Maisey O'Donnell, Two-Time State Diving Champion, Dead at 18
A Massachusetts high school community is in mourning.
Two-time state diving champion Maisey O'Donnell and her Concord-Carlisle High School classmates Jimmy McIntosh and Hannah Wasserman, were killed in a car accident in Florida, just a little over a month before their graduation from the Boston area school. A fourth passenger, an 18-year-old woman, remains in critical condition.
The high school seniors all 18, were traveling in an SUV on a highway in the Florida Panhandle just before 9:30 p.m. April 21—the first day of their school's spring break—when their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer as it was performing a U-turn on a paved median, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement to E! News.
The car carrying the teens then traveled moved across the median and both eastbound lanes before coming to a rest off the road, police said, adding that Jimmy, who was driving the car, and Hannah were pronounced dead on the scene. Maisey and the unnamed fourth passenger were transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The tractor-trailer's driver and passenger, men aged 19 and 23, respectively, were unharmed, police said in their statement.
Maisey, who had planned to attend Williams College, received a slew of tributes from friends and family on social media.
"I don’t really have words. I never thought this day would come," her younger sister Emmy O'Donnell wrote on her Instagram April 22, alongside photos of the two. "I love you more than anything in this world. You were my sister but my best friend. There was never a day that you weren’t there for me when i needed you most."

Prince William Will Attend the Pope's Funeral Since King Charles Isn't Allowed
Prince William will be traveling to the Vatican and attending the funeral of Pope Francis on behalf of the British royal family later this week. And if you're wondering why King Charles isn't attending, he literally isn't allowed.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl writes in Vanity Fair that King Charles "will not travel to the Vatican, in accordance with protocol and precedence which dictates that the Sovereign does not attend funerals, Buckingham Palace has confirmed." And this isn't the first time an heir has attended the funeral of a pope on behalf of the sovereign—back in 2005, then-Prince Charles attended Pope John Paul II's funeral on behalf of Queen Elizabeth.
That said, King Charles did visit the pope just a few days before his recent passing, and he released a statement after his death.
“My wife and I were most deeply saddened to learn of the death of Pope Francis,” Charles said. “Our heavy hearts have been somewhat eased, however, to know that His Holiness was able to share an Easter Greeting with the Church and the world he served with such devotion throughout his life and ministry.”
“His Holiness will be remembered for his compassion, his concern for the unity of the Church and for his tireless commitment to the common causes of all people of faith, and to those of goodwill who work for the benefit of others,” he added. “His belief that care for Creation is an existential expression of faith in God resounded with so many across the world. Through his work and care for both people and planet, he profoundly touched the lives of so many."
