Dear Tyler Rogoway, Howard Altman and Cpl. Jade K. Venegas,
Anon takes umbrage at the authorship of the attached photo caption. Hand over heart is not the "proper procedure" for the national anthem. It is, however, proper procedure for the pledge of allegiance. It is important to fully understand that placing the hand over the heart during the anthem is neither a pledge, nor proper. It is a sad display of mass public acceptance of monkey see monkey do behavior that manifested itself in the days after September 11th, 2001. This display of what people consider to be correct behavior during such solemn proceedings is truly disturbing to this anon. The persistance of this practice truly shows the inherent psychological malleability of the general public during trying times. And how easily they forget and/or cast aside what is proper in favor of some new perceived virtue signal or emotional security blanket. The fact that (you) perpetuate the myth of what is now supposedly correct as a journalist speaks poorly of your craftsmanship in your chosen vocation. Please cease and desist from doing so in the future. And publish a correction. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Yours truly,
Anon
