Hezbollah: Terrorists Behind South Syria Attacks Got Arms With US 'Assistance'
Wednesday's Daesh terrorist attacks in Sweida province have reportedly taken the lives of over 210 people, with over 200 others injured.
Lebanese militant movement Hezbollah has accused the US of being the regional patron of the "criminal gangs" which carried out brutal coordinated attacks on numerous targets in the province, including the central market in Sweida city.
"The appearance of these armed gangs with full armament and equipment from the At-Tanf area, where the US are illegally based, right before their eyes and with their obvious assistance, is dangerous," the group said in a statement.
"Obviously, regional and international forces continue to use these criminal gangs to implement their evil and hostile goals," the statement added.
Expressing condolences to the families of those who had been killed, Hezbollah emphasized that the terrorist attacks took place following the successful operations by the Syrian army in southern Syria, including in Daraa province, where the Syrian army and its allies are continuing an operation to liquidate the last Daesh stronghold in southern Syria.
On Wednesday, Daesh suicide bombers struck multiple civilian targets in Sweida city, with militants simultaneously launching raids on nearby villages. Syrian authorities said they managed to eliminate at least two of the attackers before they blew themselves up, thereby preventing even greater casualties. A local journalist reported that the terrorists killed many people in the cover of night, going house to house, knocking on doors and killing everyone inside. The terrorists are also thought to have taken dozens of civillians hostage as they escaped back to areas under their control. Daesh claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Syria's At-Tanf district in Homs province borders Iraq and Jordan, and is under the control of an international coalition led by the United States. It contains a US military base and the Rukban refugee camp. Damascus has repeatedly demanded that the coalition ends its "illegal presence" in the area.
The Syrian military and its allies, including Hezbollah, has been conducting mop-up operations against militants in southwest Syria in recent weeks. On July 15, thanks to negotiations facilitated by the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria, militants not affiliated with Daesh or the Nusra Front began to surrender, switching sides or evacuating to northern Syria.

After Trump referred to MS-13 illegal immigrant gangsters as āanimalsā earlier this year, the pro-amnesty group United We Dream group also accused Trump of ābuilding up a racially motivated rationale for his immoral and brutal campaign of ethnic cleansing.ā
āSuch tactics have been used over and over, generation after generation to criminalize, lock up and kill Black and brown people,ā the group wrote in an email for its fundraising campaign. āYou see, the Trump plan is plainly clear. Tuesday was a big day for progressive Democrats. In New York, former Bernie Sanders organizer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defeated Rep. Joe Crowley. In Maryland, former NAACP chair Benjamin Jealous won the Democratic gubernatorial primary. We speak to Linda Sarsour of MPower Change about what the victories mean for the Democratic Party.

AMY GOODMAN: In a moment, weāre going to talk about the travel ban, but Linda Sarsour is with us, director of the first Muslim online organizing platform, MPower Change. You supported Alexandria. This is a remarkable moment.
LINDA SARSOUR: I mean, in light of such horrible news yesterday with the travel ban and the Muslim ban, Alexandria is the hope that weāve been waiting for. She is a young woman of color. Sheās Puerto Rican. Sheās a Socialist, just like me. We are both card-carrying DSA members. And sheās pro-Palestine, and sheās unapologetic. And the movement right now is elated, because this is what youāre going to see, Amy, in this election season. Itās a new day, a new generation. And Alexandria is what represents us and our values.
JUAN GONZĆLEZ: And as you were saying before we went on the air, there were many people, even so-called progressives, who didnāt give her much of a chance at all of winning against Crowley.
LINDA SARSOUR: Absolutely, because weāeverybody puts everything into money. She was outraised almost 10 to one. And itās not about money. Itās about the grassroots organizing. Itās about building power on the ground. Itās about getting voters who have been ignored and marginalized to the polls. And thatās exactly what Alexandria did. Sheās charismatic. Sheās young. And she was also very progressive, unapologetically progressiveātuition-free college, Medicare for all, pro-Palestine, even in the recent Great Return March putting her voice out there while she was campaigning, not afraid of any opposition that was going to come her way. And thatās the new kind of folks that are going to win. So, no Democrat is going to hold their seat for too long. And a lot of Alexandrias are coming this 2018 and 2020.
AMY GOODMAN: It is truly a remarkable moment. And Joe Crowley, in conceding last night, picked up a guitar and dedicated āBorn to Runā to Alexandria.
LINDA SARSOUR: Mm-hmm. I mean, look, that was classy. Iām going to give Crowley some props for that. But at the end of the day, you lost, and you didnāt think you were going to lose, and you were confident that you were going to win. And the Democratic Party in Queens thought he was going to win, in the country thought was going to win. But he didnāt. And thatās why never underestimate the power of the grassroots movement or the resistance.
