Democrats, rightly warned that this would “undermine our all-volunteer force and weaken our national security.” Mass layoffs are also hitting the intelligence agencies. As one former senior spy put it, “We’re shooting ourselves in the head, not the foot.” Not smart.

If they’re this reckless with America’s hard power, it’s no surprise that they’re shredding our soft power. As a former secretary of state, I am particularly alarmed by the administration’s plan to close embassies and consulates, fire diplomats and destroy the U.S. Agency for International Development. Let me explain why this matters, because it’s less widely understood than the importance of tanks and fighter jets.

I visited 112 countries and traveled nearly one million miles as America’s top diplomat, and I have seen how valuable it is for our country to be represented on the ground in far-flung places. The U.S. military has long understood that our forces must be forward deployed in order to project American power and respond quickly to crises. The same is true of our diplomats. Our embassies are our eyes and ears informing policy decisions back home. They are launchpads for operations that keep us safe and prosperous, from training foreign counterterrorism forces to helping U.S. companies enter new markets.

China understands the value of forward-deployed diplomacy, which is why it has opened new embassies and consulates around the world and now has more than the United States. The Trump administration’s retreat would leave the field open for Beijing to spread its influence uncontested.

Diplomats win America friends so we don’t have to go it alone in a competitive world. That’s how my colleagues and I were able to rally the United Nations to impose crippling sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program and ultimately force Tehran to stop its progress toward a bomb — something Mr. Trump’s bluster has failed to do. (He actually defunded inspectors keeping an eye on Iranian research sites. Dumb.)

Diplomacy is cost-effective, especially compared with military action. Preventing wars is cheaper than fighting them. Mr. Trump’s own former secretary of defense Jim Mattis, a retired Marine Corps four-star general, told Congress, “If you don’t fund the State Department fully, then I need to buy more ammunition.”

Our development assistance has always been a small portion of the federal budget, but it also has an outsize impact on international stability, especially paired with effective diplomacy. When American aid dollars help stop a famine or an outbreak, when we respond to a natural disaster or open schools, we win hearts and minds that might otherwise go to terrorists or rivals like China. We reduce the flow of migrants and refugees. We strengthen friendly governments that might otherwise collapse.

I don’t want to pretend that any of this is easy or that American foreign policy hasn’t been plagued by mistakes. Leadership is hard. But our best chance to get it right and to keep our country safe is to strengthen our government, not weaken it. We should invest in the patriots who serve our nation, not insult them.

Smart reforms could make federal agencies, including the State Department and U.S.A.I.D., more efficient and effective. During the Clinton administration, my husband’s Reinventing Government initiative, led by Vice President Al Gore, worked with Congress to thoughtfully streamline bureaucracy, modernize the work force and save billions of dollars. In many ways it was the opposite of the Trump administration’s slash-and-burn approach. Today they are not reinventing government; they’re wrecking it.

All of this is both dumb and dangerous. And I haven’t even gotten to the damage Mr. Trump is doing by cozying up to dictators like Russia’s Vladimir Putin, blowing up our alliances — force multipliers that extend our reach and share our burdens — and trashing our moral influence by undermining the rule of law at home. Or how he’s tanking our economy and blowing up our national debt. Propagandists in Beijing and Moscow know we are in a global debate about competing systems of governance. People and leaders around the world are watching to see if democracy can still deliver peace and prosperity or even function. If America is ruled like a banana republic, with flagrant corruption and a leader who puts himself above the law, we lose that argument. We also lose the qualities that have made America exceptional and indispensable.

If there’s a grand strategy at work here, I don’t know what it is. Maybe Mr. Trump wants to return to 19th-century spheres of influence. Maybe he’s just driven by personal grudges and is in way over his head. As a businessman, he bankrupted his Atlantic City casinos. Now he’s gambling with the national security of the United States. If this continues, a group chat foul will be the least of our concerns, and all the fist and flag emojis in the world won’t save us.

Hillary Clinton is a former secretary of state and U.S. senator and was the Democratic Party’s nominee for president in 2016.

The Passing Signal Psychodrama

When we finally learn the full melodrama of the so-called Signal 1-2 day “scandal” of inviting a leftwing, Trump-despising, Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg onto a supposedly secure conference list, involving most of the top Trump security officials, lots of questions need asking and answering.

Most importantly, who exactly had Goldberg’s private number, and ostensibly (in error [?]) could have possibly inserted it into the cleared list of participants in the discussions? Why Goldberg, rather than some random person of some 345 million Americans?

So why in the world would any top Trump officials or their staffers ever even have Goldberg’s private contact information—given his quite public record of a) fabricating stories with unnamed sources, and b) suffering from a decade of chronic Trump derangement syndrome?

Did Goldberg know the mechanisms that had prompted and continued his stealthy presence on the secure discussions?

Why did citizen Goldberg not simply come cleanon day one that he realized he was mistakenly included in key national security conference communications, to which he did not belong, and thus should be obviously excluded immediately? Why stealthily listen in for eleven some days? Was the idea of informing his hosts of his own improper presence too old-fashioned morality?

Did Goldberg’s publicizing these discreet discussions really affect in any way at all the otherwise completely successful mission to neutralize years of appeased Houthis aggression and begin to end their veritable destruction of Red Sea international maritime commerce?

How did this blunder rank with prior diplomatic and military screw-ups?

Did it rate with the indiscretion of Secretary of State Dean Acheson’s January 1950 Press Club speech de facto excluding South Korea from the American defense umbrella—an omission that may or may not have contributed to the June 1950 North Korean invasion of the South?

Was it comparable to Ambassador to Iraq April Glaspie’s assurance to Saddam Hussein, “We have no opinion on your Arab-Arab conflicts, such as your dispute with Kuwait”— a needless remark that may have mistakenly green-lighted his 1990 invasion of Kuwait?

Was it comparable to Barack Obama’s March 2012 “hot mic” quid-pro-quo assuranceto Russian president Medvedev? Obama got caught in front of the world promising Putin that he would have “flexibility” on American-Eastern European missile defense—if Putin gave him “space” during his “last” election.

And indeed, it is forgotten that both kept their promises: Obama foolishly dismantled American-sponsored Eastern European plans for missile defense, and Putin stayed put for Obama, perhaps empowering Obama’s successful election cycle—postponing his preplanned invasions of Ukraine until 2014. Careerism at the expense of national security?

Did it rank with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. Mark Milley, stealthily contacting his Chinese communistcounterpart Chinese Gen. Li Zuocheng, to warn him that he would likely prewarn the People’s Liberation Army leader, if he, Milley, had self-diagnosed his Commander-in-Chief Donald Trump as supposedly dangerously likely to trigger an existential war?

Why would Hillary Clinton weigh ingiven her illegal use of a private server to transmit classified State Department information and her subsequent destruction of subpoenaed communication devices?

Why would the serial fabulist Susan Rice weigh in, given in the election-year 2012 she flat-out lied to the nation on five Sunday news shows, claiming preposterously that the deadly preplanned terrorist attacks on the American consulate in Benghazi were actually unexpected "spontaneous" demonstrations incited by anger over an anti-Muslim video? Ditto her fallacious Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl “honor” narrative or her lie about the removal of Syrian WMD.

Why would Leon Panetta weigh in,when he was one of the supposed “51 intelligence authorities” in 2020 who ridiculously claimed Hunter Biden’s FBI-authenticated laptop had all the hallmarks of a Russian intelligence disinformation effort—a lie designed to arm Joe Biden before the last 2020 debate, and which might well have affected the 2020 election and for which Panetta has never apologized?

In the end, this was a blunder, but also whatthe left calls a “teachable moment”, in which a) all future similar conferences should be either held in person or its participants triple-checked on a secure line; and b) allTrump high appointees and their staffers should know enough to have nothing to do with those who wake up each morning wishing to destroy them—and go to bed each night lamenting that they have not done enough to advance that destruction.

=Federal judge says student group can perform ‘Draggieland’ drag show, overriding Texas A&M ban

Texas A&M recently banned drag shows on campus, stating that they ‘often involve unwelcome and objectively offensive conduct based on sex for many members of the respective communities of the Universities.’

‘This is another display of the resilience of queer joy, as that is an unstoppable force despite those that wish to see it destroyed,’ the Queer Empowerment Council said of the court victory. Article image Brendan McDonald '25 | New Hampshire Correspondent March 27, 2025

A federal judge has ruled that a Texas A&M University LGBTQ student group can proceed with organizing a drag show despite the Board of Regents’ ban on such performances.

The show, “Draggieland,” will take place Thursday at Rudder Theatre in College Station.

Texas A&M University’s Board of Regents voted to ban drag shows on campus on Feb. 28, stating that such performances “often involve unwelcome and objectively offensive conduct based on sex for many members of the respective communities of the Universities, particularly when they involve the mockery or objectification of women.”

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) filed suit on behalf of the student organizers behind “Draggieland,” a group called the Queer Empowerment Council, on March 5.

District Judge Lee H. Rosenthal, however, ruled on Monday that the ban violates the students’ First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and expression.

“In recent years, the commitment to free speech on campuses has been both challenging and challenged,” Rosenthal writes.

“There have been efforts from all sides of the political spectrum to disrupt or prevent students, faculty, and others from expressing opinions and speech that are deemed, or actually are, offensive or wrong.”

“But the law requires the recognition and application of speech rights and guardrails that preserve and protect all our treasured First Amendment rights,”she continues.

“Today, this court, in its required neutral and impartial fashion, applies this law to the facts the parties have presented.”

Ultimately, Rosenthal concludes that the Board’s ban is “viewpoint discrimination,” and thus, unconstitutional.

Alex Griswold, the Communications Campaign Manager for FIRE, directed Campus Reform to the organization’s press release in response to a request for comment.

“We’re overjoyed with today’s decision,” the Queer Empowerment Council says in the release.

“This is another display of the resilience of queer joy, as that is an unstoppable forcedespite those that wish to see it destroyed. While this fight isn’t over, we are going to appreciate the joy we get to bring by putting on the best show that we can do.”

Campus Reform has reached out to the university’s Board of Regents for comment. This article will be updated accordingly.

Elon Musk Announces Plans for 24-Hour Tesla Diner in Hollywood, Leftists Have Meltdown

Alana Mastrangelo28 Mar 2025

Elon Musk is reportedly planning to open a 24-hour Tesla diner in Hollywood, which will include a drive-in theater charging station. Leftists are having a meltdown in response, including turning their ire on a prominent restaurant owner who said Musk’s plan is “exciting.”

The establishment is meant to be a place where Tesla drivers can engage in leisure activities while stopping to charge their electric vehicles, according to a report by ABC 7 News. Musk is moving forward with his plans even as Tesla facilities have become the target of massive protests and domestic terrorism attacks.

While an official opening date has not been announced, Musk is reportedly trying to recruit high-profile chefs to provide food at his 24-hour Tesla diner. The leftist outrage against Musk and anyone who dares to support his latest idea has been swift.

For example, Walter Manzke — who owns the famed Los Angeles restaurant République with his wife, Margarita — is facing backlash after expressing his and Margarita’s apparent support for the SpaceX CEO’s endeavors, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.

Manzke was quoted in a recent New York Timesarticle reacting to Musk’s Tesla café plans, saying, “It sounds exciting.”

The restaurant owner also suggested his wife is a fan of Musk, adding, “She told me the other day that she wants to buy a Tesla, so I can tell you what side she’s on.”

Manzke’s remarks sparked outrage among some République patrons, who apparently have strong negative opinions about Musk in the wake of his support for President Donald Trump and his work in leading the current administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), tasked with rooting out wasteful government spending.

Someone running the restaurant’s social media also took to République’s Instagram account to issue a statement countering the owner’s implied political support for Musk.

“At République, we believe in focusing on what we do best — creating exceptional food and a welcoming experience for all our guests,” an employee of the French bistro wrote. “In response to a recent New York Times article, we want to clarify that the quote about possibly buying a Tesla was simply about exploring electric vehicle options, not a political statement.”

“We value innovation and sustainability, and we respect all viewpoints,” the statement continued, adding,“République does not take political stances; we are here to create a space for everyone, no matter their background or beliefs.”

The post, however, was quickly deleted, Los Angeles Times noted.

The outlet also pointed out that République is a cornerstone of the Los Angeles dining scene, frequently topping “best of” lists, and oftentimes ranking in the top 10 in the city’s “101 Best Restaurants” list since it opened in 2014.
