At least one dead after helicopter carrying 5 passengers crashes into Hudson River, ‘split in half’
A helicopter crashed into the Hudson River Thursday afternoon – killing at least one person on board, according to fire officials and sources.
Rescue efforts are underway after witnesses saw the chopper “split in half” before it went down near Pier 40 on West Houston Street and West Street around 3:15 p.m., the New York City Fire Department told The Post.
Sources said at least one person was killed. At least five people were on board, including two adults and three children, the sources said.
Three victims have already been pulled from the water and are being transported to nearby hospitals in New Jersey, according to sources, who noted the helicopter departed from New York City’s Downtown area before crashing.
Witnesses on social media also described a “loud thumping noise” when the helicopter crashed, with what appeared to be a broken propeller.
