I know this may seem odd but the Pope is really like an extension of the 12 fallowers of God so on is the thing. The position was handed down over the years is the thing to who was seen as the most capable to lead the Christian church. This later became more formalized in structure. They are consider by the Catholic community the closest living person to God. It is important to understand that they are not maybe seen as this by all Christians communities so on. However they all I would hope or at lest show respect in this way to a man that devote their lives to God.
