Nobody seems to be able to see that when POTUS is very positive the media counters him with vitriol and the public sees them both and prefers POTUS.
Further, like with LRM (NK) and the Mullahs, he talks tough - the media counters his toughness - and it is the perfect good cop/bad cop scenario for POTUS. Our adversaries fear him, in part, because our media and establishment so obviously fear him.
