House Democrats Playing With Fire by Threatening Trump Impeachment

Did Trump voters just get some 2026 incentive?

Rep. Al Green (D-TX) is back to his political theatrics. This weekend, during one of the Democratic Party’s orchestrated anti-Trump protests, the Texas lawmaker revealed his intentions to file articles of impeachment against Donald Trump within the next 30 days. Green, who was recently censured for disrupting the president’s March 4 address to a joint session of Congress, directed a lot of his speech at the Donald himself, saying: “You don’t deserve the office you hold.”

Green portrays himself as a defender of democracy, yet he seems to have decided he can disregard the will of a majority of American voters by proclaiming the man they elected to lead the country as undeserving of his position. When Green and his fellow Democrats speak of democracy, that well-known line from the movie The Princess Bride springs to mind: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

Another Weaponized Impeachment

The Texas representative was not specific about the “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors” President Trump has supposedly committed. That hardly matters, though. Back in 2016 and in January of 2017, before Trump had even been sworn into office, several Democrats vowed to impeach him. No crime or transgression is needed, then. Trump’s opponents already showed that, for them, impeachment is not about accountability – it is a political weapon. Just as with the two impeachments of Trump during his first term, any reason will do.

“You can’t be entrusted with liberty and justice for all,” Green told the demonstrators in Washington, DC, regarding the current president. “You can’t be entrusted with government of the people by the people for the people. I’m coming for you.”

Green’s problem, of course, is that there is no chance of impeachment succeeding while Republicans control both the House and the Senate. And the congressman is aware of this. Still, he knows that his impeachment articles will hang over Trump’s head until the 2026 midterm elections.

When Rep. Green speaks, though, it is usually more about himself than anything or anyone else. One might wonder if he suffers from what is clinically known as hero syndrome or hero complex, defined as “a psychological phenomenon which causes a person to seek recognition for heroism.” Most victims of this very real disorder usually attempt what they see as heroic acts to gain the recognition they crave. Green seems to be under the impression that criticizing and obstructing Trump is a personal act of heroism.

At the DC rally, the Texan first rambled about why he carried a cane before drawing a bizarre comparison between today’s political divisions and the biblical confrontation between David and Goliath. “We need a Senate that will convict [Trump] this time,” he said, “and I want you to know, from my heart, from my heart, I understand that he is a Goliath. He is a Goliath. He has control of the generals in the military. He has control of the Justice Department. He has control of the Republican Party, but my friends, my friends, for every Goliath, there is a David.”

Choosing the Wrong Hill to Die On?

The turnout for these astroturf demonstrations probably didn’t cause concern among Republicans or in the Trump White House. The only sizable rallies materialized in deep blue cities – another indication that this isn’t some nationwide grassroots uprising against the 47th president. In New York City, which saw about 1.9 million residents turn out in November to vote for Kamala Harris, barely 10,000 took to the streets to protest the Trump agenda.

Staggering under the weight of a roundly rejected ideology and historically low approval ratings, are the Democrats really doing themselves any favors by threatening yet another impeachment? Polling shows that Trump’s policy decisions have largely been well received by a majority of Americans. Will those same people want to see Democrats, should they win control of the House in 2026, sabotage the Trump agenda and waste everyone’s time with impeachment proceedings?

If, by some astounding turn of events, Democrats were to win enough Senate seats to convict and remove President Trump, would they not be overturning the will of the people, as expressed at the ballot box? Will they not have become the threat to democracy they keep warning about? Nothing will likely drive Republican voters to the booths in 2026 more than a determination to ensure Democrats do not take the House majority required for impeachment.

There’s an even worse scenario for Trump’s opponents if they do manage to evict him from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue before his term is over. Would they not be setting up Vice President JD Vance to take Trump’s case to an exasperated public, thereby very likely securing the White House for Republicans in 2028?

JD Vance Fulfills Convention Promise, Celebrates Mom’s 10 Years of Sobriety at the White House

Vice President JD Vance fulfilled a promise he made at the Republican National Convention this past summer, celebrating his mother's 10th sobriety anniversary at the White House.

It is a truly inspiring and heartwarming story.

Vance's mother, Beverly "Bev" Aikins, plays a significant role in his memoir "Hillbilly Elegy," where she is portrayed as a complex and troubled figure whose struggles profoundly shaped Vance’s life.

In the book, she is described as a woman caught in a cycle of instability, addiction, and personal turmoil, which mirrors some of the broader challenges he attributes to the "hillbilly" community.

In the 2020 Netflix film adaptation of "Hillbilly Elegy," directed by Ron Howard, Bev is played by Amy Adams.

Vance introduced the real Bev to America at the RNC, where she received a standing ovation.

"I'm proud to say that tonight, my mom is here, 10 years clean and sober. I love you, Mom," Vance said as the cheers cascaded down from the crowd in attendance.

Chants of "JD's mom" could be heard echoing in the arena. That's when Vance had an idea.

"You know, Mom, I was thinking. It will be 10 years officially in January 2025. If President Trump is okay with that, let's have the celebration in the White House," he said.

Journalist Salena Zito reports that Vance, happily, has now been able to fulfill that promise.

“Well, here we are. And you made it, and we made it. And most importantly, you're celebrating a very, very big milestone," the Vice President said, according to Zito. "And I'm just very proud of you.”

The journalist posted accompanying pictures from the moment captured in the Roosevelt Room of the White House.

The White House also announced Aikins' significant accomplishment, including a note that she received her 10-year medallion.

On Friday, April 4, Beverly Aikins, mother to Vice President JD Vance, celebrated her 10th year of sobriety in a Roosevelt Room ceremony with friends and family members. During the ceremony, Ms. Aikins received her 10-year medallion.

Ms. Aikins, a nurse at an addiction recovery center in the Cincinnati area, devotes her life to her family and to helping Americans who are struggling with addiction. In a 2024 interview, Ms. Aikins said her message to people battling addiction is, “to reach out, to try to get help, and that recovery is hard, but it’s so worth it.”

Reaction to the touching moment was universally in awe of Bev Aikins' life achievement.

"A full-circle moment. Not just for her, but for the millions of moms who fought like hell to give their kids a better life," writes podcast producer James Laverty.

"Who dreamed of something more, even when the world gave them every reason to quit. Not perfection, but a fight," he added. "And she lives to see the other side, the dreams realized."

Sure it was Trump’s day and Barron’s official if nonverbal coming out to the world, but to me the Vances were the story - and the future. On January 20th, 2025, Aikins took a prominent place at the U.S. Capitol for the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump and her son, JD. Clad in a striking red outfit, she stood alongside Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, witnessing the historic moment as her son was sworn in as Vice President of the United States.

As RedState reporter Jennifer O'Connell writes, Vance's mother and her story "will give opioid addiction and recovery a powerful push forward."

This is what emerging out the other side of addiction looks like.

A full-circle moment indeed.

this is what happens when you bitchslap the real bully in the room with 54% duties / tarriffs, they whine about it!

Better that Ukrainians don’t know the truth – Kiev’s spy chief

General Kirill Budanov has said people should remain unaware of the “harsh reality” of the conflict with Russia

China has described new US tariffs as “bullying,” arguing that they threaten to undermine the stability of the global economic order and escalate trade tensions between the world's two largest economies.

Commenting on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian condemned Washington’s decision to impose a 34% tariff on Chinese exports to the US on top of an existing 20% levy, bringing total duties to at least 54%.

The tariffs are “unilateralism, protectionism, and economic bullying,” Lin told a regular press conference, adding that they “seriously impact the stability of the global economic order.”

China's Finance Ministry declared on Friday that it would impose a matching 34% tariff on all US goods, set to take effect on April 10. Beijing has also filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The escalating trade dispute has had immediate repercussions on global financial markets, sending European, US and Asian stocks tumbling. Economists have raised concerns about the potential for a global recession, with Goldman Sachs increasing the probability of a recession in the US to 45% in the next 12 months.

The US has taken the wrong approach to tackling its domestic economic issues such as insufficient manufacturing competitiveness, an editorial in the Global Times newspaper suggested on Monday.

Rather than addressing the issues through reforms, the US government is “shirking responsibility” and “shifting blame” by resorting to tariff hikes, wrote the paper.

Beijing’s countermeasures are aimed at “demonstrating its firm resolve” not to tolerate the “reckless violation” of global trade rules by the US, it added.

Better that Ukrainians don’t know the truth – Kiev’s spy chief

Many Ukrainians cannot handle the “harsh reality” of the conflict with Russia and should be kept in the dark about the details, Kiev’s military intelligence chief has said.

Three-star general Kirill Budanov expressed his views on information censorship during wartime in a conversation with journalist Anna Maksimchuk on Saturday, suggesting that much of the truth of the conflict should only become public knowledge to Ukrainians in the future.

”During wartime, knowing the whole truth is not necessary. Otherwise, people may develop opinions,” Budanov said. “Some minds are not prepared to grasp the harsh reality. Let’s not put them to the test. Everything should be dosed.”

Since 2020, Budanov has led the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry (HUR) – an agency reportedly rebuilt from scratch by the CIA following the 2014 armed coup in Kiev to serve as a tool against Russia.

Prior to the escalation of hostilities with Russia in 2022, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky cracked down on critical media, claiming to do so in order to fight against local oligarchs under Moscow’s influence.

During the conflict, Kiev launched a news marathon with programming said to be directly controlled by the president’s office – which critics have called state propaganda. Additionally, under martial law, Zelensky banned several opposition parties, claiming they posed a national security threat.

Earlier this year, turmoil swept through Ukraine’s media landscape following US President Donald Trump’s decision to dismantle the US Agency for International Development (USAID), an organization used by Washington to promote its political agenda through foreign grants.

Researcher Oksana Romanyuk estimated in January that nearly 90% of Ukrainian outlets relied on foreign aid, with 80% specifically receiving funding from USAID.

France Warns EU Could Take ‘Extremely Aggressive’ Actions in Response to Trump Tariffs

France’s trade minister said the European Union’s response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs could be “extremely aggressive” amid increasingly heated rhetoric from Paris.

Speaking ahead of crunch talks in Luxembourg, French Minister of Foreign Trade Laurent Saint-Martin said that Brussels must consider all options in the trade dispute with the United States.

“We must not exclude any option, on goods, on (American) services and open the European toolbox, which is very complete, which can also be extremely aggressive in return,” the minister said per Le Figaro.

Saint-Martin pointed to “anti-coercion” measures within the EU code, which he said could freeze access to European public markets or even prevent U.S. companies from investing in the trading bloc.

The comments from the trade minister back up similar comments from Paris in response to what the Trump administration has characterised as “reciprocal tariffs” intended to rectify the trade restrictions and tariffs imposed by the EU and other nations on American exports.

Last week, President Emmanuel Macron called for French firms to suspend investments in the United States amid the trade dispute.

This was echoed over the weekend by Economy Minister Éric Lombard, who said that French companies should show “patriotism” by not investing in America, saying: “It is clear that if a large French company agreed to open a factory in the United States, it would give the Americans a point.”

In contrast to the dramatic proclamations from Paris, neighbouring Germany, which has suffered more economically since the Ukraine war and whose critical auto industry has already been left reeling by the energy crisis and the influx of cheap Chinese EVs, has urged for more caution in dealing with the Trump White House.

Speaking from Berlin on Monday, government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that Europe should not react emotionally to the Trump tariffs.

“We don’t want to bring about a trade war, but the goal should be to further reduce trade barriers,” he said, but added that Germany will seek to “protect our domestic companies from what other extensions come.”

While Germany and France represent the two largest economies in Europe and thus have considerable sway over EU policy, the ultimate decision-making process on trade will be conducted in Brussels.

The EU’s top trade envoy, Maroš Šefčovič, said that the Trump administration’s reciprocal tariffs demonstrated a “paradigm shift” in the trading relationship between the United States and Europe. The Slovak diplomat said that Brussels will seek to provide “adequate support” to prop up European industries and simultaneously move to “accelerate” trade talks with the rest of the world.

The comments came as European and other global markets were rattled as they opened on Monday, with the pan-European Eurostoxx 600 index falling by approximately five per cent as of midday.

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Sunday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that the short-term pain of market contractions would be worth the long-term gains made by incentivising businesses to reshore industries to America.

“I don’t want anything to go down, but sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something — and we have been treated so badly by other countries,” he said.

President Trump claimed that seven trillion dollars have already been “committed to be invested in the United States” as a result of the tariffs, including to build auto plants and chip companies.

“What is going to happen with the market, I can’t tell you, but I can tell you that our country has gotten a lot stronger and eventually, it will be a country like no other. It will be the most dominant country economically in the world.”
