Tulsi Gabbard refers 2 intelligence professionals to DOJ for prosecution over leaks to Washington Post, New York Times
The move, said an official, should serve "as a warning."
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on Wednesday referred two members of the intelligence community for prosecution by the Department of Justice. The allegation from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) was that the two intelligence professionals had leaked classified information.
The move, said an official, should serve "as a warning." This comes as the Department of Defense has suffered leaks intended to harm Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The White House has stood by Hegseth despite calls from leftist media for his termination. The New York Times ran an article claiming that Hegseth had sent information regarding forthcoming strikes on Houthi rebels to personal contacts, such as his wife, over the Signal app.
In an exclusive report, Fox News Digital revealed that they had learned from ODNI that "the intelligence community professionals allegedly leaked classified information to the Washington Post and The New York Times." They also reported that a third person will also be referred to the DOJ for criminal activity.
"Politicization of our intelligence and leaking classified information puts our nationโs security at risk and must end," Gabbard said to Fox News Digital. "Those who leak classified information will be found and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law."
"Today, I referred two intelligence community leakers to the Department of Justice for criminal referral, with a third criminal referral on its way, which includes the recent illegal leak to the Washington Post. These deep-state criminals leaked classified information for partisan political purposes to undermine President Trump's agenda," Gabbard went on to say.
She noted further that she looks "forward to working with the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate, terminate and prosecute these criminals." The referral comes after an internal review.
