Gideon Saar has lashed out at the global body, as the International Court of Justice begins hearings over Gaza

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has demanded that the United Nations and its refugee agency UNRWA face trial at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) instead of Israel.

The UN top court began hearings on Monday on West Jerusalem’s role in the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The ICJ hearings aim to examine whether Israel’s ban on UNRWA, the agency that provides food, education and medical care to the residents of Gaza, violates international law, including the UN Charter.

Speaking at a news conference, Saar accused the UN of “double standards” and claimed that Israel had been subjected to “systematic persecution and delegitimization” by the international body.

“I accuse UNRWA, I accuse the UN, I accuse the secretary general, and I accuse all those that weaponized international law” of depriving his country of “its most basic right to defend itself,” Saar said, stating that it’s “the UN and UNRWA that should be on trial today, not Israel.”

The foreign minister went on to slam the New York-based institution as “a rotten, anti-Israel and antisemitic body.”

The Israeli government has refused to take part in the hearings, which are scheduled to run for a week and will hear evidence from 40 states and four international organizations.

A Palestinian representative told the court on Monday that Israel was killing and displacing civilians and targeting aid workers in Gaza. On Tuesday, a South African representative claimed that the “Palestinians are being subjected to atrocity, crimes, persecution, apartheid and genocide.”

Israel designated UNRWA a “terrorist organization” and cut ties with the agency in November. It has also claimed many of its workers have engaged in terrorism in recent years, including taking part in the October 7 deadly attack by Hamas on southern Israel, which triggered the offensive into Gaza.

Steve Benen, a producer of MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, writes a piece titled “GOP’s Ron Johnson peddles fringe 9/11 conspiracy theories, reaches new low.”

Benen accuses Johnson of having a history of “peddling bizarre and easily discredited nonsense” about a variety of subjects. He cites Johnson’s statements about 9/11 as being the most recent example. The article uses a mocking tone as Johnson is quoted on the rapid removal of evidence from the WTC site and other elements of the evidence.

“He did not appear to be kidding,” Benen writes.

Establishment media (and MSNBC is among the worst offenders) love to use descriptives like “bizarre” and “easily discredited” to discount dissenting positions because it saves them having to actually respond to facts.

This author wrote a two-part examination of the use of the “conspiracy theory” label that outlines the very tactics we see repeated every time a mainstream media outlet addresses challenges to the 9/11 official story. The first article, from 2022, was titled, “Hundreds of articles dismissing ‘conspiracy theories’ read like they follow a single script,” and the follow-up, from 2024, was “Demonization of 'conspiracy theories' now paints speech itself as ‘dangerous.’”

Included in those two articles is a list of 18 dishonest tactics the media use to suppress dissenting views. Many of those tactics have been used to mock Senator Johnson over his recent 9/11 comments.

Major Network Trump Coverage 92% Negative In First 100 Days

According to data compiled by the Media Research Center, 92% of the major network media coverage — throughout the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s second term — has been negative.

The MRC looked at coverage across the three major broadcast companies — ABC, CBS, and NBC — and set aside comments made by expressly partisan guests, whether they were in support of or opposition to the Trump administration. Instead, they only recorded “evaluative comments” made by those whose role with the networks suggests they are to behave in a non-partisan fashion: anchors, reporters, and experts.

This is the same rubric by which MRC graded the bias of networks covering former President Joe Biden in 2021 and of networks covering Trump during his first term in 2017 — and based on the data, Trump’s coverage has been even more negative during his second term than it was during his first.

“MRC analysts tallied 1,841 explicitly evaluative statements about President Trump and his Trump administration, of which 1,698 (92.2%) were negative vs. a mere 143 (7.8%) which were positive,” the report stated, noting that the data were pulled from some 899 stories about President Trump or his administration that aired during evening news broadcasts on ABC, CBS, and NBC between January 20 and April 9.

The biggest takeaway, according to the report, was the dramatic shift from the 59% positive coverage the same three networks offered former President Biden.

Another change of note was the focus on policies rather than Trump’s personality, which drove the 89% negative coverage Trump received in 2017. Major story topics included tariffs (361 minutes of coverage), the Department Of Government Efficiency (310 minutes) and illegal immigration (233 minutes) — and all showcased networks that stood in opposition to Trump’s positions and policies on those issues.

The data also pointed to a disparity between the way the public views President Trump and his policies — particularly with regard to illegal immigration, where recent polling indicates the majority of Americans largely favor Trump’s deportation plan. Despite that, the legacy networks’ messaging on the issue of illegal immigration has been 93% negative.

Trump fared better than a few associated with his administration, however.Elon Musk and DOGE saw 96% negative coverage, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s coverage was 100% negative.

Russian lawmakers advance bill to protect women from coerced abortions

The proposed legislation, which has cleared its second reading, seeks to impose fines on individuals who use deception, bribery, blackmail, or persistent persuasion to influence a woman’s decision to abort her baby.

Regional prosecutor Roman Tyutyunnik, who proposed the bill, has recommended fines ranging from 3,000 rubles ($34) to 50,000 rubles ($570) for violators.

The measure is part of a broader national shift aimed at reversing Russia’s declining birth rate, which has been exacerbated by an aging population, pandemic-related deaths, emigration, and the ongoing war in Ukraine, according to the Moscow Times.

If the measure receives final approval, Krasnoyarsk will become the 18th region in Russia to enact such restrictions, reflecting a growing trend toward regional abortion limits even as the federal government avoids an outright ban.

“Our priority is to create a safe environment for families and the value of having many children,” the Krasnoyarsk legislative assembly said.

This initiative comes as Russia sees a dramatic reduction in abortions nationwide. Hundreds of private clinics across 70 regions have stopped committing abortions in what officials have called a “voluntary” initiative the Russian Health Ministry is supporting.

Deadly Blast Reported At Alleged Defense Facility In Iran’s Isfahan

A large blast rocked the production hall of a company allegedly affiliated with Iran’s top security body and drone industries in the central city of Isfahan on April 29.

Initially, the regional director of the Emergency Management Department of Isfahan Province announced that one person was killed and two others sustained burns as a result of the blast at the production hall of the Ava Nar Parsian Chemical Industries company. Later, Iranian media reported that the death toll rose to two.

Iranian authorities are yet to reveal the cause of the deadly blast, which came just three days after a powerful explosion hit the Shahid Rajaei port in the city of Bandar Abbas had risen to at least 70, with more than 1,200 people injured.

Ava Nar Parsian Chemical Industries, according to its website, manufactures fireworks and gunpowder and operates under the supervision of Iran’s National Security Council, the country’s highest decision-making body on sensitive security matters.

Citing the official company filings, Iran International, a London-based Persian-language news channel with links to the Iranian opposition, reported that certain decisions at Ava Nar Parsian Chemical Industries fall under the authority of the “Intelligence Protection Organization for Weapons and Ammunition Management of Isfahan Province.”

The company is licensed to produce, trade, import, and export commercial, industrial, and chemical explosives, according to the channel.

In addition, British newspaper The Guardian reported in the past that the same complex where the blast took place housed the Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial Company, a key player in the Islamic Republic’s drone program with links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Two days earlier, the head of the Islamic Republic’s Infrastructure Communications Company said that the country foiled a massive cyber attack on its infrastructure.
