Ukraine says three killed, dozens injured in Russian drone attack on Dnipro
17 Apr 2025 15:38
Ukraine said on Thursday that a Russian drone strike on the southeastern city of Dnipro resulted in the deaths of three people, including a child, and left 31 others injured.
“A massive UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) attack led to tragic consequences.
Three people died in Dnipro, including a child,” said a statement issued by Dnipropetrovsk Governor Serhiy Lysak on Telegram, News.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Lysak said the late Wednesday attack left 31 other people wounded, including 10 hospitalized.
He added that municipal workers are on the scene of the attack, and police and humanitarian organizations have set up tents.
“At least 15 buildings were damaged, including student dormitories, educational institutions, and food processing plants,” Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov also announced on Telegram.
DTEK, a Ukrainian private energy provider, said in a statement that buildings and equipment at one of its production sites in the Dnipropetrovsk region were severely damaged.
"Fortunately, no employees were injured," it added.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's Air Force claimed that its air defenses intercepted 25 of 75 Russian drones, affecting the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions during overnight attacks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated his call to put more pressure on Russia to end the conflict and ensure a stable peace on X, stating:
“Every defense package from our partners for Ukraine right now, every form of support from the world for our resilience, is literally the protection of lives."
Separately, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal called on Kyiv's partners to respond "strongly and decisively to the daily shelling of Ukrainian cities and the killing of civilians."
Russian authorities have not immediately commented on the attacks.

Exclusive: Saronic will build 150-foot drone boats at Louisiana shipyard
Apr 16, 2025
Defense startup Saronic purchased boatmaker Gulf Craft, securing it a Southern shipyard where it plans to produce a new unmanned warship, Marauder.
Why it matters: Shipbuilding, long a niche interest, is now center stage.
President Trump has promised stateside revitalization, signing an executive order and pledging new ships "very fast, very soon" in a national address.
Plus, the Navy is clamoring for a hybrid fleet. The future, its leaders believe, is defined by sailors and Marines fighting alongside smart machinery.
State of play: Saronic's acquisition of Gulf Craft gives it 100 acres in Franklin, Louisiana, at which it can construct larger vessels.
Marauder will be 150 feet long — a far cry from the 24-foot Corsair, its heftiest drone boat to date.
"If we just say, 'Hey, we're going to go build ships the way they've always been built, and we're just going to recreate the workforce that existed 70 years ago,' we're not going to get there as a country," CEO Dino Mavrookas told Axios.
"Our goal — our vision — is to have this product released within the next 12 months." He declined to share financial details of the Gulf Craft acquisition.
Context: The Louisiana footprint is separate from Port Alpha, the massive facility Saronic teased in February and is still scouting locations for.
The intrigue: Marauder is being developed "ahead of government contracting," according to Mavrookas.
"We're investing private capital to build very, very quickly," he said. "We're not sitting around for three, four, five years waiting for requirements to be written."
The vessel is expected to have a payload capacity of 40 metric tons and be able to travel up to 3,500 nautical miles. It has potential commercial applications, as well. Think port-to-port logistics and offshore resupply.
What they're saying: "By revitalizing our industrial base right here in Louisiana, we are taking a critical step toward building our own supply chains and countering foreign competitors like China," House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told Axios in a statement.
"All of this is essential to our national security."
Follow the money: Saronic was earlier this year valued at $4 billion. The figure coincided with news of a $600 million funding round.
What's next: Saronic plans to spend $250 million reworking Gulf Craft's plant.

Disturbing Lights Over Vancouver Spark UFO and End-of-Times Theories
April 17, 2025
The bizarre footage of what seems like an UFO that surfaced from Vancouver this week might mean the end of the times—or maybe there’s a perfectly logical explanation we just haven’t received yet.
The only thing that’s clear is that something strange happened in the night sky, and millions of people are still trying to make sense of it.
In the now-viral video, a cluster of colorful lights can be seen moving in a perfect circular pattern above Vancouver’s dark skyline.
The visual is unsettling—almost too perfect—and it’s easy to understand why some viewers were quick to label it as “UFO activity.”
The clip was originally posted by an X user and has since reached nearly 5 million views, sparking debate, memes, and a whole lot of nervous energy.
Viral Video Shows Mysterious Lights in Vancouver’s Sky Sparks UFO Theories What makes this video particularly eerie is that no one really knows what it is.
There have been no official statements from local authorities, weather agencies, or the government.
People online have offered their theories—ranging from alien monitoring to advanced drone displays—but nothing has been confirmed.
Some skeptical users questioned why a spaceship would even have visible lights if it were trying to stay hidden.
Others embraced the idea that this could be proof of extraterrestrial surveillance, an UFO or maybe even a new form of tech we don’t fully understand yet.
One possible explanation comes from Grok, an AI tool on X, which weighed in on the situation and doesn’t mention anything about UFOs:
“The video likely shows the northern lights, visible in Vancouver on April 15, 2025, due to a strong geomagnetic storm… the lights match auroral patterns, not satellite trains or meteors… it’s probably real, but checking local reports can confirm.”
According to Grok, clear skies, a coronal mass ejection from the sun, and atmospheric conditions might have created the swirling lights, making it likely to be aurora borealis rather than anything artificial—or extraterrestrial.
In short, we might just be looking at a rare but natural light show. But the mystery remains, especially since auroras rarely appear in such perfect formations, and many people still feel like something’s off.
Whether this was a cosmic coincidence or a message from beyond, one thing’s certain: Vancouver’s sky has become the center of a viral mystery that’s keeping millions glued to their screens.
And until we have an official explanation, the question will remain—what exactly did we witness that night?

UFOs in Oklahoma? Here's what the strange lights in the sky actually were
Thursday, April 17th 2025, 11:14 am
OKLAHOMA -
Several News On 6 viewers reported seeing a line of lights moving across the night sky, prompting speculation about unidentified flying objects.
Despite their drone-like appearance, these lights are most likely Starlink satellites launched by SpaceX.
The satellites often appear in a closely spaced formation shortly after launch, creating a visual effect sometimes described as a "string of pearls."
According to Starlink, this phenomenon is especially visible during the first few days after launch, when the satellites are still close together and reflecting sunlight or light.
During this period, the satellites are often only visible during the first couple of days due to changes in the orientation of the solar panels and the addition of sunshades, which were implemented to reduce their brightness and impact on astronomical observations.

Area 51-linked Navy sailor who saw latest tic-tac UFOs rise from Pacific reveals chilling details about them
Updated: 13:39 EDT, 17 April 2025
A Navy sailor, whose family has ties to Area 51, has revealed eerie details about when he encountered four mysterious UFOs rising from the Pacific Ocean.
Senior Chief Operations Specialist Alexandro Wiggins, a Navy veteran of 23 years, was onboard the USS Jackson during the incident on February 15, 2023.
Wiggins had watched the mysterious four objects emerging from the ocean and taking off in a 'synchronized' flight off the coast of southern California.
Speaking with 8newsnow, the radar specialist contended that he still remains dubious and wonders if the truth about it will ever be revealed about what he saw.
He said: 'To my surprise, which is something I've never witnessed, was a light I noticed on the horizon, it looked as if it were surfacing out of the water and going up.'
Not believing what he was seeing, he took a look at the shapes through a thermal sensor, which showed not just one but two tic-tac shaped objects in the sky.
'We only saw the one, and then we see the second one. I was only when we zoom out that we realize there's two more out here, a total of four', he added.
Wiggins - who is speaking out to help investigators piece together the mystery - said that while he was watching the tic tacs in awe, they suddenly took off 'to the north east, all at the same time.'
Most shocking to Wiggins was the speed of the lights in the sky. He said: 'If I had to talk speed, it was two steps behind instantaneous.'
While maintaining skepticism about what he saw from the ship in 2023, Wiggins hoped that 'one day I’ll know what that was, and I’ll be like 80 or 90 years old.
'And it’ll be normalized like the stealth fighter or Area 51. At some point, it’ll be public, but then I’ll be old.'
Wiggins, a Las Vegas native, also said that his father had worked at Area 51, the highly classified Air Force base that is frequently linked with UFO theories and folklore.
The shape of the UFOs appeared strikingly similar to a 2004 sighting of a 'tic tac shaped' UFO in the same waters, which was previously investigated by a top secret government program.
The never-before-seen video was obtained by journalist George Knapp and Jeremy Corbell, co-hosts of the Weaponized Podcast, who revealed it to the public earlier this month.
Knapp and co-host Jeremy Corbell spoke to personnel onboard who said they watched as four Tic Tac-shaped UFOs that emerged from the ocean in a military-controlled area known as Warning Area 291.
Corbell noted that this is the same area of the Pacific where other Navy sailors have reported seeing strange, unidentified craft over the years - including the now-infamous 2004 Tic Tac sighting by the USS Nimitz.
A combat information center (CIC) operator on board the Jackson who witnessed the incident spoke with the podcast, saying that seeing a UFO over the Pacific isn't really shocking for Navy personnel, but seeing a whole formation take off out of the water was jarring.
1/2
'All in synchronous, jetting into the abyss. All four, all timed together and all left. And we were like holy s**t," the anonymous CIC operator told the Weaponized podcast.
'The second they left, maybe three, four seconds pass, I run to my station and I look at my radar, they're all off radar. That's it, they all zoomed off," the sailor continued.
'But it's clear that they're in communication with one another and synchronized like three, two, one countdown. Let's all go.
'I think unless there's some level of like one entity controlling all four and then they all leave at the same time.'
Shockingly, none of the craft seen in the Safire images was producing any kind of heat trail as they were moving through the air - meaning they were using a totally unknown form of propulsion.
Corbell added that even if the UFOs were just hovering over the Pacific, the Safire camera should have been able to see some kind of heat from an engine - but there was nothing.
Former defense department analyst Marik Von Rennenkampff analyzed flight data from the time and location of the sighting and concluded there were no US aircraft in the area.
'I don't think it's ours. I suspect there are better places for us to showcase that kind of equipment to unwitting sailors. That just doesn't make sense,' Von Rennenkampff said.
The incident echoes the infamous, 'Nimitz incident' two decades prior, when Navy pilots saw two UFOs flying at incredible speeds in the same area.
At least six pilots encountered the mysterious object as it flew at speed over the Pacific near Mexico on November 14, 2004.
Top Gun fighter pilot David Fravor was flying a training exercise off the coast of San Diego when he was re-routed to investigate a strange object spotted on radar by warships protecting his aircraft carrier, the Nimitz.
He found a roughly 40ft white object with no windows or wings, shaped like a Tic-Tac, flitting about above the sea that was roiling below it, disturbed by something large submerged beneath the surface.
Commander Fravor told Congress in 2023 that as he circled the object, it turned to mirror his movements, then shot off past him at thousands of miles per hour, somehow stopping a second later at a secret pre-designated rendezvous point 60 miles away, that only he and a handful of Navy staff on his ship were given ahead of their training exercise.
Fellow F-18 pilot Lieutenant Chad Underwood then flew out and caught the object on video – footage that was published by the New York Times in 2017, igniting a firestorm of intrigue about the government's knowledge of UFOs.
The way it moved has led to speculation that it was a UFO and it has become a key piece of evidence for those who believe in extraterrestrials.

A ‘fireball’ lights up Mexico City skies, sparking awe and plenty of memes
Updated 7:44 AM PDT, April 17, 2025
MEXICO CITY (AP) — A bright object, initially appearing to be a meteorite, lit up the skies over Mexico’s capital around 3 a.m. Wednesday, stretching over plains, volcanoes and small towns.
Videos of a ball of fire shooting over the Latin American country and dissolving in a burst of light over Mexico City struck awe in many — and quickly became the fuel for memes circulating on social media.
“No, the meteorite that exploded last night isn’t an excuse to talk to your ex,” someone wrote on X, over a GIF of dinosaurs walking through a meteorite shower.
Soon, photos of the fireball edited with cartoon characters and political jokes flooded the internet.
Scientists across Mexico were quick to note that the object rocketing across the skies was not a meteorite; it was a bolide.
Bolides, defined by NASA as fireballs, are “exceptionally bright meteors that are spectacular enough to be seen over a very wide area.”
Mario Rodríguez, a doctor in space science with the National Autonomous University of Mexico, said it could also be described as a meteoroid, or a fragment of a meteor.
Bolides like the one that coasted over Mexican skies early Wednesday catch fire as they descend to Earth.
“Due to the great pressure on the object, they begin to flash with a stretching tail and emit light,” said Rodríguez, one of a group of scientists studying the videos that shocked many Mexicans.
He said unlike meteorites, which impact Earth, a bolide disintegrates in the atmosphere.
This particular meteoroid, he said, was around 1.5 meters (5 feet) in length and posed no threat to the public.

Texas Man 'Disemboweled' Father He Thought Was an Alien, After Dad Said Son Was 'Acting Crazy Again': Police
4/17/2025 8:02 AM PT
A family member allegedly smelled "rotting flesh emanating from the residence" before a horrific discovery inside; when police asked the suspect why he was covered in blood, he claimed an alien had "harvested his organs" a few days prior.
A Texas man is being held on a $2 million bond after the gruesome murder of his father – a man he apparently believed was an alien.
Jaime Adrian Contreras, 39, was arrested last Saturday, April 12, and charged with murder in the death of his 74-year-old dad, Victor Gerardo Contreras, according to the El Paso Police Department.
Jaime, it seems, had a history of mental health issues before the incident.
Authorities first responded to Victor's home on Saturday after a family member who hadn't heard from him for about a week went to the house and discovered his body.
Before entering, he said he noticed a smell of "rotting flesh emanating from the residence" via the victim's open bedroom window, according to court docs reviewed by local FOX affiliate KFOX14.
When he entered the home, he found the victim in his bedroom, covered with a sheet. He reportedly noticed head trauma, while the sheet was spattered with blood.
The family member then began texting Jaime, who also lived in the home – telling police he could tell Contreras saw the messages, but didn't respond to them.
While executing a search warrant on the house, investigators found suspected blood throughout.
The victim, per docs, was "disemboweled," appeared to have both a slit throat and stab wounds around his neck, and suffered a head injury.
After a neighbor claimed they saw Jaime driving his father's Jeep, the vehicle and suspect were located nearby. When asked where his father was by police, Jaime allegedly responded, "In heaven."
Per the docs, he also appeared to have a "deep" cut on his finger and a swollen hand, allegedly telling authorities he received his injures by "battling."
He then claimed he had been "fighting" after an alien harvested his organs a few days prior.
Per police, in May 2023, the El Paso Police Crisis Intervention Team which handles mental health issues came to the home about an Emergency Detention Order and said, at the time, Jaime believed his father was an alien.
In July that same year, CIT officers were again called to the home and told Jaime didn't recognize Victor as his father and thought he was an alien.
The wife of the man who found the victim also told police she last spoke with Victor on April 5; in a phone call, the victim allegedly told her Jaime was "acting crazy again."
She allegedly claimed Jaime took the phone from his father and indicated he was upset, claiming Victor wanted to sell the phone. In a later call, he told her "everything was fine," after calling police.
According to police, Victor called them twice that day – claiming Jaime was threatening him, hit him and had a hammer, saying "give me my power."
Officers reportedly did respond, gave the hammer back to the victim and it was closed out as a mental health call, as Victor allegedly never said he was hit with the tool.
Jaime is being held on $2 million bond.
