My mom was born in 1924. She and her 2 older brothers were all born at home.
Then 12 years later, in 1936, my grandmother got pregnant again. The doctor told her that he would not assist a home birth. He told my grandma that she had to go to the hospital to have her baby. My mom told me that my Grandmother thought that was ridiculous to go to a hospital to have a baby. But she did it because that is what her doctor told her to do.
I'm wondering now if the doctors were told to do this because of birth certificates being issued at the hospitals.
