Trump Revokes Security Clearances For Law Firm That Hired Robert Mueller

President Donald Trump issued a proclamation on March 27 suspending security clearances held by WilmerHale lawyers due to activities that he deemed “detrimental to critical American interests.”

The order directs government agencies to revoke security clearances for WilmerHale employees, terminate any contracts with the law firm, and restrict its employees’ access to government buildings.

The proclamation specifically cited WilmerHale’s employment of former special counsel Robert Mueller, along with his top aides, Aaron Zebley and James Quarles.

Mueller had previously investigated allegations of cooperation between Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russian actors. The probe ultimately found no evidence that they conspired to influence the election.

In his order, Trump accused WilmerHale of engaging in “obvious partisan representations to achieve political ends” by employing lawyers who, he said, abused their prosecutorial power “to upend the democratic process and distort justice.”

“Mueller’s investigation epitomizes the weaponization of government, yet WilmerHale claimed he ‘embodies the highest value of our firm and profession’,” the order stated. “This weaponization of the justice system must not be rewarded, let alone condoned.”

The proclamation also alleges that WilmerHale used its pro bono practices to allow noncitizens to vote and undermine efforts “to prevent illegal aliens from committing horrific crimes and trafficking deadly drugs within our borders.” The law firm is also accused of discriminating against employees based on their race.

WilmerHale employs more than 1,100 lawyers and has a leading U.S. Supreme Court practice. Some of its major clients include Apple, Harvard University, Meta, and Tesla.

In response to Trump’s proclamation, a WilmerHale spokesperson defended its hiring of Mueller, saying that he retired from the firm in 2021 after a “long, distinguished career in public service.”

“We look forward to pursuing all appropriate remedies to this unlawful order,” the spokesperson said in a statement to multiple news outlets.

Of course, the Kremlin has rejected such reports, and there's been no indications issued by US intelligence of some kind of dire health event impacting Putin's ability to rule.

Zelensky's motive in claiming this became evident elsewhere in the interview, when he said: "It is very important that America does not help Putin to get out of this global isolation now."

Europe has been vocalizing stronger support to Kiev, even as Washington distances itself - and as it pursues bilateral talks and negotiations with Russia.

France's Macron is even pushing a coalition of countries willing to deploy Western troops to Ukraine, which if followed through on would certainly spark broader war with nuclear-armed Russia.

Israeli Strikes On Beirut Unleash Panic In First Attacks Since November Truce

All schools and universities in the suburb of Hadath have been ordered closed for the day by the Lebanese government, as residents fled in cars and by foot after the Israeli warning.

British specialists set coordinates for a Ukrainian missile system that struck a gas metering station, the Foreign Ministry has said

France and the UK actively aided Kiev in a strike on the Sudzha pipeline infrastructure in Russia’s Kursk Region on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has told journalists. Earlier the Russian Defense Ministry said that a metering facility was “de facto destroyed” in a Ukrainian HIMARS attack.

“[We] have reasons to believe that targeting and navigation were facilitated through French satellites and British specialists input [target] coordinates and launched [the missiles],” Zakharova said, commenting on the strike.

“The command came from London,” she said, branding the attack part of a Ukrainian “terror” campaign targeting Russian energy infrastructure. The spokeswoman added that such actions demonstrate that Kiev is “impossible to negotiate with.”

Although Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky “publicly supported” a temporary suspension of strikes on energy infrastructure agreed by Moscow and Washington, he “did nothing to observe it,” according to Zakharova.

Moscow ordered that attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure cease on March 18, following a phone call between presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. Russia and the US also agreed on a list of energy facilities that should not be targeted as part of a truce earlier this week. The list included gas facilities.

We’re going down from 82,000 personnel to 62,000.”

Private Data and Passwords of Senior U.S. Security Officials Found Online

Donald Trump's most important security advisers used Signal to discuss an imminent military strike. Now, reporting by DER SPIEGEL has found that the contact data of some of those officials, including mobile phone numbers, is freely accessible on the internet.

Private contact details of the most important security advisers to U.S. President Donald Trump can be found on the internet. DER SPIEGEL reporters were able to find mobile phone numbers, email addresses and even some passwords belonging to the top officials.

To do so, the reporters used commercial people search engines along with hacked customer data that has been published on the web. Those affected by the leaks include National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

Most of these numbers and email addresses are apparently still in use, with some of them linked to profiles on social media platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn. They were used to create Dropbox accounts and profiles in apps that track running data. There are also WhatsApp profiles for the respective phone numbers and even Signal accounts in some cases.

As such, the reporting has revealed an additional grave, previously unknown security breach at the highest levels in Washington. Hostile intelligence services could use this publicly available data to hack the communications of those affected by installing spyware on their devices. It is thus conceivable that foreign agents were privy to the Signal chat group in which Gabbard, Waltz and Hegseth discussed a military strike.

It remains unclear, however, whether this extremely problematic chat was conducted using Signal accounts linked to the private telephone numbers of the officials involved. Tulsi Gabbard has declined to comment. DER SPIEGEL reporting has demonstrated, though, that privately used and publicly accessible telephone numbers belonging to her and Waltz are, in fact, linked to Signal accounts.

The U.S. newsmagazine The Atlantic revealed on Monday that Gabbard, Waltz and Hegseth, along with CIA Director John Ratcliffe and additional officials, discussed an imminent military strike against the Houthi militia in Yemen in a Signal chat. The information shared among the participants included intelligence information and precise attack plans. According to the Atlantic, Waltz added the editor-in-chief of the magazine, Jeffrey Goldberg, to the chat group. Precisely why he did so remains unclear.

The White House confirmed the scandal after the fact. Trump insisted that it did not include classified content, a question that is of particular relevance since members of the U.S. government are not permitted to share such information over Signal. The U.S. special envoy for Ukraine and the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, was even in Russia while participating in the chat group.

Turkish Authorities Arrest Imamoglu’s Lawyer As Protests Continue

Turkish authorities arrested the lawyer of jailed Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu as protests over the crackdown on the opposition leader went on.

“My lawyer Mehmet Pehlivan was detained on fictitious grounds,” Imamoglu said in a post to the X social network on March 27. “As if the coup against democracy was not enough, they cannot tolerate the victims of this coup defending themselves.”

The opposition leader went on to accuse President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government of wanting “to add a legal coup to the coup against democracy.”

“The evil that a handful of incompetent people are inflicting on our country is growing. Release my lawyer immediately,” he added.

Politico, citing Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet, said that Pehlivan was taken to a police station but no criminal charges were immediately announced.

Imamoglu was arrested on May 19 on corruption and terrorism charges before he was expected to be nominated as the Republican People’s Party (CHP) main candidate for the presidency. Earlier on March 24, the popular opposition leader was jailed and stripped of his duties pending trial over the corruption charges.

Overnight, protests against the crackdown on Imamoglu continued in Istanbul and a number of other Turkish cities. Clashes with riot police were reported.

Alawites Are Still Being Killed On Syria’s Coast

Civilians from the Alawite religious minority are still being targeted by the forces of Syria’s Islamist-led interim government.

In addition to the recent killing, several women and young girls were reportedly abducted from Tartus and Latakia in recent days, with local activists blaming government forces.

More than 1,600 civilians, mostly Alawites, were killed during a brutal government crackdown on the coast that began on March 6.

After facing international pressure, the Syrian government announced that all operations on the coast were over by March 10 and formed an investigation committee. However, Alawite civilians are still being targeted by government forces on a daily basis.

The last crackdown displaced at least 21,000 Alawites to northern and eastern Lebanon with around 10,000 others taking shelter at Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base near the city of Jableh in the southern countryside of Latakia. The numbers continue to grow.

Earlier this week, government forces dispatched large reinforcements to the coast, sparking fears of a new wave of violence.

There were also reports of Russian forces expanding their control around Khmeimim to improve the security of the air base and protect civilians taking shelter there.

Overall, the Syrian government is yet to take any steps to assure the Alawites or at least to end the violence on the coast. At the same time, none of the fighters and commanders responsible for killing civilians during the last crackdown has been held accountable yet. This threatens to push Syria towards a dangerous sectarian war that could lead to even more division.

Iranian Jews protest against Israel, denounce 'Zionist regime'
