Actually before i knew he was a pedo I saw an interview that addressed your question. Dude has been a HUGE movie fan since childhood. Prolly watch more movies than anyone alive. Each of his flicks contains so many elements of so many old movies it's insane. I'm an old phart so I see more of that kind of thing in his movies that younger folks might The Double Feature he did was perfect (although it's my least favorite of his work) at capturing an old school drive-in double feature with bits of his talent thrown it. However, the thing I like his movies for is the dialog. It's non-stop and brilliant. Must be a bitch to have memorize all of it as an actor.
Still, the pedo aspect really ruins it for me now.
