Robin Roberts Sends Stern Warning to Michael Strahan After Pope Story
It's a good thing Michael Strahan and Robin Roberts are such good friends whose bond can withstand jokes made at each other's expense.
During a recent episode of Good Morning America, Strahan found himself walking back a comment that got him a stern warning from his co-host.
While reporting from Vatican City on Pope Francis’ death at the age of 88, Strahan reminisced on the time Roberts met the religious figure andmistakenly slipped into a Spanish accentduring the introduction, per Hello.
Noting that he was never lucky enough to meet the Pope, Strahan recalled Roberts’ interaction in 2013, stating,“unlike you, when you proclaimed you were from America,"smiling widely as he mimicked the way she rolled her"R."
Clearly, it was all in good fun as Strahan later told his co-host, "I had to throw that reference in there about being from America, but you know I love you," before adding, I wish you were here with me!"
Strahaneven tried to backtrack, stating, "I don't know how I would have reacted if I saw the Pope,” but the damage had been done as Roberts exclaimed, “Oh no, no no, don't try to clean it up now!”
The banter kept going as Strahan squeezed the most out of the reference as he could, while George Stephanopoulos, who was co-anchoring with Roberts, giggled.
"I just want to say you guys are the best, andwe're all team players and I am throwing it back to you in America," he concluded…. using the rolling"R"one last time for good measure.
“He is just digging himself out of that hole,” Roberts concluded.

Thousands of marine mammals sick, dying along Southern California coast
Marine life experts are concerned about a severe algae bloom that has left thousands ofmarine mammals, including sea lions, dolphins and whales, sick or dead along the Southern California coast this year.
One humpback, one minke and two gray whales have washed ashore dead in Orange and Los Angeles counties, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries West Coast stated in a news release.
NOAA confirmed that domoic acid was the cause of death in the juvenile female humpback whale stranded in Huntington Beach and the juvenile male minke whale stranded in the Port of Long Beach.
“This is consistent with the many other marine mammals we have seen affected by domoic acid produced by the harmful algal bloom off Southern California, first detected in February,” NOAA’s West Coast regional office spokesperson Michael Milstein told the L.A. Times earlier this week.
NOAA stated that the toxin accumulates in small fish like sardines and anchovies before affecting the entire marine food chain.
“This is the fourth consecutive year of domoic acid outbreaks, with this one being the most severe yet. As ocean temperatures rise, these harmful blooms are becoming more frequent and intense,” the news release stated.

Longtime Congressman's Daughter, 23, Dies 'Unexpectedly' on Italy Trip Following Rare Cancer Diagnosis
Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern shared the news of his daughter Molly’s death in a statement on Thursday, April 24, saying she "will always be the soul of our family"
Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern has announced the sudden death of his daughter, Molly, at age 23.
The Democratic congressman — along with his wife, Lisa, and their son, Patrick — released a statement through his office on Thursday, April 24, sharing that Molly died “unexpectedly in Italy while visiting a good friend and his family.”
“Molly radiated pure joy. She lit up every room with her beaming smile — full of laughter, endless warmth, and a sharp wit that could disarm you in an instant. She was unbelievably funny, fiercely loyal, and wise beyond her years,” the statement read.
“Molly had a rare gift: She made everyone feel special, because she genuinely believed everyone was special," the statement continued. "She treated people with compassion and kindness — always standing up for the underdog, and making fast friends wherever she went.”
Born and raised in Massachusetts, where her father has served in Congress since 1997, Molly was a student at Northeastern University in Boston,studying political science and government, with a focus on international affairs, per her LinkedIn profile.
Following in her father’s political footsteps,Molly had previously volunteered for Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin.
However, Molly had other passions as well. Her family wrote that she had just completed a study abroad semester in Australia, and her LinkedIn lists a role as “Sports Museum Ambassador” at Boston’s TDGarden— home of her favorite NHL team.
“Her love for theBoston Bruinswas fierce, but it was no match for the love she gave so freely to her family and friends. If you ever met Molly, you carried a piece of her light with you. She had that kind of effect on people,” the family’s statement said. “Even as she faced a rare cancer diagnosis, she did so with relentless courage, optimism, and tenacity — refusing to let her illness slow her down.”
They concluded, “Molly will always be the soul of our family. We are so proud of her, and so glad that so many people were touched by her incredible life. We love you, Molly. We miss you already.”
Several of McGovern’s colleagues issued statements offering their condolences following the news — including Molly’s former boss, Rep. Raskin, whose own son,Tommy, died at age 25 in December 2020.

As rates of colorectal cancer soar in adults younger than 50—with the American Cancer Society reporting it to be the leading cause of cancer death among such men and the second-leading among such women—scientists have been searching for the cause. Researchers might have just stumbled upon a potential answer without trying.
A team of researchers led by the University of California San Diego has just identified the bacterial toxin colibactin as a potential colorectal cancer culprit. The findings, published in the journal Nature, revealed that childhood exposure to this toxin, which is produced by certain strains of the bacteria E. coli, could cause mutations in the DNA of the colon that increase the risk of developing colorectal cancer before age 50.
“When we started this study, we weren’t looking to answer this specific question,” says Ludmil Alexandrov, lead author of the study and professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at UC San Diego and a member of UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. Initially, Alexandrov’s team was looking more broadly at colorectal cancer—when they discovered a difference in cancer cells among younger and older patients.
“We were very surprised to see that there was a bacteria, and that bacteria was generating mutations,” he tells Fortune.
