Moscow will pause hostilities with Kiev for 30 hours, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary Easter pause in hostilities with Ukraine, which is slated to begin at 18:00 Moscow time on Saturday and last until midnight on April 21.

The announcement came during his meeting with Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov in Moscow. Putin expressed hope that Kiev would demonstrate goodwill and adhere to the ceasefire.

”At the same time, our troops must be prepared to respond to any violations or provocations by the adversary, to any aggressive actions,” he said.

Putin stated that Ukraine’s reaction to the ceasefire would be a clear indicator of whether Kiev is sincerely willing to engage in negotiations to end the conflict.

The president referenced the US-brokered 30-day energy infrastructure truce agreed to on March 18, accusing Ukraine of violating it.

“We know that the Kiev regime has violated the agreement on pausing energy infrastructure strikes more than a hundred times,” Putin explained. “Therefore, I ask you [Gerasimov] to remain extremely vigilant and prepared for an immediate and full-force response.”

Shortly after Putin’s statement, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the ceasefire, calling on Kiev to reciprocate.

”The ceasefire is being introduced for humanitarian purposes and will be observed by the Russian Joint Group of Troops, provided it is mutually observed by the Kiev regime,” the ministry said.

While Kiev did not immediately provide a clear response to Putin’s announcement, it appeared to reject the temporary truce. Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky branded it an attempt to “play with human lives,” claiming that swarms of Russian kamikaze drones were detected in the country’s skies at 17:15 Moscow time.

Hamas proposes full hostage release for end of Gaza war

The militant group says it wants a comprehensive peace deal and will not accept any “partial” agreements

Hamas is seeking a comprehensive agreement to end the war in Gaza and exchange all Israeli hostages for Palestinians imprisoned in Israel, a senior official of the organization has said, rejecting West Jerusalem’s proposal for another temporary truce.

Khalil Al-Hayya, Hamas’ Gaza chief negotiator, said in a video statement on Friday that the Palestinian group would no longer accept interim agreements. Israel’s latest proposal involved a 45-day ceasefire and the release of ten hostages held by Hamas. In return, Israel would release 120 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences and over 1,000 detainees held since October 7, 2023. The offer would require Hamas to disarm as a condition for a complete end to the war – a demand the group firmly rejects.

“The partial agreements are exploited by “[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu and his government as a cover for their political agenda, which is founded on perpetuating the genocidal war and siege; even if the price is sacrificing all of their own prisoners [hostages],” Hayya said.

He stated that Hamas was “ready to immediately negotiate a deal to swap all hostages” in exchange for an end to the Gaza war, the release of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons, and the reconstruction of Gaza.

The Israeli authorities have reported that 59 hostages remain in the enclave, with 24 believed to be alive. Dozens of others were previously released through ceasefire agreements or separate deals.

DHS has now publicly announced that AEA removals are imminent.”

Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito strongly dissented from the majority ruling.

New Jersey Sues Online Platform Discord Over Child Predator Concerns

New Jersey on Thursday became the first state to sue gaming platform Discord, alleging the company failed to protect children from online predators despite marketing itself as a “fun and safe space for teens.”

The civil suit, filed by New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, alleges that Discord violated the state’s Consumer Fraud Act by failing to protect minors, according to a report by NBC News.

Discord is a popular messaging platform used by millions to chat via text, voice, and video. It is especially popular among young gamers, who use the platform to converse while playing games like Roblox and Minecraft, both of which are heavily used by children.

The gaming chat platform officially bans users under 13 and claims a zero-tolerance policy toward those who exploit minors, per NBC News.

“They’ve waged a very extensive PR campaign to tell the public all the features that they put in place to protect kids on their app,” Platkin said. “They know that they’re not working, and they know that they’re not actually protecting kids the way they say they are.”

Discord defended its safety measures, saying the company is “proud” of its “continuous efforts and investments in features and tools that help make Discord safer.”

A spokesperson added that the platform disputes the claims in the lawsuit and looks “forward to defending the action in court.”

According to Platkin, children under 13 can create accounts by simply checking a box claiming they are older.

The platform’s “Sensitive Media” filter, designed to blur explicit material, often doesn’t work and is “very easy to evade.”

A 2023 NBC News investigation uncovered 35 cases where adults were prosecuted for kidnapping, grooming, or sexual assault allegedly involving Discord communications, plus more than 100 additional cases of child sexual abuse material.

Following heavy public scrutiny, Discord made several policy updates, including banning teen dating and artificial intelligence-generated child sexual abuse material on the service.

The company’s CEO, Jason Citron, called reports of exploitation on the platform “horrifying” at the time.

In January, Citron was among several tech executives called to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee about child safety policies alongside leaders from Meta, Snapchat, TikTok, and X.

The New Jersey lawsuit is seeking civil penalties, restitution for affected users, and court-mandated changes to Discord’s policies and features to better protect minors on the platform.

Its interests are indeed perpetual but center on its own success at aggressively portraying itself always as the victim while also advancing its own tribal interests.” I admittedly tend to think often about the enemy we of the western Christian tradition have been nurturing at our breast for decades in a spirit of tolerance, a viper that is only setting out to corrupt and then destroy us, manifest particularly at this time of year, when the life and death of Jesus Christ ought to be rightly celebrated. Alas, in today’s Israel what is truly remarkable is the government’s open suppression of Christian identity and worship without any complaint coming from Washington or from the other nominally Christian nations of Europe.

Indeed, Christianity in the Middle East is generally dying due the pressure exerted by Israel to make Palestinian life and religious practice as difficult as possible as well as broader regional issues including Israeli and US punishment and replacement of regimes in places like Syria and Lebanon which up until recently harbored substantial Christian minorities. Christians, generally speaking, find it easier to emigrate to friendlier countries worldwide than local Muslims as they often have established family overseas to help in the process.

The marginalization of Christians in Israel, recently driven by apartheid legislation and parliamentary declaration of Israel to be a Jewish state, has been around for a long time but it is particularly bad this year for both Christmas and Easter with refusal by the Israeli authorities to permit gatherings for church services and other celebrations. Only 6,000 security “passes” were issued by the Israelis to West Bank Palestinian Christians to celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter in Jerusalem this year unlike in the past when there would be 50,000 attendees. As a result, many celebrations and the usual parades have been canceled.

European Union bans commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany

The European Union is warning European leaders not to attend the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in Moscow on May 9.

Ostensibly, the rationale for such a ban is that Russia is allegedly waging a war against Ukraine and threatening the rest of Europe, according to the EU. That’s one way of seeing it.

Another way of seeing the matter is that the conflict in Ukraine is a proxy war sponsored by the EU and NATO to defeat Russia, eight decades after Nazi Germany failed to do it. The Euro elites who have come to dominate policymaking share the same fascist mentality. No wonder, then, that they are against attending the 80th anniversary event in Moscow next month. They need to sully that event by way of covering up their despicable politics.

The event marking the defeat of Nazi Germany and fascism in Europe is a massively important historical date for the entire world. Eighty years ago, on May 9, 1945, the Soviet Red Army crushed the Nazi regime in Berlin thereby ending the most horrific war in human history.

Up to 27 million Soviet citizens – perhaps more – gave their lives in the epic struggle to defeat Nazi Germany and its fascist European allies, including Vichy France, Italy, Hungary, Finland and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Russia holds the honor of liberating Europe from the evil of fascism. By comparison, the other anti-fascist allies of the United States and Britain lost less than 5 per cent of the casualties that the Soviet citizens endured.

It is fitting that many international leaders are attending the Victory Day parade in Moscow this year. They include China’s Xi Jinping and India’s Narendra Modi.

Many others, however, will not be in Moscow, which is lamentable. The American President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer should be present to pay respects to the soldiers and civilians who sacrificed their lives. Deplorably, the toxic politics that have poisoned relations between Western states and Russia have rendered such participation impossible.

What is all the more appalling, however, is the explicit ban on European leaders attending the celebrations in Moscow.

Three Hegseth Aides Officially FIRED After Being Put on Leave Amid Leaks Probe – Now Plan to Sue For Wrongful Termination

Joe Kasper, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s chief of staff will leave his role in the coming days for a new position at the agency, according to a senior administration official, amid a week of turmoil for the Pentagon.

Senior adviser Dan Caldwell, Hegseth deputy chief of staff Darin Selnick and Colin Carroll, the chief of staff to Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg, were placed on leave this week in an ongoing leak probe. All three were terminated on Friday, according to three people familiar with the matter, who, like others, were granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive issue.

The latest incidents add to the Pentagon’s broader upheaval in recent months, including fallout from Hegseth’s release of sensitive information in a Signal chat with other national security leaders and a controversial department visit by Elon Musk.

Caldwell, Carroll, Selnick and Kasper declined to comment. Two of the people said Carroll and Selnick plan to sue for wrongful termination. The Pentagon did not respond to a request of comment.

Kasper had requested an investigation into Pentagon leaks in March, which included military operational plans for the Panama Canal, a second carrier headed to the Red Sea, Musk’s visit and a pause in the collection of intelligence for Ukraine.

But some at the Pentagon also started to notice a rivalry between Kasper and the fired advisers.

“Joe didn’t like those guys,” said one defense official. “They all have different styles. They just didn’t get along. It was a personality clash.”

The changes will leave Hegseth without a chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, or senior adviser in his front office.

“There is a complete meltdown in the building, and this is really reflecting on the secretary’s leadership,” said a senior defense official. “Pete Hegseth has surrounded himself with some people who don’t have his interests at heart.”

This week’s terminations follow a purge of top military officers in February, including former Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. C.Q. Brown and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti.

“There probably will be more chaos,” said a third defense official. “It certainly reinforces the fear factor, awareness that no one’s job is safe.”

Other officials wondered what this would mean for Hegseth, a still inexperienced Pentagon leader who has just lost many of his top advisers.

“The front office has some really first-rate uniformed military staff, but there’s only so much they can pick up in an organization that big,” said a former Trump administration official. “That kind of dysfunction compounds.”

Democrats pointed to the firings as another example of Hegseth’s inability to lead the agency.
