Zakharova suggests incoming German chancellor poses threat to world

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman has asked whether Friedrich Merz may be planning a return to one of the country’s darkest times

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has suggested that Germany’s incoming chancellor could revive a dark era in history, in response toa report that he will pledge to “assume responsibility again” in an Easter address.

On Saturday, Bild reported that in thespeech, Friedrich Merz will promise that “Germany will again assume responsibility – in Europe and in the world. Not loudly, but reliably. Not arrogantly, but in a partner-like manner.”(so the secret Nazi leader will take over again? WOW, Germany elected their Fuhrer again, sounds very Hitlerite.)

In a post on her Telegram channel later on Saturday, Zakharovajocularly inquired “to which historical period” the “again” in Merz’s purported address refers.

Speaking to ARD last Sunday, Merz, who is expected to be officially named chancellor on May 6, said that he could deliver Taurus missiles to Ukraine. The weapon has a range of 500km.

His predecessor Olaf Scholz has repeatedly refused Kiev’s requests for the rockets, citing fears of an escalation of the conflict.

The incoming chancellor, however, told reporters thatGermany “would be equipping the Ukrainian army with such a weapon” under his leadership. He appeared to suggest that Kiev could use Taurus missiles to strike the bridge connecting Crimea with mainland Russia.

Matthias Miersch, the leader of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), which is currently in the process of forming a coalition government with Merz’s Christian Democrats, expressed hope on Wednesday that the incoming chancellor, “once fully informed by [intelligence]agencies, will reassess the issue clearly.”

“I assume that we do not want to contribute to an escalation or become a party to the war,” the politician said.

Commenting on Merz’s remark during a press briefing on Thursday, Zakharova warned that “since live firing these cruise missiles is impossible without the direct assistance of Bundeswehr servicemen, a strike on any Russian facilities, [or] critical transport infrastructure… will be regarded as direct German participation in military operations.”

Russia’s ambassador to Germany, Sergey Nechaev, similarly stated that while unable to alter the battlefield dynamics, the delivery of Taurus missiles to Ukraine could lead to an escalation of the fighting and compel Moscow to retaliate.

Throughout the Ukraine conflict, Moscow has repeatedly condemned Western military aid to Kiev, insisting that it only serves to prolong the bloodshed.

Moldovan authorities ‘intimidating’ largest Christian church – opposition

Several parties have demanded an explanation for why a senior cleric has been prevented from attending Easter ceremonies

Moldova’s opposition parties have accused the pro-EU government of waging a pressure campaign against the country’s largest Christian church. The outrage follows an incident in which border police blocked Marchel, the Bishop of Balti and Falesti, from traveling to Easter celebrations in Jerusalem.

“The authorities are increasing their pressure on the Moldovan Metropolis,” the Pobeda – Victorie Bloc, a coalition of opposition parties, said in a statement on Telegram on Saturday.

“What are Orthodox worshippers witnessing during Holy Week?Instead of respect for their faith – a show of force. Instead of calm and prayer – barricades, police, and intimidation.”

Marchel had intended to participate in the Holy Fire ritual at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which is traditionally held around midday on Holy Saturday. According to the cleric, police first stopped and searched him at Chisinau Airport on Thursday, returning his passport only after his flight had departed. He said he was “unjustifiably” prevented from boarding another plane on Friday.

The border police insisted that the bishop had been subjected to routine processing and missed his flight on Thursday because he’d arrived late. Officials have not yet commented on what happened on Friday. Marchel has accused the authorities of lying.

“We are demanding a clear answer: Who gave the order, and why has the Church once again come under pressure? We will not allow the destruction of what has, for centuries, united people and preserved peace in our society,” the Pobeda – Victorie Bloc said.

In a separate statement, the bloc accused the authorities of attempting to “discredit” the church.

The Party of Socialists (PSRM) described the incident as “a deliberate act of spiritual terror”and demanded an explanation from the authorities.

“Any pressure on the Church is a crime against the people and an attack on the very foundations of Moldovan statehood,” the PSRM said.

The former Soviet republic has two distinct Orthodox churches: the Moldovan Orthodox Church (Metropolis of Chisinau), a self-governing entity under the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church, and the smaller Metropolis of Bessarabia, affiliated with the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Last year, the Moldovan Orthodox Churchreported a rise in the number of cases where government and law enforcement officials intimidated its clergy.

(Don’t be deceived that is what the Left in America wants to do here. If they ever get in power again they will implement charges against Christians. Bidan was the first example.)

Their churches and services are amazingly beautiful

SCOOP: The Interior Department is redefining "harm" in the Endangered Species Act; Rep. Celeste Maloy explains why this matters

MATTHEW FOLDI

APR 17, 2025

The Supreme Court’s landmark Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo decision that overturned decades of Chevron deference is coming to the Department of Interior.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) issued a little-noticed proposed rulemaking that would “rescind the regulatory definition of ‘harm’ under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).”

97 percent of species added to the endangered species list stay there. The Interior Department’s goal in redefining “harm” aims to increase the flexibility and transparency of the law.

Some of Congress’s top experts on natural resources told the Washington Reporter that the move, spearheaded by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, is long overdue.

“I’m impressed to see the agencies taking a serious and responsible approach to bringing their regulations in line with the Supreme Court’s decisionin Loper Bright,” Rep. Celeste Maloy (R., Utah), who serves on the House Committee on Natural Resources, told the Reporter.

“This proposed rule aims to align the definition with the plain text of the ESA, as informed by historical and legal interpretations of ‘take’ as an affirmative act directly affecting wildlife,” the Interior Department said.

Under Burgum’s stewardship, FWS “propose[s] that the statutory definition of ‘take’ — encompassing actions like harass, pursue, hunt, or kill — is sufficient without further elaboration of ‘harm’ by regulation,” per his department.

While these moves will not affect existing permits, Maloy said that she’s ready to see more. “I hope to see more of this in the next few months and years,” she added.

Judicial Watch: Emails Reveal White House’s Detailed Revisions to Transcript of President Biden Interview with Special Counsel

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that it received 52 pages of documents from the U.S. Department of Justice showing White House staffers suggesting edits to transcripts of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur regarding his handling of secret documents.

The documents were obtained thanks to a Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Justice for records of communication between the agency and White House regarding the altered transcripts of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s October 2023 interviews of President Biden in the criminal investigation into Biden’s theft and disclosure of classified records (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice(No. 1:24-cv-02176)).

In a separate lawsuit brought by Judicial Watch, a federal court ordered the Department of Justice to declare whether it intends to continue denying Judicial Watch’s request for the full audio of former President Joe Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur. The Trump Justice Department has until May 20, 2025, to report its position on the release of the videotape. ((Judicial Watch, Inc. v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:24-cv-00700))

Also, previously in that lawsuit, Judicial Watch forced the Biden administration to confess that the transcripts of the audio recordings have been altered and are not accurate.

The new documents provided in this case include a chart of suggested changes by Biden White House and personal lawyers to the transcript. Also included are emails that detail Biden lawyer Bob Bauer’s requesting access to interview exhibits and a meeting with the special counsel to discuss the case. Justice Department official Marc Krickbaum confirmed most White House revisions to the transcript were accepted, including minor clarifications and changes potentially masking Biden’s confusion, such as correcting who said “Yeah” or altering references to Biden’s Delaware garage and President Biden’s seeming inability to recall the name of the Defense Secretary.

“These new documents provide an extraordinary insight into a cover-up of the White House of Biden’s cognitive challenges,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said. “The Bondi Justice Department should follow up with the full release of the actual audio of President Biden’s disastrous interview with the special counsel on his document theft and mishandling.”

On October 12, 2023, Bob Bauer, personal attorney to Biden and White House Counsel for President Obama, writes to Marc Krickbaum, then-Deputy Special Counsel, and others, including several White House staffers:

Gentlemen:

Now that the interviews of the President have concluded, we would like to discuss with you the written presentations that we are preparing to aid in the resolution of this matter, as well as the schedule for their timely submission. To this end, we request a meeting for the purpose of hearing from you where matters stand in the case, which would enable us to focus our presentations on the issues it would be most helpful for us to address. The meeting would include both personal and White House Counsel.

As you know, we also have an outstanding request for copies of the exhibits you provided in your interview of the President. We have noted that these exhibits would be necessary in our review of the transcripts of the interviews to check for any omissions or inaccuracies. We believe it is fair that we have access to this material at least for this purpose. This is one of the issues we would like to resolve at the meeting, along with an understanding for our planning purposes of when the interview transcript may be available for review in both audio and video form.

In a follow-up email, he corrects himself: “…the reference to ‘video’ can, of course, be disregarded.”

On December 21, 2023, Krickbaum writes to Rachel F. Cotton, Deputy Counsel to the President in the Office of the White House Counsel, and others showing the court reporter rejected some of the proposed edits to the Biden transcript

Dick and Rachel,

We had the court reporter who prepared the transcript review your suggested revisions. She accepted most of them. This table lists your revisions and then describes whether we did or did not make changes…

Chinese Satellite Imaging Firm Helping Houthis Target US Warships

Washington is now accusing China of getting in bed with the Iran-backed Shia Houthis of Yemen, who have long waged a war against Red Sea shipping, including attacks on US warships and Israel.

The US State Department on Thursday issued allegations centered on Chinese firm, Chang Guang Satellite Technology, saying it isdirectly supporting attacks by Houthi fighters against American interests. This firm is well-known to be close to the CCP government, and is already under Western sanctions. Pic

"We can confirm the reporting that Chang Guang Satellite Technology Company Limited (CGSTL) is directly supporting Iran-backed Houthi terrorist attacks on U.S. interests," State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce told a press briefing.

The statement was issued in the wake of a Financial Times report which said the firm is supplying the Houthis withsatellite imagery used in targeting.

"The United States has raised our concerns privately numerous times to the Chinese government on Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co Ltd’s role in supporting the Houthis in order to get Beijing to take action," a US officials was quoted in the report as saying. But these warnings were reportedly "ignored".

CGSTL has long been described asclose to the Chinese government, and has been a central firm in the country's military-civil fusion program, which requires private sector companies to provide assistance to the government when called upon. The Chinese Embassy in Washington has denied any awareness of these new allegations concerning support to the Houthis. Interestingly, public company documentspresent the firm's purpose as providing "earthquake services".

And the state connections are clear… pic

According to background on the company via FT:

The Chinese company was established in 2014 as a joint venture between the provincial government in Jilin and a branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Changchun, the province’s capital.

“Chang Guang is one of a handful of ‘ostensibly’ commercial Chinese satellite companies that are in fact deeply embedded in the military-civil fusion ecosystem, supplying global surveillance capabilities to both civilian and military customers,” said James Mulvenon, an expert on the Chinese military and intelligence services at Pamir Consulting.

It previously came under US sanctions during 2023 in connection with the Ukraine war, having been accused of givinghigh-resolution satellite imagery to Wagner Group, Russia's most well-known and controversial mercenary firm.

The FT report indicates that CGSTL had Chang Guang 100 satellites in orbit as of last year, and there are ambitious plans achieve 300 circling the earth by the end of 2025, which would allow for snapshots of any location on the planet each ten minutes.

Pic

If it does have a role in Yemen, this will further damage already severely strained US-China relations mid the tariff war, given the Houthis havefrequently directly targeted US warships, including the carrier USS Harry S. Trumanwith drone and missile attacks. The USS Carl Vison carrier is about to joint the Truman in patrolling regional waters, also as tensions heat up with Iran.

U.S. strikes on oil port held by Yemen's Houthi rebels kill dozens, wound more than 100 others, Houthis say

Updated on: April 18, 2025 / 6:02 AM EDT

Dubai, United Arab Emirates — U.S. airstrikes targeting the Ras Isa oil port held by Yemen's Houthi rebels killed 58 people and wounded 126 others, the group said Friday, marking what appeared to be the single-deadliest known attack under President Trump's new campaign targeting the rebels.

Assessing the toll of Mr. Trump's campaign, which began March 15, has been incredibly difficult as the U.S. military's Central Command so far hasn't released any information on the campaign, its specific targets and how many people have been killed. Meanwhile, Yemen's Houthi rebels strictly control access to areas attacked and don't publish information on the strikes, many of which likely have targeted military and security sites.

But the strike on the Ras Isa oil port, which sent massive fireballs shooting into the night sky, represented a major escalation of the American campaign. The Houthis also immediately released graphic footage of those killed in the attack.

The war in Yemen, meanwhile, was further internationalized as the U.S. alleged a Chinese satellite company was "directly supporting" Houthi attacks, something Beijing didn't immediately acknowledge.

The Houthis' al-Masirah satellite news channel aired graphic footage of the aftermath of the attack on Ras Isa port, showing corpses strewn across the siteIt said paramedic and civilians workers at the port had been killed in the attack, which sparked a massive explosion and fires.

In a statement, Central Command said "U.S. forces took action to eliminate this source of fuel for the Iran-backed Houthi terrorists and deprive them of illegal revenue that has funded Houthi efforts to terrorize the entire region for over 10 years."

"This strike was not intended to harm the people of Yemen, who rightly want to throw off the yoke of Houthi subjugation and live peacefully,"it added. It didn't acknowledge any casualties and declined to comment when asked by The Associated Press regarding civilians reportedly being killed.

The Ras Isa port, a collection of three oil tanks and refining equipment, sits in Yemen's Hodeida governorate along the Red Sea. NASA satellites that track forest fires showed an intense blaze early Friday morning at the site just off Kamaran Island, targeted by intense U.S. airstrikes over the last few days.

The Ras Isa port also is the terminus of an oil pipeline stretching to Yemen's energy-rich Marib governorate that's still held by allies of Yemen's exiled government. The Houthis expelled that government from Yemen's capital, Sanaa, back in 2015. However, oil exports have been halted by the decadelong war and the Houthis have used Ras Isa to bring in oil.

The Houthis and Iran denounced the U.S. attack.Too bad, so sad!

"This completely unjustified aggression represents a flagrant violation of Yemen's sovereignty and independence and a direct targeting of the entire Yemeni people," the Houthis said in a statement carried by the SABA news agency they control. "It targets a vital civilian facility that has served the Yemeni people for decades."

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran "strongly condemned the barbaric U.S. air strike," calling it "an example of aggressive crime and a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of the U.N. Charter," according to French news agency AFP.

On April 9, the U.S. State Department issued a warning about oil shipments to Yemen.

"The United States will not tolerate any country or commercial entity providing support to foreign terrorist organizations, such as the Houthis, including offloading ships and provisioning oil at Houthi-controlled ports," it said.

The attack follows Israeli airstrikes on the Houthis that previously hit port and oil infrastructure used by the rebels after their attacks on Israel.
