HUSSEIN

Which ONE? Both C_A. Both MUSLIM. Hellooo…

The Ba'ath Party was originally represented in Qasim's cabinet; however, Qasim—reluctant to join Nasser's newly formed union between Egypt and Syria—sided with various groups within Iraq (notably the social democrats and the Iraqi Communist Party) that told him such an action would be dangerous. Instead, Qasim adopted a wataniyah policy of "Iraq First".[27][28] To strengthen his own position within the government, Qasim also had an alliance with the Iraqi Communist Party (ICP), which was opposed to the notion of pan-Arabism.[29] His policies angered several pan-Arab organisations, including the Ba'ath Party, which later began plotting to assassinate Qasim at Al-Rashid Street on 7 October 1959 and take power. Saddam was recruited to the assassination conspiracy by its ring-leader, Abdul Karim al-Shaikhly, after one of the would-be assassins left.[30] During the ambush, Saddam (who was only supposed to provide cover) began shooting prematurely, which disorganised the whole operation. Qasim's chauffeur was killed and Qasim was hit in the arm and shoulder. The assassins thought they had killed Qasim and quickly retreated to their headquarters, but Qasim survived.[30] Saddam himself is not believed to have received any training outside of Iraq, as he was a late addition to the assassination team.[31]

Richard Sale of United Press International (UPI), citing former United States diplomat and intelligence officials, Adel Darwish, and other experts, reported that the unsuccessful assassination attempt on Qasim was a collaboration between the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Egyptian intelligence.[32] Pertinent contemporary records relating to CIA operations in Iraq have remained classified or heavily redacted, thus "allow[ing] for plausible deniability."[33] It is generally accepted that Egypt, in some capacity, was involved in the assassination attempt, and that "[t]he United States was working with Nasser on some level

During his rule, Iraq retained a substantial Jewish community, around 15,000.[82][83] During the early years of the Ba'ath rule, Jews were initially oppressed under the government.[84] Saddam was given the charge of publicly hanging 13 men, including many Jews.[84] They were accused by the government of spying for Israel.[84] However, according to several reports, this was lesser than the harsh treatment by previous regimes. Later government abolished its repressive policies on Jews.[84] In November 1975, the government issued a decree inviting Jews back to Iraq, who were expelled.[84] The Israeli government panned the decree by calling it political propaganda.[84] Only a few Jewish families returned to Iraq.[84] Treatment later improved, and the Jews were protected and treated well by Saddam.[85][86] He reportedly helped an estimated 150 remaining Jews to leave the country.

CRISPR gene editing in humans, using the CRISPR-Cas9 system, offers the potential to precisely modify DNA to treat or even cure genetic diseases, but also raises ethical concerns and potential risks.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

What is CRISPR-Cas9?

CRISPR-Cas9 is a revolutionary gene-editing technology that acts like a pair of molecular scissors, allowing scientists to precisely cut DNA at specific locations.

This technology can be used to modify, insert, or delete DNA sequences, enabling researchers to manipulate genes and potentially correct genetic defects.

The "CRISPR" part refers to a naturally occurring DNA sequence that helps bacteria identify and destroy foreign DNA, while "Cas9" is a protein that acts as the molecular scissors.

Calm Down.

You're hooked up on a specific name.

It's what you DON'T KNOW.

Ever wonder how MKUltra worked so easily on some? Do you know every chemical slipped into your body? And how it got there?

As early as the 1960s, scientists speculated that DNA sequences could be introduced into patients’ cells to cure genetic disorders. In the early 1980s, David Williams, MD, and David Nathan, MD, at Boston Children’s Hospital published the first paper showing one could use a virus to insert genes into blood-forming stem cells. In 2003, the Human Genome Project wrapped up, giving us a complete blueprint of our DNA. In the past decade, gene therapy has become a reality for multiple diseases, especially those caused by mutations in a single gene.

Gene therapy falls into two main categories. Ex vivo gene therapy removes cells from the patient, introduces new genetic material, packaged in a delivery vehicle called a vector, then returns the cells to the patient. Boston Children’s is using this method for such disorders as sickle cell disease, adrenoleukodystrophy, chronic granulomatous disease and others. In vivo gene therapy involves direct IV infusion of the vector into the bloodstream or injection into a target organ like the eye. Boston Children’s uses in vivo gene therapy for several disorders, including hemophilia and ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency.

After a rocky start, gene therapy is on fire, drawing keen interest from the biopharmaceutical industry. And it’s still evolving and improving.

Gene therapy 1.0: First introduction of corrected genes

In 1990, 4-year-old Ashanthi de Silva became the first gene therapy success story. She was born with a severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) due to lack of the enzyme adenosine deaminase (ADA). Without ADA, her T cells died off, leaving her unable to fight infections. Injections of a synthetic ADA enzyme helped, but only temporarily.
