My guess, and only a guess, is cabal paid an idiot to do it. If you look in ancient sites since Egypt and maybe before, they would deface the statues of kings and people they wanted to be forgotten. I think it is a thing they do. I don't understand all the ramification, just a pattern I have noticed.
