Douglas Murray: "A SECRET Plan Is Threatening Europe As We Speak!"

‘Student grade rebellion’: Douglas Murray mocks ‘weak’ anti-Trump filibuster

Author Douglas Murray claims filibusters are the “weakest form of politics” after Democratic Senator Cory Booker spoke for a record 25 hours against President Donald Trump.

“As everyone knows, filibusters are effectively the weakest form of politics. They don’t rely on argument, they don’t rely on persuasion, they don’t rely on reason – they rely on a kind of rhetorical brute force,” Mr Murray told Sky News host Rita Panahi.

“It’s a feat … but it is also a defeat – it’s a defeat because the democrats should be coming up with their own arguments and their own policies.

“It’s not even politics … it’s just a sort of student grade rebellion.”

NC Supreme Court suspends 15-day deadline for voters Judge Griffin is challenging

Mon, April 7, 2025 at 4:48 PM EDT

The state’s highest court has temporarily blocked an order that would have set a deadline for more than 60,000 voters to prove their eligibility to vote in last November’s Supreme Court race.

In a 2-1 decision Friday, a state Appeals Court panel agreed with Republican Appeals Court Judge Jefferson Griffin that the state Board of Elections should not have counted votes from more than 60,000 people whose registration showed up as incomplete in the state’s database or from more than 5,500 military and overseas absentee voters.

Griffin is trying to unseat incumbent Democratic Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs. He trails by 734 votes. Her lead was confirmed in two recounts. He wants votes thrown out so he can win the seat.

The Appeals Court said the elections board should be required to notify voters Griffin is targeting that their ballots need to be corrected if they want them to count. Voters would have had 15 business days from the time notices were sent to either complete their registration with a partial Social Security number or a partial driver’s license number, or, if they were military or civilian overseas absentee voters, to supply a copy of a photo ID.

After Griffin filed his challenges, many voters came forward to say the identification numbers they provided on their registration forms did not show up in the database due to mismatches or typos.

The electronic portal most overseas voters use provides no means of submitting ID with their ballots.

Riggs and the Board of Elections asked for a temporary stay of the Appeals Court order.

In his motion, Riggs’ lawyer emphasized the confusion the 15-day deadline would cause.

“It is impossible to predict the full scope of confusion that could result from this 15-day cure process if implemented before this Court’s review,” the petition says.

“Further, the Court of Appeals’ “cure” remedy will be inadequate to prevent the disenfranchisement of thousands of North Carolina voters. There can be no doubt that tens of thousands of voters—through no fault of their own—will be unable to cure their registrations or ballots in time.”

Griffin’s lawsuit is headed to the Supreme Court, where Republicans hold a 5-2 majority. Riggs has recused herself.

Three of the Republican justices, in previous decisions in the case, have expressed support for Griffin’s positions. In the case of a 3-3 tie in the Supreme Court, the Appeals Court decision would stand.

Brussels police arrest Rubio security detail supervisor after hotel fight

Tom RoganApril 7, 2025 2:00 pm

Speaking on condition of anonymity, two sources with direct knowledge of the situation told the Washington Examinerthat the agent in question was behaving erratically and became irate when hotel staff refused to reopen the bar beyond its normal hours. When staff, including the night manager, attempted to persuade the agent to return to his room, the agent became physically aggressive. Police were then called. The agent engaged in an altercation with numerous police officers, leading to his arrest. The agent was released from police custody later that day after intervention by the U.S. Embassy.

Four sources told the Washington Examiner thatRubio’s protective detail is under severe strain and has been stretched to a near-breaking point by senior leadership. One source provided explicit examples of how resource stretches have led to vulnerabilities in protection. One State Department employee observed that “shift supervisors [on Rubio’s detail] have an incomprehensible workload. They are responsible for all the agents under them, scheduling, evaluations and a preposterous amount of admin work [as well as] performing the actual shift work. They work 6 to 7 days a week. I truly believe this [incident] was the result of incomprehensible strain[the agent] was placed under and, at the very least, [Diplomatic Security Service] owes [the agent] a very fair evaluation of these circumstances in their totality – looking deep into [DSS’s] own role [in what happened].”

A State Department spokesman told the Washington Examiner, “The Diplomatic Security Service is aware of allegations of an incident involving an employee in Brussels, Belgium on March 31, 2025.While we don’t discuss specific personnel matters, the allegations are being examined.” The Belgian Embassy in Washington, D.C., did not respond to a request for comment. Brussels police initially said, “Are you requesting confirmation of the arrest? Please note that we cannot provide details about the circumstances,” but failed to respond to follow-up inquiries. The Hotel Amigo and its ownership did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

DSS is responsible for protecting American diplomats and diplomatic compounds around the world and investigating crimes such as passport and visa fraud. But while once regarded as a highly prestigious law enforcement agency, DSS has suffered several embarrassments in recent years.

As the Washington Examiner has reported, these incidents have included numerous leadership failures. Field operations have also suffered. In December 2022, agents assigned to a full-time protective detail for former Trump administration U.S. Special Representative to Iran Brian Hook failed to prevent the theft of two of his vehicles from his driveway. One of those vehicles was later used in a homicide in Washington, D.C. Four active or recently retired DSS employees have told the Washington Examiner they believe one problem is the tendency of more senior agents to refuse to join or support “hump agent” domestic protective details alongside more junior agents. Last November, DSS agents on a protection detail for U.K. Foreign Secretary David Lammy were instrumental in detaining a serial killer in New York City. The agents responsible felt let down when leadership failed to give them due credit.

Further, unlike local U.S. law enforcement agencies supporting security at last summer’s Paris Olympic Games, DSS failed to secure authorization for its agents protecting American athletes at the Games to carry firearms. DSS has also attracted controversy for expensive diversity, equity, and inclusion-related trips under former DSS Director Carlos Matus. Matus now serves as DSS’s senior-most official as the acting assistant secretary of state for diplomatic security. Correspondence seen by the Washington Examiner and conversations with both active and former DSS agents indicate that Matus has repeatedly failed to clarify for DSS personnel how their jobs and responsibilities may be affected by Trump administration policy changes. This includes a failure to respond regarding specific concerns raised by the DSS president for the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.

There is no indication that the incident on Monday caused Rubio’s security to be compromised.

Still, it has reinforced sentiments inside and outside of DSS that it is only a matter of time until a protective mission failure occurs.

Microsoft terminates jobs of engineers who protested use of AI products by Israel’s military

Hayden Field

Former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, right, chats with actor Brenda Song during an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of Microsoft, in Redmond, Washington, April 4, 2025.

Microsoft terminated the employment of two software engineers who protested at company events Friday over the Israeli military’s use of the company’s artificial intelligence products, according to documents viewed by CNBC.

Ibtihal Aboussad, a software engineer in the company’s AI division who is based in Canada, was fired Monday over “just cause, wilful misconduct, disobedience or wilful neglect of duty,” according to one of the documents.

Another Microsoft software engineer, Vaniya Agrawal, had said she would resign from the company on April 11. But Microsoft terminated her role Monday, according to an internal message viewed by CNBC. The company wrote that it “has decided to make your resignation immediately effective today.”

Both employees chose Microsoft’s 50th anniversary event to publicly voice their criticism.

What Microsoft had hoped would be a celebratory period has turned into a brutal few days for the company, which is being hit, along with the rest of the market, by President Donald Trump’s widespread tariffs.

The tariffs are a topic that CEO Satya Nadella and his two predecessors, Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, were forced to uncomfortably confront Friday in an interview with CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin.

“As a Microsoft shareholder, this kind of thing is not good,” Ballmer said about the tariffs.

Meanwhile, the celebration itself captured headlines more for the protesters’ shared message than for Microsoft’s half-century of accomplishments.

The first interruption Friday came from Aboussad, who stood up during Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman’s speech.

“Mustafa, shame on you,” Aboussad said as she walked toward the stage at the event in Redmond, Washington. “You claim that you care for using AI for good, but Microsoft sells AI weapons to the Israeli military. Fifty thousand people have died, and Microsoft powers this genocide in our region.”

Aboussad also called Suleyman a “war profiteer.”

“You have blood on your hands,” she said before being swiftly escorted out. “All of Microsoft has blood on its hands.”

Shortly after the interruption, Aboussad sent an email, which was viewed by CNBC, to Suleyman and other Microsoft executives, including CEO Satya Nadella, finance chief Amy Hood, operating chief Carolina Dybeck Happe, and Brad Smith, the company’s president.

“I spoke up today because after learning that my org was powering the genocide of my people in Palestine, I saw no other moral choice,” Aboussad wrote in the email. “This is especially true when I’ve witnessed how Microsoft has tried to quell and suppress any dissent from my coworkers who tried to raise this issue.”

“I did not sign up to write code that violates human rights,” Aboussad wrote, adding a link to a “No Azure for Apartheid” petition.

Microsoft wrote in the internal message to Aboussad that her email to executives served as “an admission that you deliberately and willfully engaged in your earlier misconduct.” The company also said Aboussad could have raised concerns “confidentially with your manager, or with Global Employee Relations. Instead, you chose to intentionally disrupt the speech of Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman.”

Microsoft “has concluded that your misconduct was designed to gain notoriety and cause maximum disruption to this highly anticipated event,” the company wrote.

“Immediate cessation of your employment is the only appropriate response,” Microsoft said.

At a separate Microsoft event with executives Friday, Agrawal interrupted a speech by Nadella with a similar protest and also sent an email to executives afterward.

“You may have seen me stand up earlier today to call out Satya during his speech at the Microsoft 50th anniversary,” Agrawal wrote in the email, which was viewed by CNBC. “Over the past 1.5 years, I’ve grown more aware of Microsoft’s growing role in the military-industrial complex.”

Agrawal wrote that Microsoft is “complicit” as a “digital weapons manufacturer that powers surveillance, apartheid, and genocide” and that “by working for this company, we are all complicit.”
