I hate the fact this guy is my Senator. I challenged him via email, how are you going to represent conservative supporters of PDJT and he assured me he would do his job for conservatives and now he’s getting on the impeachment bandwagon of rusty nails. Rogue Prosecutors’ Fate: What Goes Around, Comes Around | Victor Davis Hanson

I learn a lot when VDH compares what’s happening today, happened in history.

What happened to the rogue prosecutors that tried to throw Donald Trump in jail?

Jack Smith received over $140,000 in free legal services from Covington & Burling before resigning, following Donald Trump’s comeback victory.

Fani Willis was removed from the 2020 election case against President Donald Trump by the George Court of Appeals last December.

Letitia James is being accused of mortgage fraud.

Bottom line: These prosecutors spent the last four years telling the American people that “no one is above the law,” and “all of  these people felt that they were above the law. And that invisible hand of Nemesis, or God, or karma struck them down”, argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words:”

“They have exceeded what the Greeks called “hubris.” They were arrogant. They were overweening. They were self-righteous. They kept bragging, in the case of James or Willis, as political animals, "We're going to do this. We're going to get Trump.” And then these forces in the universe said, "This is wrong and we're going to correct it.

‘Real de-Nazification’ would include all Europe – Medvedev

A regime similar to Kiev’s must not be allowed to take root in any nation, the former Russian president has said

The rebirth of Nazism cannot be allowed in any nation, and Europe may need an international de-Nazification effort, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said.

The senior official, currently serving as deputy chair of the Russian Security Council, addressed the threat of Nazi ideology during a public lecture in Moscow on Tuesday, in which he outlined Moscow’s foreign policy priorities.

He characterized the destruction of the “Kiev neo-Nazi regime” as a necessary outcome of the Ukraine conflict, before arguing for broader “decisive action by multiple states.”

”All measures need to be taken to ensure that such regimes never arise in any other nation. The price is too high,” Medvedev emphasized.

A real de-Nazification is required. Nazism needs to be rooted out not only in Ukraine, but in all of Europe.

The senior official also ridiculed claims in some Western nations that Russia has plans to attack NATO members, calling the narrative “nonsense.” He claimed it was invented by relevant governments to explain their compliance with US demands to ramp up defense spending, as well as to scapegoat Russia for economic problems that their nations are now.

Medvedev stressed the distinction between the current Ukrainian government, whom hebranded “bloody freaks”and the Ukrainian state, sayingthat its future was uncertain.

Officials inKiev are “cutthroatswho are sending peaceful citizens of their own nation to the slaughter without a second thought,” andare not thus qualified to govern Ukraine, Medvedev stated. He stressed that “a regime founded on neo-Nazi ideology… has no right to exist.”

Ukrainian statehood may survive the current clash, Medvedev said, noting that he personally isskeptical based on what he views as its lack of utility to Western nations. If the country persists, it must not be allowed to join any military bloc hostile towards Russia, he stressed.

Russia’s victory in the conflict, which Medvedevconsiders inevitable, will serve “as the first step towards a sustainable peace in Europe and the creation” of a fairer multipolar world.

Trump abandons Ukraine election demand – US state media

Vladimir Zelensky’s presidential term expired last May

The US is no longer pushing for Vladimir Zelensky to hold new elections despite his mandate ending last May,state-funded Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) has reported, citing European diplomats familiar with the matter.

Zelensky has used martial law to delay holding new elections and most recently, on April 16, the Ukrainian parliament extended martial law for another three months.

During a public spat in February, US President Donald Trump branded Zelensky “a dictator without elections” and claimed that he was deeply unpopular at home. Zelensky responded by arguing that Trump was misinformed, later confirming that no election would be called before the conflict with Russia is resolved.

In a story published on Sunday, RFE/RL Europe editor Rikard Jozwiak citeddiplomats as saying that the call for new elections “has quietly disappeared from American talking points after it was initially mentioned as a potential condition.” (We haven’t heard this in the U.S., so that must mean the CIA are still controlling RFE)

Trump’s “final offer” reportedly includes US recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea, as well as freezing the conflict along the current front line and acknowledging Moscow’s control over large parts of the four former Ukrainian regions that voted to join Russia. The counterproposal put forward by Ukraine and its European backers calls for discussions about territories only after “a full and unconditional ceasefire,” according to Reuters.Neither of the documents cited by the media mentions elections.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that he does not consider Zelensky the legitimate ruler of Ukraine and argued that his status could be an obstacle to signing a peace deal. Russian officials have insisted that, in accordance with Ukraine’s Constitution, parliament remains the only legal authority in the country until new elections are held. Ukrainian officials, including Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, have rejected Moscow’s interpretation of the Constitution.

Reacting to the extension of martial law, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov suggested thatZelensky’s government was clinging to power and “trying to maintain its flimsy structure.”

West ‘delirious with nuclear apocalypse scenarios’ – Putin aide

The leaders of European NATO members can’t accept their declining relevance, Nikolay Patrushev has said

European NATO members are risking nuclear war by escalating military tensions with Russia, according to Nikolay Patrushev, national security adviser to President Vladimir Putin.

Patrushev accused Western powers of “deploying their military machine against Russia and becoming delirious with nuclear apocalypse scenarios.”The destabilization is originating from Brussels, Berlin, Paris and London, the senior official told TASS in an interview published on Tuesday.

”For a second consecutive year, NATO is conducting exercises at our borders at a scale unseen in decades,” Patrushev said. “They are training for conducting a broad offensive from Vilnius to Odessa, seizing [the Russian exclave] Kaliningrad Region, imposing a naval blockade in the Baltic and the Black Seas, and executing preventive strikes on the staging locations of Russian nuclear deterrence forces.”

Patrushev, who formerly served as secretary of Russia’s Security Council, described the world as teetering on the brink, facing either a “new bloodbath” reminiscent of World War II or the emergence of “a fair world order where every nation enjoys sovereignty and security.” He attributed the actions of Western politicians to their refusal to accept the decline of a system centered around their nations.

The EU intends to borrow hundreds of billions of euros to fund a substantial militarization of its member states, justifying the move with claims of impending Russian aggression within the coming years.

Moscow has denied having any aggressive intentions towards the US-led military bloc, and has accused it of encroaching on Russian borders in violation of promises made to the USSR. Russian officials view the Ukraine conflict as a NATO proxy war aimed at undermining their nation's development.

Kremlin warns of media disinformation on Ukraine talks

Commenting on recent reports in the press about a US peace proposal, Dmitry Peskov has said most of them are not true

The vast majority of media claims about diplomatic efforts by Russia and the US to resolve the Ukraine conflict are not true, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said.

Speaking to Russian reporters, Peskov stated that while an “enormous number of publications” have written stories on a peace process,it is a rare occasion “if such reports and when such reports correspond to reality.”

Discussions over such a sensitive topic cannot take place publicly, peskov insisted.

“It is only possible in a closed, discrete mode,”the Kremlin representative added.

Commenting on the current state of Russia-US relations, Peskov said thatMoscow and Washington “have, first of all, unblocked bilateral relations. Dialogue has gotten underway,” which is “in and of itself, undoubtedly an achievement.”

The official told reporters that Russia and US are exchanging relevant information, with Moscow’s latest decision to declare a Victory Day truce being no exception.

When asked during a press briefing last Monday about media claims of Washington’s reported readiness to officially recognize Russian sovereignty over Crimea,Peskov similarly cautioned that “anonymous claims should be evaluated with utmost caution.” By the same token, “the search for a peaceful resolution must not be conducted publicly,” he said.

During an interview with CBS on Sunday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that US President Donald Trump had never approached Moscow over the status of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant – something that Axios and the Wall Street Journal had previously claimed.

”We cannot speculate on something which is really not being mentioned during the negotiations,” the diplomat stressed.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Politico last week of publishing a “piece of fiction” that was “unequivocally false.”President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, used stronger language, dismissing the same article as “fake crap.”

The piece, citing “five people familiar with the discussions” and published last Wednesday, stated that Washington was considering lifting sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream gas pipeline and “other Russian assets in Europe” as part of its peace efforts. Politico singled out Witkoff as the “main proponent” of the move, while describing Rubio as opposed.

Western Europe waging ‘quiet war’ against Trump – ex-Russian president

The struggle will continue even after the US leader puts the EU and UK in their place, Dmitry Medvedev has said

Western European leaders are waging a “quiet war” against US President Donald Trump, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has claimed.

Washington’s current tariffs standoff and disagreements on NATO spending with the EU and UKis not only an economic but also an ideological conflict, Medvedev, who currently serves as the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, said on Tuesday.

“I have no doubt that [Western] Europe will be put in its place[by the US], butat the same time the Europeans will continue their quiet war against Trump. They will try to wage a war against him on all possible fronts, observing the rules of decency on the outside. What will come of it – we will see,” he stated.

The tensions between Washington on one side and the EU and UK on the otherare explained by the fact that “in [Western] Europe, neo-globalist forces are still in power, trying to pursue the previous course, including the course against our country… But in the US, other forces have taken the reins. These are conservative, more traditionalist forces that want to calm the situation and,in a certain sense, achieve reconciliation with Russia,” the former president said at the ‘Knowledge. First’ educational event in Moscow.

“One does not need to be a prophet" to predict that the US will likely prevail against Western Europe, he stressed.

“It will happen because the American economy is much stronger than the European one, despite the fact that the latter is also a huge economy. Nevertheless, it is still a segmented conglomerate of countries, even with the existence of the EU.And I am not even talking about the fact that an overwhelming majority of military forces and armaments are concentrated in the US,”Medvedev explained.

(They will never stop, even as the continent falls, their arrogance as Europeans won’t allow them to be allies, especially with Trump.)

Hogwash to blame Trump from the EU

EU fears Trump will quit Ukraine – FT

The US president could use a lack of progress in peace talks as an “excuse” to walk away, unnamed officials in the bloc have told the paper

EU officials are worried that US President Donald Trump could be on the verge of abandoning his efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine conflict, the Financial Times has reported. (Their favorite propaganda outlet)

During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly promised to swiftly put an end to the fighting between Moscow and Kiev. However, after the first 100 days of his second term in the White House he has not been able to get the two sides to engage in direct talks with each other or agree to a full 30-day ceasefire proposed by Washington.

Russia’s reluctance to give in to key demands by the US and Ukraine and the overall “complexity of the conflict” have made Trump rethink his commitment to the peace process, the FT reported on Monday, citing unnamed Western European officials.

One official suggested that Trump was “setting up a situation where he gives himself excusesto walk away and leave it to Ukraine and us [EU] to fix.(The EU should fix it, they don’t want the war to stop. NATO wants it to go past 2030)

Anothersource, who is said to have been briefed on the discussions, claimed that US officials are “getting concerned that they are really coming back with nothing in talks with Russia” and have begun floating ideas for a deal that would fit into Trump’s quick timeline for achieving peace. (This is no secret, Rubio said it publicly last week.)

The US president’s “impatience” when it comes to ending the conflict is a “problem,” the source added. (Bullshit!)

A senior Ukrainian officialalso told the FT he believesthere is a “serious possibility” that Washington could abandon Kiev.(so put your boy Zelensky in to negotiate)

Trump said on Sunday that he wants a deal between Russia and Ukraine to be achieved within “two weeks or less.” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned at the weekend that the US could disengage from the peace process if it does not see rapid progress in discussions. Washington is now trying to make a “determination about whether this is an endeavor that we want to continue to be involved in,” Rubio told NBC News’ Meet the Press.

Russian officials have said on numerous occasions that Moscow is ready to begin talks with Kiev without any preconditions. However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on Monday that so far Russia has not seen any steps from Ukraine that would signal its eagerness to start negotiating.

How the NAFTA/USMCA 2025 Review Underpins President Trump Remarks on Canada1/2or 3

April 28, 2025 | Sundance |

Only President Trump could get the Canadians to vote for an exit to the USMCA, and he did it brilliantly.

To understand President Trump’s position on Canada, you have to go back to the 2016 election and President Trump’s position on the NAFTA renegotiation. If you did not follow the subsequent USMCA process, this might be the ah-ha moment you need to understand Trump’s strategy.

During the 2016 election President Trump repeatedly said he wanted to renegotiate NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement. Both Canada and Mexico were reluctant to open the trade agreement to revision, but ultimately President Trump had the authority and support from an election victory to do exactly that.

In order to understand the issue, you must remember PresidentTrump, Commerce SecretaryWilbur Rossand U.S. Trade RepresentativeRobert Lighthizer each agreed the NAFTA agreement was fraught with problemsand was best addressed by scrapping itand creating two seperate bilateral trade agreements. One between the USA and Mexico, and one between the USA and Canada.

In the decades that preceded the 2017 push to redo the trade pact, Canada had restructured their economy to:(1) align with progressive climate change; and (2)take advantage of the NAFTA loophole. The Canadian government did not want to reengage in a new trade agreement.

Canada has deindustrialized much of their manufacturing base to support the ‘environmental’ aspirations of their progressive politicians.Instead, Canada became an importer of component goods where companies then assembled those importsinto finished products to enter the U.S. market without tariffs.Working with Chinese manufacturing companies, Canada exploited the NAFTA loophole.

Justin Trudeau was strongly against renegotiating NAFTA, and stated he and Chrystia Freeland would not support reopening the trade agreement. President Trump didn’t care about the position of Canada and was going forward. Trudeau said he would not support it. Trump focused on the first bilateral trade agreement with Mexico.

When the U.S. and Mexico had agreed to terms of the new trade deal and 80% of the agreement was finished, representatives fromthe U.S. Chamber of Commerce informed Trudeau that his position was weakand if the U.S. and Mexico inked their deal,Canada would be shut out.

The U.SChamber of Commerce was upset because they were kept out of all the detailsof the agreement between the U.S. and Mexico. In actuality theU.S CoC was effectively blocked from any participation.

When they went to talk to the Canadians theCoC was warning them about what was likely to happen. NAFTA would end, the U.S. and Mexico would have a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA), and then Trump was likely to turn to Trudeau and say NAFTA is dead, now we need to negotiate a separate deal for U.S-Canada.

Trudeau was tolda direct bilateral trade agreement between the U.S and Canada was theworst possible scenario for the Canadian government. Canada would lose access to the NAFTA loophole and Canada’s entire economy was no longer in a position to negotiate against the size of the USA. Trump would win every demand.

Following the warning, Trudeau went to visit Nancy Pelosi to find out if congress was likely to ratify a new bilateral trade agreement between the U.S and Mexico. Pelosi warned Trudeau there was enough political support for the NAFTA elimination from both parties.Yes, the bilateral trade agreement was likely to find support.

2/2

Realizing what was about to happen, Prime Minister Trudeau and Chrystia Freeland quickly changed approach and began to request discussions and meetings with USTR Robert Lighthizer.Keep in mind more than 80 to 90% of the agreement was already done by the U.S. and Mexico teams. Both President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and President Trump were now openly talking about when it would be finalized and signed.

Nancy Pelosi stepped in to help Canada get back into the agreement by leveraging her Democrats.Trump agreed to let Canada engage, and Lighthizer agreed to hold discussions with Chrystia Freelandon a tri-lateral trade agreement that ultimately became the USMCA.

The key points to remember are: (1) Trump, Ross and Lighthizer would prefer two separate bilateral trade agreements because the U.S. import/export dynamic was entirely different between Mexico and Canada. Andbecause of the loophole issue, (2) a five-year review was put into the finished USMCA trade agreement. The USMCA was signed on November 30, 2018, and came into effect on July 1, 2020.

TIMELINE: The USMCA is now up for review (2025) and renegotiation in 2026!

This timeline is the key to understanding where President Donald Trump stands today. The review and renegotiation is his goal.

President Trump said openly he was going torenegotiate the USMCA, leveraging border security (Mexico) and reciprocity (Canada) within it.

Following the 2024 presidential election, Prime Minister JustinTrudeau traveled to Mar-a-Lago and said if President Trump was to make the Canadian government face reciprocal tariffs, open the USMCA trade agreements to force reciprocity, and/or balance economic relations on non-tariff issues, then Canada would collapse upon itself economically and cease to exist.

In essence, Canada cannot surviveas a free and independent north American nation, without receiving all the one-way benefits from the U.S. economy.

To wit, President Trump then said, if Canada cannot survive in a balanced rules environment, including putting together their own military and defenses (which it cannot), then Canada should become the 51st U.S state. It was following this meeting that President Trump started emphasizing this point and shocking everyone in the process.

However, what everyone missed was the strategy Trump began outlining when contrast against the USMCA review and renegotiation window.

Again,Trump doesn’t like the tri-lateral trade agreement. President Trump would rather have two separate bilateral agreements; one for Mexico and one for Canada. Multilateral trade agreements are difficult to manage and police.

How was President Trump going to get Canada to (a) willingly exit the USMCA; and (b) enter a bilateral trade agreement?

The answer was through trade and tariff provocations, while simultaneously hitting Canada with the shock and awe aspect of the 51st state.

The Canadian government and the Canadian people fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Trump’s position on the Canadian election outcome had nothing to do with geopolitical friendships and everything to do with America-First economics. When asked about the election in Canada President Trump said, “I don’t care. I think it’s easier to deal, actually, with a liberal and maybe they’re going to win, but I don’t really care.”

By voting emotionally, the Canadian electorate have fallen into President Trump’s USMCA exit trap. Prime Minister Carney will make the exit much easier. Carney now becomes the target of increased punitive coercion until such a time as the USMCA review is begun, and Canada is forced to a position of renegotiation.

Trump never wanted Canada as a 51st state.

Trump always wanted a U.S-Canada bilateral trade agreement.

Mark Carney said the era of U.S-Canadian economic ties “are officially declared severed.”

Canada has willingly exited the USMCA trade agreement at the perfect time for President Trump.

Why do you think Mexico stayed quiet?

Can you see it now?

Trump Tariffs Causing Serious Problems for Swiss National Bank (and Globalists)

April 28, 2025 | Sundance |

Hat Tip very dear friend of the Treehouse, Zurich Mike.

Switzerland is in a conundrum. More specifically, the Swiss National Bank is stuck betwixt two points that are also playing out in other stable western countries.

Exports to the USA account for over ten percent of the Swiss manufacturing base.

TheTrump tariffs are putting pressure on Switzerland to drop the value of their currencyas an offset to retain competitive pricing. However, simultaneous to the tariffs, the Swiss Franc is being purchased by global investment groups and sovereign foreign countries as a safe harbor due to the stability of the currency, which is driving up the value of the franc.

The Swiss Franc is now at the highest point against the U.S dollar in decades. One franc is worth 1.21 dollars. This makes their exports cost even more. The Swiss government desperately needs to lower the value of their currency. The Swiss central bank has already dropped interest rates to 0.25% and is now contemplating negative interest rates as a result.

SWITZERLAND – […] That is why many are speculating on a reaction from the Swiss National Bank (SNB). SNB Director Martin Schlegel could weaken the currency by selling the Swiss franc against the dollar and euro in order to support the export-oriented economy.

“But this could provoke a backlash from Trump if he perceives the SNB’s intervention as currency manipulation. Evenduring Trump’s first term in office, Switzerland was on the US list of suspected currency manipulators.

[…] Interest rate cuts in the key interest rate are considered a diplomatically safe measure to control the franc. It defines the interest rate at which commercial banks can borrow money from the SNB. “If the SNB is dissatisfied with the strong franc and remains limited in foreign exchange interventions, lower interest rates are the only option,” says Francesco Pesole of Bank ING.

“Interest rates have already fallen sharply recently. It was only at the end of March that Schlegel lowered the key interest rate to 0.25 percent. The market currently expects a probability of around 80 percent that the key interest rate will fall to zero at the next meeting in June. Yields on short-term government bonds have already fallen into negative territory in recent days. (read more)

If interest rates go into negative territory, savers will be required to pay the bank for storing their money. “Until 2022, various Swiss banks required their customers to pay negative interest on their accounts.”

Meanwhile in other news from Europe, as the Chinese economy contracts, heavy industrial equipment -once again- becomes useless, theEuropeans are worried that China will dump cranes and other industrial equipment into their economy.

BRUSSELS, April 28 (Reuters) – The European Commission said on Monday it hadimposed duties of up to 66.7% on imports of Chinese machinesthat lift construction workers after concluding that the producers were benefiting from unfair subsidies and selling at artificially low prices.

The extra duties on Chinese mobile access equipment (MAE) will range from 20.6% to 66.7%, the Commission said, as it sought to protect domestic producers in the EU market worth more than 1 billion euros ($1.14 billion) per year.

The tariffs are the latest in a series of EU anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties focused on Chinese imports, including a high-profile investigation into Chinese-built electric vehicles, which culminated last October.

The EU executive, which conducted the investigation, said Chinese MAE producers had benefited from preferential financing, grants, state provision of inputs at below-market rates. (read more)

White House blasts ‘hostile’ Amazon over tariff cost report; company downplays change

Kevin Breuninger

White House blasts Amazon over tariff cost report: 'Hostile and political act'

• The White House on Tuesday slammed Amazon for reportedly planning to display the cost of President Donald Trump’s tariffs next to the total price of products on its site.

• “This is hostile and political act by Amazon,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters.

• “Why didn’t Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?” Leavitt asked.

She added, “This is another reason why Americans should buy American.”

Shares of the online retail giant founded by Jeff Bezos dropped more than 2% in premarket trading immediately following the remarks.

An Amazon spokesperson told CNBC later Tuesday morning that the company was only ever considering listing tariff charges on some products for Amazon Haul, its budget-focused shopping section.

“The team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store has considered listing import charges on certain products,” the spokesperson said. “This was never a consideration for the main Amazon siteand nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties.”

The Trump administration’s aggressive swipe came in response to Punchbowl News’ report earlier Tuesday morningthat Amazon will soon show consumers how much of an item’s cost comes from tariffs.

The amount added as a result of tariffs will be displayed right next to each product’s total listed price, a person familiar with the plan told the news outlet.

A reporter in Tuesday’s press briefing asked Leavitt and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent if they agreedthat Amazon’s move is a “crystal-clear demonstration that it’s the American consumer, and not China, who is going to have to pay for these policies.”

Leavitt opted to respond because, she said, she “just got off the phone with the president about Amazon’s announcement.”

Leavitt also said the company’s decision was “not a surprise,” saying Reuters“recently” wrote that Amazon has “partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm.”

She held up a print-out of a Reuters report from December 2021 thatAmazon complied with an edict from Beijing’s governmentthat it remove customer reviews and ratings from a book of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s speeches and writings.

Amazon is not the first retailer to put a spotlight on how new tariffs are changing its prices.

China-based fast fashion giants Shein and Temu have both added massive surcharges in recent days. Temu now includes a line on its checkout tally showing an “import charge” that adds around 145% for each item.

Leavitt’s response could signal an emerging rift between Trump and Bezos, who has joined other billionaires and tech leaders in cozying up to the Republican president since he won the 2024 election.

After frequently catching Trump’s ire in years past, Bezos in December expressed optimism about the Republican’s second term, saying he believes Trump has grown calmer and more confident.

The same month, Amazon donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund. Bezos later attended Trump’s inauguration.

Bezos drew further accusations of seeking to court Trump when he forced the Washington Post, which he owns, to restrict its opinion section to publishing only pieces in defense of “personal liberties and free markets.”

But Amazon’s business has come under strain in the face of Trump’s sweeping tariffs plans —especially his 145% duty on China, where up to 70% of Amazon goods are sourced, according to Wedbush Securities.

As Amazon merchants have started hiking priceson a wide array of goods in response to the tariffs, the company has started emailing the sellers to gauge the impact of Trump’s agenda.

Leavitt, after delivering her statement on Amazon, was asked if Bezos is “still a Trump supporter.”

“Look, I will not speak to the president’s relationships with Jeff Bezos, but I will tell you that this is certainly a hostile and political action by Amazon,” she said.

(People were asking when the Trump and the Billionaires relationships will sour, I guess it’s now)

Pierre Poilievre Loses Own Seat in Canada Election Humbling

(He shouldn’t have mimicked Carney of criticism of Trump)

Published Apr 29, 2025 at 5:05 AM EDT

Canada's Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre lost his own seat in Monday's election, capping off a devastating night for his party as they were decisively beaten by Mark Carney's Liberal Party.

Poilievre, who has been leader of the Official Opposition and leader of the Conservative Party since 2022, suffered a shock defeat to the Liberal party's Bruce Fanjoy in his own riding of Carleton,a seat he has held as a member of Parliament since 2004.

With 264 out of 266 polls reporting, Fanjoy leads Poilievre by 3,793 votes and has 42,374 votes so far compared to Poilievre's 38,581.

Why It Matters

The ousting of Poilievre, who just a few weeks ago was heavily favored in the polls to become the next Prime Minister of Canada, marks a spectacular collapsein the fortunes of the party as Mark Carney's Liberals capped a stunning turnaround.

Poilievre, who had wanted the election to be a referendum on former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, saw his plans derailed at the start of this year after President Donald Trump made annexation threatsand started a trade war with Canada, Trudeau resigned and Carney, a two-time central banker, become the Liberal Party's leader and prime minister. The election instead became a referendum on Donald Trump.

His loss in Carleton, a federal electoral district in the Ottawa area of Ontario, signaled deep voter dissatisfaction in a region where Conservatives have traditionally dominated, and where aLiberal Party has not had a Member of Parliament in 60 years.

What to Know

Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberal Party won Canada's federal election on Monday, though it is still not clear if they would win an outright majority — at least 172 seats— or would need to rely on one of the smaller parties to pass legislation.

The Liberals won with a campaign focused on economic stability, climate resilience, and strengthening democracy. Carney, 59, repeatedly emphasized his experience managing economic crises and distanced himself from partisan attacks.

Poilievre, known for his aggressive attacks on the media and federal institutions, struggled to appeal to undecided voters. In the final days of the campaign, leaked internal memos warned of slipping support in suburban ridings. His defeat in Carleton—a formerly safe Conservative seat—was emblematic of the broader national mood shift.

What People Are Saying

Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney, in his victory speech: "As I've been warning for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country. These are not idle threats," he said.

"President Trump is trying to break us so America can own us. That will never, ever happen. But we also must recognize the reality that our world has fundamentally changed."

Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre, in his concession speech: "To the millions of people who voted for the Conservative Party, and put their hopes and dreams in our vision. Thank you. It will be an honor to continue to fight for you and to be a champion of your cause as we go forward."

What's Next

Carney's Liberal Party is expected to win enough seats to form a government, but it is not yet clear if they will secure a majority.
