China Seizes Disputed Reef In South China Sea, Next To Key Philippines Military Base

Sunday, Apr 27, 2025 - 02:55 PM

While the nevertrump world, which includes the entire US mainstream media, and a sizable portion of the US population are rooting for China in the ongoing transpacific trade war, China quietly seized a disputed reef just miles away from the Philippines’ most important military outpost in the South China Sea, in a sharp escalation of a regional dispute with the Philippines, raising the risk of a new military stand-off between the two rival claimants.

According to the FT, the China Coast Guard “implemented maritime control and exercised sovereign jurisdiction” over Sandy Cay this month, the military channel of state broadcaster CCTV reported on Saturday. It released images of four officers, wearing all black and holding the Chinese flag, declaring sovereignty over the reef in the Spratly Islands.

Moderna is facing suspension from Britain’s pharmaceutical trade association for a string of breaches relating to its covid vaccines

By Rhoda Wilson on April 27, 2025

Moderna, the Covid vaccine maker, is facing potential suspension from Britain’s pharmaceutical trade body, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (“APBI”), due to a string of breaches of the regulatory code, which have brought discredit upon the industry, The Telegraph reported yesterday.

Moderna is set to be audited by the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority (“PMCPA”) to assess its compliance systems, and if found to be lacking, Moderna could ultimately be suspended or expelled from the APBI, a measure that has only been taken nine times in the past 40 years.

The breaches include representatives of the company offering children £1,500 and teddy bears to take part in covid vaccine trials, which is prohibited under the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) regulations, as well as misleading regulators about when it first became aware of the financial incentives to children.

Moderna was also found to have failed to disclose a senior employee’s links to the company in articles and tweets promoting its covid injection. “A senior employee was [ ] found to have co-authored three articles, including one with Nadhim Zahawi, the former vaccines minister, which promoted Moderna’s covid vaccine without disclosing he worked for the company. He also sent promotional tweets from a personal account without revealing his role,” The Telegraph said. This amounted to advertising the vaccine and was viewed as unacceptable by the PMCPA.

The PMCPA has ruled that Moderna has shown a lack of transparency and has made ten new breaches of the code. However, as Esther McVey MP has stated, the regulator has no real power to impose appropriate fines or other meaningful penalties, which has led to a lack of public trust in the pharmaceutical industry and its regulators.

Molly Kingsley, the founder of UsForThem, has expressed concern over Moderna’s disregard for the regulatory system and its prioritisation of profit over health and safety.

The APBI has the power to suspend or expel Moderna, which would be a significant blow to the company, and the PMCPA’s audit and potential sanctions will be closely watched, with the outcome expected to have significant implications for Moderna’s reputation and operations.

Social media can negatively impact your mental health; learn how to protect yourself

By Rhoda Wilson on April 27, 2025

Online interactions confuse self-perception and trigger or amplify delusional thinking, especially in those already at risk for psychosis. People with delusion-prone disorders, including body image issues and narcissism, are more likely to overuse social media, worsening symptoms.

Most mental health tools ignore social media use, leading to missed diagnoses and ineffective support. You can protect your mental well-being online by tracking emotional triggers, curating your feed and prioritising real-world connections. Cutting back on social media use builds self-awareness and emotional resilience while rewiring habits that support a healthy identity.

Three Simple Steps to Protect Your Mental Health Online

  1. Know your triggers. Take a moment. Think about your last social media session. Did you walk away feeling:

Happy and connected?

Or anxious, jealous and drained?

Your feelings are the key to understanding what triggers you. Keep a short journal for one week. Each night, write down:

How much time you spent online.

What platforms you used.

How you felt afterward (1 to 10 scale).

After seven days, look for patterns. You’ll quickly see what helps you – and what hurts you.

  1. Curate with care. Your feed is like your personal space. Would you invite toxic people into your home? Of course not. So why let them into your mind? Here are ways to clean up your feed:

Follow accounts that promote kindness, real bodies and positive habits.

Mute or unfollow pages that trigger comparison or fear.

Ask yourself: Does this make me feel better or worse?

This isn’t about living in a bubble. It’s about protecting your peace.

  1. Reclaim real life. Nothing replaces real, in-person connection. A text message can’t match a warm hug. A “like” won’t replace laughter. Here’s what you can do:

Set a timer and take regular screen breaks.

Call a friend instead of messaging.

Join a local group, class or volunteer opportunity.
