Deutsche Bank has raised concerns over a possible erosion of trust in the US currency amid escalating trade tensions

A deepening crisis of confidence in the US dollar may be unfolding, Deutsche Bank has warned. The caution follows US President Donald Trump’s announcement of sweeping new tariffs, which have rattled financial markets and intensified fears of a global trade war.

In a note to clients on Thursday cited by Reuters, George Saravelos, global head of foreign exchange research at the German financial giant, said that major changes in capital flows could destabilize currency markets.

“Our overall message is that there is a risk that major shifts in capital flow allocations take over from currency fundamentals and that FX [foreign exchange market] moves become disorderly,” he wrote.

The US dollar has dropped sharply this week, falling more than 1.5% against both the euro and the Japanese yen and over 1% against the British pound. The declines come in the wake of Trump’s decision to impose tariffs, ranging from 10% to 50%, on a broad range of imports from dozens of countries. Heightening fears of a global trade war have reportedly spurred investors to seek safe-haven assets.

Saravelos cautioned that a prolonged erosion of trust in the dollar could have far-reaching consequences, particularly for the eurozone, posing challenges to the European Central Bank (ECB).

“The last thing the ECB wants is an externally imposed disinflationary shock from a loss in dollar confidence and a sharp appreciation in the euro on top of tariffs,” he said.

The ECB has reportedly voiced concerns that the US trade measures could disrupt global economic cooperation, destabilize inflation expectations, and force monetary policy recalibration.

The fallout from the tariffs has been swift. Stock markets have tumbled worldwide, oil prices have dropped, and bond yields have retreated as investors brace for slower economic growth. Meanwhile, assets seen as safe havens—including gold, German bunds, and the Swiss franc—have all seen an increase in demand.

Other financial institutions, including JPMorgan and Fitch, have issued similar warnings, the Financial Times and Reuters report, estimating that the tariffs could reduce US GDP growth by up to 1.5% and potentially tip other major economies into recession.

Elon Musk's Neuralink Seeks Patients Globally To Try Its Brain Chips

Neuralink has put out a global call for patients willing to test drive its brain chips, which allow people to control computers with just their thoughts

Neuralink is looking for people with quadriplegia — those who are not able to use their arms or legs — to sign up for a clinical trial, it said in an April 2 post on X, the social media platform also owned by Musk.

As of January, Neuralink has said that three patients have been implanted with a device. All are quadriplegic and are testing a small brain implant that tracks neural activity to control a computer or smartphone as part of a clinical trial called the Precise Robotically Implanted Brain-Computer Interface, or PRIME study.

Neuralink is one of several companies and academic institutions developing and testing so-called brain-computer interfaces, which vary from small wire-like implants as part of clinical trials to non-invasive devices akin to a hat.

Neuralink’s website says its clinical PRIME study, which will take around six years, is looking for quadriplegics with spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis to use their thoughts to control a computer.

Musk also heads vehicle maker Tesla and is the Trump administration's government cost-cutting czar. He has said he wants Neuralink to move beyond just allowing humans to operate computers by thinking and wants to help “give people superpowers.”

First Neuralink patient reports no side effects after a year

Noland Arbaugh, Neuralink's first patient, said in a March 28 X post that he’s “had no negative side effects, neither physically nor psychologically” in the year after receiving his brain implant.

Arbaugh, a quadriplegic, demoed his brain chip about a year ago by controlling a computer cursor to play chess and surf the web.

US faces fiscal collapse – Michael Bloomberg

Congress must focus on restoring fiscal control and deficit reduction in order to avoid “the grim reckoning,” the billionaire believes

The former New York Mayor warned about the impending collapse on Tuesday in the media outlet he established. He reflected on the latest Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projections, that indicated the US budget deficit and federal debt are bound to grow, albeit at slower speeds than projected a year ago.

These dire forecasts send an “unambiguous message” that “there’ll be a reckoning, and it will be grim” unless Congress urgently changes course, Bloomberg warned. The US is heading towards a “fiscal breakdown” given that public borrowing is expected “to remain at this elevated level or higher for decades,” he pointed out.

“The federal government is currently spending roughly $7 trillion and collecting only $5 trillion in taxes annually. The resulting deficit is a little over 6% of gross domestic product, a disturbingly high number for an economy around full employment,” he wrote. US deficits have reached record levels this decade.

Assuming no recessions, public debt will rise to 100% of GDP this year and 118% by 2035 – and it just keeps rising from there.

The founder of Bloomberg L. P. criticized the proposed tax cuts repeatedly promised by US President Donald Trump as well as the import duties he is pursuing in order to restore the balance of trade. “The [tariffs’] impact on overall revenue is likely to be negative, because tariffs depress commercial activity and job creation,” Bloomberg suggested.

The ongoing cost-cutting efforts of the Trump administration are unlikely to have any long-term impact on the budget, while damaging public services and angering voters who see that “public parks are closed, health care is declining, and deaths from infectious disease are becoming more common,” Bloomberg suggested.

“Savings from slashing the federal payroll won’t have any appreciable effect, either. For all the media attention generated by cuts to personnel and programs — and some of them are warranted — they are having almost no impact on restraining the budget deficit,” he wrote.

Instead, the US government should cautiously raise taxes while further reducing spending and keep some pro-growth measures intact, such as a “bigger standard income-tax deduction and stronger investment incentives,” in order to “deliver a substantial net reduction in projected deficits,” Bloomberg suggested.

“Restoring fiscal control should be job No. 1 for this Congress. The only sensible approach is to combine moderate tax increases and judicious cuts in spending. Spreading the burden would allow the changes to be more palatable and gradual, if they’re undertaken soon,” he wrote.

Thursday morning, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) introduced a bill with far-left Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), which would almost certainly put Trump’s new tariffs entirely on ice. The legislation’s stated purpose is to ‘reassert’ the legislative branch’s power over tariff policy.

“The Trade Review Act of 2025” requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of imposing new tariffs. The president must also present a detailed rationale and analysis of the potential consequences for American businesses and consumers.

Moreover, the legislation will require ALL tariffs to be approved by Congress within 60 days, or they will automatically expire.

Should this bill ever become law, Trump would no longer have the power to impose tariffs on ANY nation indefinitely unless he gets a permission slip from a potentially hostile Congress.

Even duties imposed on China, America’s most significant geopolitical adversary, would need congressional approval. This leads one to wonder which side Grassley and Cantwell are on.

Seeing Grassley’s name attached to this bill is incredibly disappointing, considering he has been a stalwart ally of Trump’s, particularly on illegal immigration and fighting the Deep State.

However, he has also long been allied with Big Agriculture, which supports globalist trade policies. Did he get an earful from them following Trump’s trade announcement?

Should “The Trade Review Act of 2025” ever become law, it would mark one of the most significant transfers of power from one branch of government to another in recent memory. And if the stock market continues to slide, all bets are off regarding a showdown between the president and Congress on tariffs.

Hollywood Actor Jean-Claude Van Damme Named in Romanian Sex Trafficking Scandal — Actor Accused of Sleeping with Five Victims He Knew were Trafficked

Action movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme has been named in a criminal complaint filed by Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).

The 64-year-old Belgian-born star, known for his high-octane roles in Bloodsport, Kickboxer, and Street Fighter, is accused of knowingly engaging in sexual acts with five Romanian women who were allegedly victims of a human trafficking ring.

The allegations claim the incidents took place roughly a decade ago at an event in Cannes, organized by Van Damme himself.

According to reports from CNN affiliate Antena 3, the women—presented as photo models—were offered to Van Damme as a “gift” by a criminal group already under investigation for pimping and trafficking, led by Romanian businessman Morel Bolea.

Attorney Adrian Cuculis, representing one of the alleged victims, told the news outlet, “The person who received those benefits knew their condition,” suggesting Van Damme was fully aware the women were exploited.

The complaint alleges the actor’s actions violated Romania’s strict laws against human trafficking and exploitation, potentially implicating him in a broader network of cross-border crime.

According to Page Six, proceedings are pending authorization from France’s High Court of Cassation, which must approve further legal action and allow for suspect depositions in Romania.

The US and Israel are currently planning to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities, an attack that could happen in a “few weeks’ time,” Daily Mail columnist Dan Hodges reported on Wednesday.

Hodges wrote the report while in Tel Aviv and cited Israeli political, diplomatic, and military sources. He said the purpose of the strike would be to “eradicate the threat” posed by Iran’s “nuclear weapons program,” although there’s no evidence Tehran has a nuclear weapons program, a fact recently confirmed by US intelligence agencies.

A senior Israeli diplomatic source told Hodges that Trump’s presidency offers the best time to hit Iran. “From Israel’s perspective, with Trump in the White House, this represents the optimum moment to deal with Iran. There won’t be a better chance,” the official said.

Trump recently threatened to bomb Iran if a nuclear deal isn’t reached, and he has reportedly given Tehran a two-month deadline, which would end at the end of May. Iran responded to Trump by rejecting direct talks in the face of increasing US pressure, but Tehran has offered to hold indirect negotiations.

Axios reported on Wednesday that the White House is seriously considering Iran’s offer for indirect talks but is building up US forces in the Middle East to prepare for an attack on the Islamic Republic.

US officials told Axios that there is an internal debate in the White House between those who want to engage with the Iranians and those who would rather bomb Iran right away. The report reads: “If Trump decides the time is up, he will have a loaded gun at the ready.”

Recent US deployments to the Middle East have included an additional aircraft carrier, additional air assets, and sending more B-2 bombers to the US base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. According to Haaretz, the buildup is the largest offensive US deployment in the region since October 7, 2023.

The US buildup also comes amid a heavy US bombing campaign in Yemen, which Trump launched on March 15. The president has tied the airstrikes to Iran, saying each Houthi attack will be blamed on the Islamic Republic, even though US officials have acknowledged the Houthis act independently and have their own domestically-produced weapons supply.

A full-blown US-Israeli attack on Iran would likely provoke major Iranian missile attacks on US bases in the region, and things could escalate rapidly from there. In the face of US threats, a senior IRGC commander warned that the US has “10 bases in the region, particularly around Iran, and 50,000 troops based in there” and said the US is “sitting in a glass house.”

Nike Stock Plunges as Low-Wage Factories in China, Vietnam, Indonesia Face Trump’s Tariffs

Nike stock is plunging on Thursday, the day after President Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariffs that will end the nation’s decades-long free trade policy.

“NKE was last seen 11.3% lower at $57.62, as investors digest the long-term impact of rising supply chain costs on the company’s margins,” Schaeffer’s Investment Research reports. “The stock is set to snap a three-day win streak, extending its late-March post-earnings bear gap and hitting its lowest level since November 2017. Nike stock now carries a 23.5% year-to-date deficit.”

On Wednesday evening, Trump announced reciprocal tariffs — adding a 34 percent tariff on China, a 46 percent tariff on Vietnam, a 49 percent tariff on Cambodia, a 32 percent tariff on Indonesia, and a 36 percent tariff on Thailand, among a long list of others.

Shares in Nike, Adidas, and Puma dropped sharply after Vietnam was targeted with a 46% tariff rate, Cambodia with 49%, Bangladesh with 37% and Indonesia with 32%, while Trump hiked tariffs on China by an extra 34 percentage points, following the earlier 20% tariffs. [Emphasis added]

The reciprocal tariffs are particularly bad news for massive low-wage outsourcers like Nike, which operates 117 factories in China with nearly 108,000 Chinese workers and 130 factories in Vietnam with almost 460,000 Vietnamese workers.

Bill Gates Foundation, Other Nonprofits Could Lose Tax-Exempt Status Over Anti-White Discrimination

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and two other nonprofit organizations have come under fire for allegedly implementing scholarship and career advancement programs that discriminate against white Americans, potentially violating federal law and jeopardizing their tax-exempt status.

The American Alliance for Equal Rights (AAER) reported three organizations, the Gates Foundation, the Lagrant Foundation, and the Creative Capital Foundation, in letters to the IRS, claiming the nonprofits have “intentionally” discriminated against white people.

These cases of discrimination, AAER says, constitute “sufficient grounds” for the IRS to revoke the tax-exempt statuses of these three organizations.

Edward Blum, the president of the AAER, blasted the groups for engaging in race-based discrimination while enjoying public subsidies on account of their tax-exempt status. “Organizations that discriminate based on race—whether their intentions are benevolent or not—are not eligible for public subsidies through the tax code,” Blum asserted. “The IRS must act to uphold the law.”

The Gates Foundation, AAER says, is “intentionally discriminating against white students by excluding them from the tuition assistance and specialized support that it provides to students of every other race or ethnicity.” The foundation’s Gates Scholarship states that the program is a “highly selective, last dollar scholarship for outstanding, minority high school students” before listing acceptable racial and ethnic backgrounds in its eligibility requirements.

A 2022 video advertising the Gates Scholarship reaffirms that only “low-income, minority students” are eligible. The program is only open to students who are “African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, or Native American.”

AAER also blasted the Lagrant Foundation, which it similarly accuses of engaging in race-based discrimination against whites.

The Lagrant Foundation partners with large corporations like Walmart, Microsoft, and Charles Schwab and seeks to “increase the number of ethnic minorities in the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations.” It lists the approved racial and ethnic backgrounds eligible for the program, which is limited to African Americans, Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, and Hispanics.

Another organization, called Creative Capital, teamed up with the leftist Skoll Foundation to similarly engage in discrimination, AAER claimed in its letter.

Skoll and Creative Capital, which provides funding to artists, worked alongside Kickstarter “to launch a $500,000 Creative Capital x Skoll Foundation Fund that backs projects by Asian, Black, Indigenous, and Latinx creators on the crowdfunding platform.”

Artists selected for the program were also given “access to Creative Capital’s vast educational resources and workshops at no-charge” and “strategic guidance” from “Kickstarter’s category experts.”

“These organizations are free to operate as they wish—but not with the public subsidy that tax-exempt status provides,” Blum charged. “Racial discrimination—whether in scholarships, professional development, or artistic grants—violates public policy and must not be underwritten by American taxpayers.”

The three nonprofits are far from the only organizations accused of openly engaging in blatant race-based discrimination in the name of DEI, however. One Massachusetts music nonprofit ran a “BIPOC internship” that similarly excluded white people, informing applicants that “we welcome Black, Indigenous, and other persons of color to apply.”

A wide range of corporations have also discriminated against white applicants, a series of Daily Wire investigations revealed. NASCAR, McKinsey and Company, Oracle, Apple, and various other corporations appear to have engaged in openly discriminatory practices in the name of DEI.

200+ groups plan massive rally in US capital as Trump admin criminalises Gaza genocide protests

Organisers say they will protest against US authority's crack down on pro-Palestine voices, mainly students, to show that they will not be frightened into submission.

Over 200 groups have announced they will march outside the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) headquarters in the US capital on April 5 to protest against the Trump administration's relentless crackdown on pro-Palestine voices.

"Trump and his billionaire administration think that they can repress our movement by targeting and persecuting our leaders in a historic crackdown on free speech. But we are not afraid. April 5 will be a show of force where we will take a stand against the persecution of Mahmoud Khalil and so many other student leaders," the People's Forum, one of the organisers, said in a statement.

The march aims to demand the release of Mahmoud Khalil, Badar Khan Suri, and Rumeysa Ozturk, along with other students who have criticised Israel's genocide in besieged Gaza.

"This march will send a powerful message that the people of this country reject Trump's crackdown on the right to protest, just like we reject our tax dollars being used to massacre people in Gaza," said Layan Fuleihan of the People's Forum.

The Palestinian Youth Movement said it's "imperative" to protest to show that pro-Palestine voices won't be "frightened into submission."

"Every day, we are confronted with more atrocities committed by Netanyahu and Trump. Dozens of people are being killed each day by Israeli air strikes across Gaza, including aid workers, journalists, and children. For the people of Gaza, for the right to protest, it is imperative that we take to the streets on April 5 to show that we will not be frightened into submission," said Taher Dahleh of the Palestinian Youth Movement.

Organisers said over 200 groups from across the US have endorsed the march, including trade unions, women's organisations, anti-war groups, Muslim groups, artists and cultural workers.

Victoria passes sweeping anti-vilification law with five-year jail terms for hate speech offenses

In a historic move, the Victorian Parliament passed the Anti-Vilification & Social Cohesion Bill early this morning at 4 a.m. The legislation, approved by a vote of 22 to 17, introduces sweeping protections for individuals against vilification based on a wide range of characteristics. These include race, religion, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, employment status, and even medical or criminal records. The bill aims to curb hate speech and promote inclusivity across the state.

Under the new law, it will be illegal to offend, insult, humiliate, or ridicule individuals belonging to any of the protected classes. Serious offenses, such as incitement of hatred or physical threats, could result in penalties of up to five years in prison. The legislation is set to take effect on June 30, 2026, giving Victorians an opportunity to voice their opinions in the upcoming state election. Mastercard, Facing Pressure Over Role In Global Censorship Effort, Agrees To Major Change

After being a major part of a global network of companies that cracked down on conservative speech in the name of so-called misinformation, credit card giant Mastercard has agreed that it will no longer make marketing or branding decisions based on third-parties, according to emails obtained by The Daily Wire.

The announcement comes after a group of investors represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom were prepping a resolution targeting the credit card company over its involvement with the Global Alliance for Responsible Media or GARM. Mastercard will release a new company policy in the coming months making clear that third-party views will not influence branding or marketing decisions, the company told the Alliance Defending Freedom this week.

GARM, which disbanded in August 2024, a month after its leaders were called in to testify to Congress, was an organization founded by the World Federation of Advertisers to ensure that companies only advertised with media outlets deemed “responsible.” In the name of this goal, GARM targeted podcasters like Joe Rogan, platforms like Elon Musk’s X, and conservative outlets like The Daily Wire, according to a congressional investigation. The Daily Wire’s Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro testified that the aim of the advertising coalition was to “throttle viewpoints” that Democrat legislators and the Biden administration did not like.

After meetings with Alliance Defending Freedom lawyers, Mastercard, which was on the board of the World Federation of Advertisers that oversaw GARM, now says that it alone will determine its marketing and branding strategy.

“We advance our marketing priorities with a close eye on the value delivered to our brand, the interest and relevance to the intended audience, and whether the media channel/platform supports our ability to deliver new and unique experiences to the end consumer,” a copy of the policy viewed by The Daily Wire says. “Mastercard alone makes decisions on our brand and our marketing activities, independent of any third-party views.”That came after Inspire Investing, a Christian investment company represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, met with Mastercard to discuss a proposed shareholder resolution to call for an investigation over Mastercard’s involvement with GARM.

A draft of the resolution viewed by The Daily Wire called for Mastercard to evaluate “how it oversees risks related to discrimination against ad buyers and sellers based on their political or religious status or views.”

After Mastercard agreed to distance itself from third-party organizations, Inspire Investing and Alliance Defending Freedom agreed to withdraw the resolution.

“This is a meaningful step forward for Mastercard,” Inspire Investing Director of Corporate Engagement Tim Schwarzenberger told The Daily Wire. “We appreciate Mastercard’s willingness to engage with shareholders and make this important commitment to making decisions independent of third-party influences. It’s a positive step for free speech, religious freedom, and ultimately for all Mastercard stakeholders.”

Jeremy Tedesco, the senior vice President of corporate engagement at Alliance Defending Freedom, said the new policy from Mastercard represented a major win for conservative customers.

“MasterCard, their business purpose is to make sure that people can transact funds. And that’s it. And that’s what they should be doing,” he told The Daily Wire. “They shouldn’t be taking their ad buying power and trying to shut down people they disagree with in the marketplace of ideas.”

He also said that it was a necessary step to hold companies accountable that supported the censorship of conservatives.

Former US presidential candidate Ralph Nader claimed that over 400,000 Gazans have been killed by the IDF, without evidence, since the start of the war in October 2023, in a Monday article on the left-wing online magazine CounterPunch.

In his article, titled "The Vast Gaza Death Undercount," he says that Gaza's civilian population would not "withstand over 115,000 tons of bombs, plus artillery, grenades, and snipers targeting civilians, with uncontrollable fires everywhere." He also makes the claim that "five thousand babies a month are born into the rubble."

Nader's estimate is also nearly eight times the amount of what the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry reported as the death toll, which they claim has passed 50,000 last month. However, he rebutted Hamas's numbers, claiming that the terror group is reporting lesser numbers "to lessen the ire of its people for not protecting them."

His argument for the death toll reaching 400,000 also includes indirect deaths and mentions higher estimates than Hamas's numbers, which were made by UN agencies and The Lancet, the latter of which claimed in a publication last July that the death toll was around 186,000, but is less than half of the number that the former presidential candidate claimed.

Nader also wrote that the terror group "Hamas counts only names of the deceased given by hospitals and mortuaries."

The day after Nader's piece was published, non-profit organization Honest Reporting's Salo Aizenberg told The Telegraph that the terrorist organization had quietly removed the names of thousands of Palestinians it had previously alleged were killed during the war after looking at the terror groups' casualty updates from last month, which.

Hamas's updated list shows that nearly three-quarters of those killed were men aged 13-55, which is the demographic that makes up the Palestinian terrorist organization.

The terror group had previously claimed that 70% of their casualties were women and children. Israel, meanwhile, has said that 20,000 Hamas terrorists have been killed since the beginning of the war as of late March.

Defense Minister Israel Katz on Thursday appointed IDF Col. Netanel Kula to replace Brig. Gen. Kobi Mandelblit as the next IDF chief censor.

Mandelblit entered office in June 2022 and has survived nearly three years of debates and tensions with the media and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, especially during the current war.

In November 2023, Haaretz reported that Mandelblit had told senior IDF officers that he was being pressured by Netanyahu to block reports without a national security justification and that Netanyahu wanted to remove him.

As Donald Trump and Elon Musk take a chainsaw to the federal bureaucracy, the cuts at the IRS may be especially good news for America’s wealthiest taxpayers.

The IRS’s unit that audits billionaires and other ultrawealthy individuals has lost 38% of its employees this year amid the Trump administration’s slashing of the federal workforce, according to new data obtained by ICIJ. The office, known as Global High Wealth, employed 353 people before the cuts and has experienced a far higher rate of terminations compared to the IRS as a whole, the data shows.

The unit’s losses have left behind unfinished audits of ultrawealthy individuals and cases that have either stalled or are being closed, according to four current revenue agents within the high-wealth office. The agents spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press.

The losses are a big reversal for the IRS’s recent effort to step up its tax enforcement among the wealthiest Americans, who authorities say account for a disproportionately high share of tax cheating. Under the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, Congress allocated the IRS $80 billion in additional funding, in part to strengthen its efforts to audit wealthy individuals and large corporations. However, Congressional Republicans have clawed back half of that funding, while the IRS has become a central target of the Trump administration’s cost-cutting effort led by billionaire Elon Musk.

Earlier this year, the IRS had roughly 100,000 employees overall. Last month, the Trump administration terminated more than 7,000 IRS probationary staff members across the agency. The IRS also reportedly lost another 4,000 or 5,000 workers, who took the administration’s much-publicized buyout offer.

Dem fundraiser ActBlue made donation standards ‘more lenient,’ received foreign contributions during 2024 election: internal docs

Democratic fundraising powerhouse ActBlue changed its fraud policy twice during the 2024 campaign, implementing “more lenient” standards that let foreign and other suspicious donor money flow into US campaigns, according to internal company documents and other records exclusively obtained by The Post.

The ActBlue fraud-prevention standards changed in April 2024 and again that September, with the relaxed guidelines allowing between 14 and 28 more fraudulent contributions per month.

Under the updated policy, up to 6.4% of total ActBue donations that should have been rejected for fraud were missed.

The platform had already allowed donors to give money without a card verification value (CVV) for transactions until January 2024 — roughly halfway through the election cycle — and the new standards still instructed ActBlue employees to “look for reasons to accept contributions.”

The firm’s fraud-prevention specialist also shifted their focus to “DEI work,” while stating a goal of “not allowing more than 10% additional missed fraud” from political donations.

By December 2024, a sheet tallying “known instances of fraud” revealed hundreds of donations — including from Brazil, Colombia, India, Iraq, the Philippines and Saudi Arabia, among other nations — were going toward Democratic campaigns and causes.

ActBlue until last year did not require CVVs for online transactions with debit cards or credit cards and accepted all prepaid gift cards, even as some donors gave well beyond their means or to the opposite party from the one they usually back.

Employee performance reviews from the fraud-prevention team also found contributions from “foreign IP” addresses and with incomplete donor names.

At least 237 individual donations were made from foreign IP addresses using prepaid US debit or gift cards between September and October 2024, forcing ActBlue to ban the practice.

It also resulted in state-level probes and a bombshell racketeering lawsuit brought by a Wisconsin Republican strategist that alleged ActBlue stole his identity to allow 385 fraudulent contributions to go toward liberal groups — including then-Vice President Kamala Harris’ super PAC.

Between September 2022 and November 2024, ActBlue racked up 1,900 fraudulent transactions in total, but House Republicans who published the company’s internal documents in a report claim the suspicious donations are far more “widespread.”

Argentine forces invaded the Falkland Islands – a British territory in the South Atlantic – 43 years ago today.

UK prime minister Margaret Thatcher responded by dispatching a naval taskforce to retake the territory, pinning her political career on military success some 8,000 miles from London.

The conflict lasted for 74 days and cost the lives of over 900 people, with Thatcher scoring her highest ever public approval rating shortly after the Argentine surrender in June 1982.

“It is no exaggeration to say that… the Falklands War transformed the British political scene”, she later wrote in her memoirs. “I could feel the impact of the victory wherever I went”.

Yet victory in the Falklands was far from inevitable, and Argentina’s prospects of holding onto the islands had been boosted by military support from an unlikely source: Israel.

The Argentine dictatorship was notoriously anti-Semitic. By the early 1980s, it had ‘disappeared’ as many as 30,000 people, with a disproportionate ten percent of those being Jewish.

Jacobo Timerman was one of the many Jewish prisoners to receive exceptionally harsh treatment in Argentine military jails decorated with Swastikas and other Nazi symbols.

Yet Argentina was able to acquire over twenty Nasher fighter jets from Israel in 1982, the year of the Falklands war, with more Israeli weapons and supplies secretly transferred through Peru.

It also used Israeli-supplied Skyhawk jets to sink four British warships, including the Sir Galahad, which resulted in the deaths of 48 soldiers.

Declassified files now reveal how Israel repeatedly misled the UK government about its military support to Argentina, provoking a diplomatic crisis between both countries.

The Foreign Office responded by leaking information about Israel’s activities to the British press and summoning Israeli diplomats to explain themselves. So distrustful were UK officials of their Israeli counterparts that they suspected the embassy in Tel Aviv had been bugged.

Yet Britain’s protests fell on deaf ears. While the Israeli government had little regard for Argentina’s claim to the Falklands (even in contrast to several British officials), it had a burgeoning arms market in Latin America to protect.

This meant that Israel sold weapons to some of the region’s most brutal regimes during the 1970s and 1980s. “Since when has ideology had anything to do with the sale of arms?”, one Israeli official retorted when asked about arming Argentina.

Israel carried out more strikes on southern Lebanon, the heartland of Hezbollah, on April 3 causing material losses and damage.

Early in the morning, Israeli drones attacked with at least three munitions a newly established center of the Islamic Health Authority, a Lebanese Civil Defense organization affiliated with Hezbollah, close to the key coastal town of Naqoura.

The attack completely destroyed the center and damaged two ambulances as well as a fire truck, the organization said in a statement, adding that “this aggression is part of a series of daily violations and attacks, as the Israeli enemy continues its criminal activities that began in its last war on Lebanon.”

Israeli Lawsuits Target Americans: A New Threat to the First Amendment Under Trump

Awave of lawsuits filed by Israeli plaintiffs against pro-Palestinian American citizens, advocacy groups, and media outlets is paving the way for the AIPAC-backed “nonprofit killer bill” to take effect. The claims—largely unsubstantiated—appear designed to justify what critics say could amount to a near-total shutdown of political expression around the Israeli-Palestinian issue.

On Monday, the latest in a series of legal actions targeted the prominent New York-based activist group Within Our Lifetime, as well as the Columbia University chapters of Jewish Voice for Peace and Students for Justice in Palestine. According to plaintiff Shlomi Ziv, the groups were allegedly funded by Hamas.

Ziv, who was previously held captive in Gaza and worked as a security guard on October 7, 2023, claims that his captors told him they were financing student groups at Columbia. The accusation is based entirely on hearsay. Still, the lawsuit’s intent appears clearly aimed at dismantling the student movement at Columbia.

The complaint even names Mahmoud Khalil, a U.S. permanent resident and pro-Palestine activist now in detention, who is facing deportation under an order from Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Khalil’s alleged offense: exercising his First Amendment rights. Despite pro-Israel organizations accusing him of supporting Hamas, the most the Canary Mission—a group notorious for doxxing and smearing college students—could produce was a video showing Khalil standing near someone chanting, “From the river to the sea.”

This is not Ziv’s first legal foray. In February, he and two other Israeli former hostages refiled an amended complaint against the U.S.-based media outlet Palestine Chronicle after their original case was dismissed for lack of evidence.

The new lawsuit, filed in federal court in Washington state, is backed by the National Jewish Advocacy Center, led by Mark Goldfeder—a former advisor to Israel’s permanent mission to the United Nations. Goldfeder’s organization has attempted similar lawsuits, including one against the Associated Press for allegedly providing “material support for terrorism,” as well as cases targeting UNRWA-USA and Students for Justice in Palestine.

In the suit against Palestine Chronicle, Ziv claims that contributor Abdallah AlJamal was a Hamas operative who held Israeli captives in his home. Based on that allegation, Ziv argues that the outlet provided material support for terrorism by publishing AlJamal’s work. When Israeli forces killed AlJamal and several family members, CNN reported that Israeli officials offered no evidence for their claim that he was a Hamas fighter.
