Today in 1946, the Census Bureau and the National Bureau of Standards met to discuss the purchase of the UNIVAC computer. They agreed to purchase the early all-purpose business computer for only $225,000, having been massively under quoted by the UNIVAC producers. It would be five years before the UNIVAC was delivered in March 1951.
