I've got a theory about that.
They'll drive the price of a stock up when they want to unload it. The 'feeders' buy in thinking they are going to make money.
Similarly, if a stock is very potentially valuable in the future, they will drive the price low to allow themselves to accumulate as much as possible, and to keep the 'feeders' away.
