King County public defender among 30 arrested after Antifa occupation of University of Washington building

"We are working with law enforcement and through our own disciplinary processes to ensure those responsible face appropriate consequences for their actions," said UW President Ana Marie Cauce.

On Monday, authorities arrested more than 30 individuals who seized and occupied the Interdisciplinary Engineering Building at the University of Washington to protest Israel and its war against Hamas terrorists. Among those arrested was a King County public defender and several affiliates of the left-wing extremist group Antifa. All of them were booked into local jails on criminal trespassing charges, with a bail set at $1,000, according to records.

It's unclear if the apprehended individuals were students and/or outside agitators. The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office said in a statement that more than two dozen protesters have been charged with gross misdemeanor offenses, and several of them have had initial court appearances. The majority of the protesters have already been released from custody, jail records show.

The University of Washington campus police released the names of the individuals who were taken into custody, identifying them as: Cade Jackson; Catherine Marie Brown; Claire "Jamie" Elizabeth Berger; Jonas Simms Piper; Brett Anthony Anton; Ricardo Colon-Galvez; Ty Olson Park; Lucy Belle Zern; Tayler Christine Hart; Kimaya Mahajan; Lea Keating; Roberta Lee Collison; Jade Chen Wu; Julia Claire Fraczek; Luisa Guadalupe Ortega Subdiaz; Yafate Yared; Ella Chenai Tunduwani; Akira Lynn Junyaprusert; Jessica Shutz; Giner Ann Newberry; Yasmin Ponsakaew Ahmed; Gina Sijia Liu; Bailey Cunningham Keen; Sam Sueoka; Finn Oliver Brown; Max Rulff; and Iman Tasbeet.

Sam Sueoka, one of the arrested individuals, has been identified as a King County public defender who has represented criminal anti-Israel protesters in the past. The KC Public Defenders Office declined to comment.

Ex-Trump NSC Official Fears OpenAI 'Completely Penetrated' By Multiple Spy Agencies

OpenAI, the world's most valuable artificial intelligence company, is likely being targeted by espionage from multiple nation-states, warns Josh Steinman, a former Trump National Security Council staffer and cybersecurity company founder.

"I would be willing to bet a large amount of information that OpenAI is completely penetrated by multiple intelligence agencies—and has been for a while,” Steinman, co-founder and CEO of Galvanick, a cybersecurity company building tools to secure industrial infrastructure and AI systems,

said in an interview with World of DaaS with Auren Hoffman.

When asked how companies can prevent espionage, Steinman conceded it's challenging but emphasized that rigorous and selective hiring practices are key. “You just have to be very mindful of who you’re hiring and where you are putting them in your company,” Steinman told Hoffman. “You need to be realistic about who your employees are.”

It Is Really Happening: The Numbers Show That U.S. Exports And U.S. Imports Are Both Collapsing Dramatically

Over the last several decades, the global economy has become more interconnected than ever, but now everything is changing. The flow of goods between the number one economic power on the planet and the number two economic power on the planet is absolutely imploding, and that is going to have enormous implications on both sides of the Pacific. I have written quite a bit about the dramatic decline of U.S. imports, but the numbers show that U.S. exports are falling precipitously as well. According to CNBC, there has been a 51 percent decline in exports at the Port of Portland and a 28 percent decline in exports at the Port of Tacoma…

What began as a rapid drop in U.S. imports as shippers cut orders from manufacturing partners around the world has now extended into a nationwide export slump, with the U.S. agricultural sector and top farm products including soybeans, corn and beef taking the hardest hit.

The latest trade data shows that a slide in U.S. exports to the world, and China in particular, that began in January now extends to most U.S. ports, according to trade tracker Vizion, which analyzed U.S. export container bookings for the five-week period before President Donald Trump’s tariffs began and the five weeks after the tariffs took effect.

The farming sector has been warning of a “crisis” and ports data is showing more evidence of lack of ability to move product out to global markets. The Port of Portland, Oregon, tops the list with a 51% decrease in exports, while the Port of Tacoma, Washington, a large agricultural export port, has seen a 28% decrease. Tacoma’s top destinations for corn, soybeans and other ag exports include Japan, China and South Korea.

Overall, there are 10 major U.S. ports that have already experienced a double digit decline in export volume.

Agricultural exports are being hit harder than anything else. Needless to say, this is extremely bad news for U.S. farmers.

The Trump administration has already been discussing a vigorous aid package for farmers that are being affected by this downturn.

It appears that they certainly could use the help.

Meanwhile, imports from China are also declining dramatically…

Imports from China have fallen dramatically since Trump imposed steep tariffs – particularly since last month, when the tit-for-tat trade war sent the tariff on most Chinese goods up to 145%.

“This week, we’re down about 35% compared to the same time last year, and these cargo ships coming in are the first ones to be attached to the tariffs that were levied against China and other locations last month,” Gene Seroka, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles, told CNN Tuesday. “That’s why the cargo volume is so light.”

The drop-off in imports from China on the boats now coming into port is more than 50%, Seroka said. Many importers have canceled previous orders because US businesses aren’t interested in paying the steep tariff, which can more than double the price of Chinese goods.

Rabbis from 40 countries strategize mass Israeli expat surge after Oct. 7

Over 100 Chabad rabbis gathered last week in Montenegro to discuss the mass migration of tens of thousands of Israelis following Oct. 7.

Faced with the mass migration of tens of thousands of Israelis abroad in the aftermath of the October 7 Hamas attacks and the ongoing war, more than 100 Chabad rabbis from 40 countries gathered last week in Budva, Montenegro, to plan an urgent response to this growing diaspora challenge.

According to Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics, approximately 82,700 Israelis left the country in 2024 – the highest number since the country’s founding. Nearly half (48%) were aged 20 to 45, while 27% were children or teens. The cities with the highest emigration rates included Tel Aviv, Haifa, Netanya, and Jerusalem.

The two-day conference brought together Chabad emissaries from across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, focusing on how to support Israeli and Jewish émigrés seeking spiritual and communal connection. Emissaries described an uptick in demand for Jewish identity resources, reporting the launch of new youth and young adult initiatives, including CKids, CTeen, and CYP, even in countries where Jews have historically concealed their identity.

Security remained a core concern at the conference. Rabbi Moshe Fleishman of the Chabad World Assistance (CWA) organization delivered a lecture on safety protocols and operational procedures, which participants described as “mandatory” for all emissaries and their spouses.

“Our quiet streets turned into a hub of Jewish continuity,” said Rabbi Aidelkopf, who hosted the gathering. “We shared challenges, discussed solutions, and mapped out the future of Jewish life in the region.”

Former NYCHA Superintendent Sentenced To 18 Months In Prison After Trial Conviction For Bribery And Extortion Offenses

Jay Clayton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that HECTOR COLON, a former superintendent for the New York City Housing Authority (“NYCHA”), was sentenced today to 18 months in prison for soliciting and accepting approximately $30,000 in bribes from contractors in exchange for awarding repair contracts or approving repair work worth at least approximately $400,000. COLON’s sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman, who also presided over a one-week trial at which COLON was convicted of bribery and extortion under color of official right.

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said: “Hector Colon abused his position at NYCHA to demand bribes from contractors for his personal gain. The women and men of this Office are committed to pursuing those who abuse the public’s trust.”

According to the Indictment, public court filings, statements made in court, and evidence presented during trial:

NYCHA is the largest public housing authority in the country, providing housing to New Yorkers across the City and receiving over $1.5 billion in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) every year. When repairs or construction work at NYCHA housing require the use of outside contractors, services must typically be purchased via a bidding process. However, when the value of a contract was under a certain threshold, designated staff at NYCHA developments, including superintendents, could hire a contractor of their choosing without soliciting multiple bids. With either type of contract, a NYCHA employee needed to certify that the work was satisfactorily completed in order for the contractor to receive payment from NYCHA.

COLON, a superintendent at three different NYCHA developments in Manhattan between 2018 and 2022, demanded and accepted cash in exchange for NYCHA contracts. He required contractors to pay bribes in order to be awarded the contracts or required bribe payments after the contractor finished the work and needed a NYCHA employee to sign off on the completed job so that the contractor could be paid by NYCHA. COLON typically demanded 10% of the contract value—between $500 and $1,000, depending on the size of the contract. In total, COLON demanded and accepted approximately $30,000 dollars in bribes in exchange for awarding no-bid contracts or approving payment on previously awarded contracts worth approximately $400,000.

Of the 70 individual NYCHA employees charged with bribery and extortion offenses who were arrested in February 2024, 62 have pled guilty, and three have been convicted after trial. COLON is the second of the three NYCHA employees convicted after trial to be sentenced. The cases of the five remaining defendants, who are each presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty, remain pending.

Three CBP Officers Indicted for Allowing Undocumented Individuals to Enter the U.S. Through Their Inspection Lanes; Two Accused of Taking Bribes

SAN DIEGO – U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers Farlis Almonte, Ricardo Rodriguez and Kairy Stephania Quiñonez are charged in an indictment with allowing vehicles with undocumented individuals to pass through their lanes into the U.S. without inspection while working at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

The indictment alleges that Almonte, Rodriguez, and Quiñonez revealed their lane assignments and hours they were scheduled to work the primary inspection booths at the San Ysidro Port of Entry so that co-conspirators would know when it was safe to transport undocumented individuals across the border with impunity - sometimes using code words to gain admittance.

According to the indictment, the defendants falsely reported in the Transportation Enforcement Communications System – a database known as “TECS” that is used by CBP officers - the number of occupants in co-conspirators’ vehicles to conceal the fact that those vehicles contained undocumented individuals.

Building a private security force in a foreign country hmmmmm

In first, US Jewish security outfit opens boot camp for volunteer synagogue guards

New Community Security Service facility drills trainees in surveillance, intel, threat response and Krav Maga, as Jews build out defense array to counter antisemitic threats

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, New York — A woman in a black jacket, black pants and dark sunglasses emerged from a bank and stepped into the bright morning sunlight on the main street of a small town north of New York City. A passerby with a flannel shirt tied around her waist snapped a furtive photo of the woman, and a man began to tail her from the opposite side of the street, noting the precise time and location of her stops and movements.

An hour later, all three were debriefing in a nearby conference room. The woman in black was a trainer for the Community Security Service, a nonprofit that trains volunteer synagogue guards throughout the US, and the two surveilling her were participants in a training program. The exercise was part of a three-day course for 10 CSS volunteers at the organization’s new facility in Westchester County.

The facility, the first in the US dedicated to training synagogue guards, is part of the group’s expanding efforts to protect Jewish institutions, as American Jews build out an array of connected security measures amid a global surge in antisemitism.
