‘I am Marine’: Europe’s far right slams Le Pen’s conviction, election ban
European far-right leaders from Hungary's PM Viktor Orban to the Netherlands' Geert Wilders rallied in support of their French ally Marine Le Pen on Monday, expressing shock and anger at her conviction for embezzlement in France, which will bar the National Rally figurehead from a fourth presidential run in 2027.
"Je suis Marine!" ("I am Marine!"), Hungarian nationalist leader Viktor Orban posted in French on X, in reference to the rallying cry "Je suis Charlie" widely used in support of the Charlie Hebdo satirical newspaper after it was attacked by Islamist gunmen in 2015.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the verdict reinforced the view put out by Moscow that "more and more European capitals are going down the path of violating democratic norms".
Monday's court sentence declares Le Pen ineligible to stand for president in 2027 and gave her a four-year prison sentence – half of it suspended – for embezzlement of European parliament funds.
Although her lawyer later said she will appeal the conviction, Le Pen supporters at home and abroad criticised Monday's ruling against her.
'Shock'
Le Pen will not serve time in prison. Two years of her sentence were suspended and the other two are to be served outside jail with an electronic bracelet, the court ruled.
RN leader Jordan Bardella said on X that Le Pen, his mentor, was the victim of an "unjust" verdict and claimed that French democracy was being "executed".
Dutch far-right politician Geert Wilders also voiced shock at the ruling.
"I am shocked by the incredibly tough verdict against (Le Pen). I support and believe in her for the full 100 percent and I trust she will win the appeal and become President of France," Wilders posted in English on X.
Spain's far-right Vox leader Santiago Abascal also offered his support, posting on X: "They will never succeed to silence the voice of the French people."
Abascal hosted Le Pen, Orban and other far right leaders in Madrid in February.
Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik said on X that "just like in my case, the verdict was not about the law – it was about politics".
Dodik was convicted last month for defying the international envoy tasked with overseeing the peace accords that ended Bosnia's civil war in the 1990s.

A female disc golfer took a stand and refused to compete against a transgender-identifying opponent, explaining that females in their division “must be protected.”
Abigail Wilson, who was set to compete at the Disc Golf Pro Tour’s (DGPT) MVP Music City Open event in Nashville, Tennessee, was seen walking up as if she were competing. According to Fox News, Wilson then “wound up her toss and flung her arm forward, but didn’t let go of the disc. ”
In a video posted to Instagram, after Wilson turned around to face the crowd, and explained that she was refusing to play.
“Females must be protected in our division,” Wilson said. “This is unfair. I refuse to play.”
“Today, I refused to play at the Music City Open. Females deserve to have their gender protected division be protected,” Wilson wrote in her post. “This is unfair. I have worked so hard to get to this point to play on the DGPT, but the sacrifice of my career and my hard work is worth it if it means I can make a difference for other women, daughters, nieces, and the future of our sport.”
Wilson added that if people “feel how wrong it is to have biological males” competing in women’s “protected divisions in sports, now is the time to speak up.”
“I took this stand today because I was having anxiety about playing with the openly trans player on tour because of the planned protests for this year and the threats of violence at the event last year,” Wilson continued to explain. “After speaking with a member of the DGPT staff yesterday they made it clear they would be unwilling to change me to an earlier tee time when regarding my fears of safety on the course.”
Per Fox News, Wilson’s opponent was Natalie Ryan, who “first garnered attention in September 2022 after winning the women’s division at the Discraft Great Lakes Open.”

We encourage players to do what they think is right, and Ms. Wilson is welcome to compete on the same playing field as all other players.”
According to the Professional Disc Golf Association’s (PDGA) policies, transgender athletes “who were assigned male gender at birth and are taking hormone replacement therapy and/or testosterone suppression medication related to gender transition or who have undergone gender affirming surgery” are allowed to compete if they meet certain criteria such as “taking continuous hormone therapy” for at least 24 months “before competing,” and keep their testosterone levels below a certain level.

I have discovered another shocking conflict of interest involving Judge James Boasberg, who recently threatened to hold Trump administration officials in contempt for failing to provide flight information related to the deportation of illegal Venezuelan gang members belonging to the notorious Tren de Aragua gang. The judge’s brother, Tom Boasberg, a fluent Chinese speaker and former superintendent of Denver Public Schools (DPS) for a decade, hired illegal aliens on DACA to teach in Colorado schools during his tenure.
A review of Tom Boasberg’s professional background reveals he was an associate at Covington & Burling. On February 25, 2025, President Donald J. Trump signed a memorandum to suspend security clearances for Covington & Burling LLP employees involved in the weaponization of government, pending a review of their roles and responsibility in the weaponization of the judicial process.
Adding to the controversy, the US State Department @StateDept is currently promoting the Singapore American School, where Tom Boasberg now serves as superintendent, on its official website. This raises questions about the government’s endorsement of an institution led by an individual with a history of employing undocumented immigrants.
Colorado has seen a significant presence of the Tren de Aragua Venezuelan gang, with ICE actively searching for members who have reportedly taken over apartment complexes in the state while illegally possessing high-powered weapons.

The US-led alliance will not send peacekeepers to Ukraine, Mark Rutte has said
NATO is not involved in the US-mediated ceasefire negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, Secretary General Mark Rutte has said. He added that considering Kiev’s bid to join the bloc has never been a part of a potential peace deal.
During an interview with Ukraine’s New Voice, published on Saturday, Rutte was asked if NATO had any “red lines” in the negotiations to end the Ukraine conflict.
“We do not have our own red lines, because we are not part of that,” Rutte said. “We are not part, as NATO, of those negotiations. They are really driven by the US, together with Ukraine and the Russians. I’m glad that the US has broken the deadlock, that these talks are now ongoing,” he added.
Rutte ruled out NATO itself sending peacekeepers to Ukraine. “Probably it will not be NATO as such. That’s not very likely,” he said, while adding that individual member states could dispatch troops on their own. “That always means that it has an impact on NATO territory. It might have an impact on the defense of NATO territory also, going forward.”
Several NATO members, including France, the UK, and Germany, have floated proposals to deploy peacekeepers after a ceasefire is reached.
Rutte stressed that Ukraine’s aspiration to join the bloc has not been tied to the ongoing talks. “It has never been promised to Ukraine that NATO membership will be part of a peace deal or a ceasefire,” he said. “These are two separate things, a peace deal and the long-term prospect.”
US President Donald Trump reiterated this week that Ukraine will “never be a member of NATO.” Russia has cited NATO’s expansion eastward as one of the core reasons for the conflict, and demanded that Ukraine drop its plans to join the alliance.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has rejected the deployment of troops from NATO members in Ukraine in any capacity as unacceptable.

The EU is facing 20 percent tariffs on exports to the US following President Donald Trump's announcement of widespread global tariffs on Wednesday.
French President Emmanuel Macron called on Thursday for European companies to suspend planned investment in the United States after US President Donald Trump announced sweeping global tariffs on American imports.
"Investments to come or investments announced in recent weeks should be suspended until things are clarified with the United States," Macron said during a meeting with French industry representatives.
"What would be the message if big European actors invest billions of euros in the US economy at the very moment they are hitting us?" he asked.
Trump's Wednesday move to slap a 10 percent tariff on most US imports, and higher levies on trading partners with whom the country has a higher trade deficit, effectively raised the rate of levies on the European Union to 20 percent and on China to 54 percent.
Macron said Americans will be "weaker and poorer" after Trump's tariff announcement, which he described as "brutal and unfounded" and would have a "massive impact" on the European economy.
The comments come weeks after French shipping firm CMA CGM announced plans to invest $20 billion in the US to build shipping logistics and terminals, a plan that was hailed by Trump at the time, and mentioned again in his Wednesday speech unveiling the tariffs.
French electrical equipment supplier Schneider Electric said late last month it would invest $700 million in the country to support US energy infrastructure to power AI growth.
Neither company immediately responded to requests for comment on Macron's proposal.
Macron said no response to Trump's tariffs had been ruled out yet and suggested using the anti-coercion mechanism, an EU instrument to protect the bloc's trade, and responses targeting digital services and financing mechanisms of the US economy.
Macron added that the response to the reciprocal tariffs would be "more powerful" than its earlier retaliation to US steel and aluminium tariffs.

Venezuela Charges Deported TikTok ‘Migrant Influencer’ with ‘Hate Crimes’
Leonel Moreno, the now-deported Venezuelan illegal migrant “TikTok influencer” who taught other illegal migrants how to break into American homes on social media, will be prosecuted for “hate crimes” and child exploitation, Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced Thursday.
The Venezuelan Public Ministry made the announcement on its official Instagram account. In the statement, Saab said Moreno published “criminal content inciting hatred against Venezuelan citizens” through social media.
“Saab pointed out that he also uses his underage daughter, thus defiling his own family in order to profit illicitly,” the statement read.
Moreno is a 27-year-old Venezuelan national who illegally migrated to the United States in 2022. He was originally apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol at Eagle Pass, Texas, on April 23, 2022, before being released into U.S. territory as per the “catch and release” policies of the administration of former U.S. President Joe Biden. Moreno was ultimately deported back to Venezuela on March 28.
During his illegal stay in the United States, Moreno and his now-defunct TikTok account “Leito Oficial” became infamous for its videos teaching illegal migrants how to break into abandoned American homes and claim “squatter’s rights.” Moreno also repeatedly gloated about the thousands of U.S. dollars in financial aid that he allegedly received from the U.S. government through his daughter, a U.S.-born child.
Moreno claimed in his videos that he had no need to work thanks to the stipends allegedly provided to his child and emphasized that “the trick is to have children in the United States.”
In another video, addressed to Venezuelan women either pregnant or planning to have a child in the United States, Moreno claimed that the corresponding hospital bills for said births “will be automatically paid thanks to Papa Biden.”
“Thanks to Papa Biden, resources are well managed. And every tax, every penny you pay, young Venezuelan, is in good hands, capisce,” Moreno said. “Today we have used the taxes of many Venezuelans who are doing things right. Because this is a chain, capisce? Thanks to the fact that I received citizenship with my wife for my American citizen daughter, I will also start paying taxes.”
“But when I work. In the meantime, I will keep asking for money. Unless I also have to ask for money to pay for taxes. capisce? Well, I don’t think so. It’s better to ask for money because I’m not really going to pay for taxes just like that,” he continued. “When I start working with my papers, then I’m going to start paying taxes for the next Baby Jungle [U.S.-born children of illegal migrants] that wants to enter the United States. Since 2017, the Venezuelan Maduro regime has an active “anti-hate speech” law that the ruling socialists have used to persecute and imprison individuals and dissidents for allegedly spreading “hateful” content. The Maduro regime deliberately wrote the law with an ambiguous definition of what constitutes “hate speech” in Venezuela.
Hours before the Public Ministry’s official announcement, Diosdado Cabello, Venezuela’s interior minister — and a long-suspected drug lord actively wanted by U.S. authorities — said on his socialist talk show Hitting with the Mallet that Moreno will be processed for “hate crimes” under local law because “he did a lot of damage to Venezuelans with his aptitude in the United States.”
Cabello reiterated on his show that Moreno was “protected by us” at the time of his return to Venezuela because many of the Venezuelan deportees that came on the same plane “wanted to eat him alive.”
“That gentleman arrived on the flight that came from the United States. It has been proven, it is public and notorious, the campaign that that gentleman had against Venezuelans; several have filed complaints through the agencies and that person is now being prosecuted in Venezuela for the crimes committed against Venezuelans contemplated in the Law Against Hate,” Cabello said.
Video footage of Moreno’s arrival at the Simón Bolívar International Airport published by Venezuelan outlets showed Moreno being escorted by masked members of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB). At press time, no official from the Venezuelan socialist regime has disclosed Moreno’s actual whereabouts.
The Venezuelan newspaper El Nacional reported on Thursday that, according to lawyer and former prosecutor Zair Mundaray, Moreno was allegedly transferred on Monday to the Helicoide (“The Helix”), an unfinished drive-through shopping mall from the 1960s that currently serves as one of the Maduro regime’s largest and most infamous torture centers.
