Mercury off gases at room temperature and moreso at body temperature and remains an emitter for decades.
Inhaled mercury is far more biologically harmful than ingested mercury (which is toxic af). Hundreds of times more. The GI tract recognizes it; the respiratory tract doesn't.
It blocks the ability to form the myelin sheath around nerves and they are like live uninsulated wires.
Dentists are legally allowed to put a banned neurotoxin in your mouth where you will breathe these vapors for the rest of your life and suffer the harm.
They however, while shaping the amalgam fillings with their handpieces at 100,000 rpm grind it into microscopic particles which they breathe daily to their great harm. Many are lost this way and many more are damned by it.
Something to do with making the amalgam fillings easier to work with or improving the functional properties. Either way it needs to be outlawed in dentistry like everywhere else.
