Credit Suisse to pay $511 million for helping U.S. taxpayers hide over $4 billion overseas

PUBLISHED MON, MAY 5 20254:27 PM E

Dan Mangan

KEY POINTS

· Credit Suisse will pay about $511 million after pleading guilty in a criminal case for having conspired with American taxpayers to hide more than $4 billion in at least 475 offshore accounts.

· The conspiracy allowed “ultra-high-net-worth and high-net-worth individual clients” of the Swiss corporation to evade their U.S. tax obligations from 2010 through 2021, the Department of Justice said.

• “In doing so, Credit Suisse AG committed new crimes and breached its May 2014 plea agreement with the United States,” the DOJ said.

Marco Rubio Orders State Department to Close Office of Palestinian Affairs

Elizabeth Weibel6 May 2025

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivers remarks during a a Declaration of Principles

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ordered the Department of State to close the Office of Palestinian Affairs and merge it with the United States Embassy in Jerusalem, according to several reports.

Tammy Bruce, a spokesperson with the Department of State, confirmed during a hearing that U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee would be taking “the steps necessary to implement the merger over the coming weeks,” according to CNN.

“This decision will restore the first Trump term framework of a unified US diplomatic mission in Israel’s capital that reports to the US ambassador to Israel,” Bruce said. “Ambassador (Mike) Huckabee will take the steps necessary to implement the merger over the coming weeks.”

Bruce added that the move to close the Office of Palestinian Affairs (OPA) was “very similar to what’s happening here with the bureaus” and explained that “it is making sure that the issues that are important are all working together right” and “not segmented.”

“It really is actually very similar to what’s happening here with the bureaus, with our reorganization,” Bruce said. “It is making sure that the issues that are important are all working together right, are not segmented out so that the interests of the embassy — very, very much like the interests of our foreign aid and other actions — can work together in the Bureau as one entity.”

Per the Washington Free Beacon, the Office of Palestinian Affairs was a “Biden-era creation” that “repeatedly earned the ire of Republican lawmakers for its anti-Israel advocacy.”

The office repeatedly earned the ire of Republican lawmakers for its anti-Israel advocacy during the Biden-Harris administration. In the early hours of Hamas’s October 7 attack, the OPA called on Israel to stand down and forgo any retaliation. Subsequent legislation sought to rein in the office, mandating it periodically report on its public diplomacy and advocacy efforts.

The Biden administration created the OPA in June 2022 against Israel’s wishes, endowing it with the power to operate independently of the American embassy. It has come under fire in the past for its potential violation of the Jerusalem embassy Act of 1995, which mandated that a single U.S. embassy be established in the Israeli capital.

United States officials and “congressional sources briefed on the matter” also confirmed the move to the outlet.

In response to the news, several Republicans, such as Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), praised the move, describing it as a “great decision” from Rubio.

“The Biden administration’s Office of Palestinian Affairs undermined Israel & emboldened Hamas,” Tenney wrote in a post on X. “Thank you, @SecRubio & @USAmbIsrael, for dissolving this entity & reaffirming the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem as the sole diplomatic mission in Jerusalem as required by law.”

“The U.S.-Israeli relationship should be handled exclusively by the appointed representatives at our Embassy in Jerusalem, not by anti-Israel activists working with the terrorist-supporting Palestinian Authority,” Cotton wrote in a post on X.

“The Biden State Department violated federal law to open the OPA and it only served to sabotage Israel at every turn in the wake of Hamas’s terror attacks,” Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) wrote in a post on X. “This is the correct move by President Trump, Secretary Rubio, and Ambassador Huckabee to support our great ally and reverse the previous administration’s undermining of Israel.”

During President Donald Trump’s first term he delivered a video address during the opening of the official United States Embassy in Jerusalem on May 14, 2018, Breitbart News reported.

“Today we follow through on this recognition and open our embassy in the historic and sacred land of Jerusalem and we’re opening it many, many years ahead of schedule,” Trump said at the time.

(Seems like something serious is happening)

Marco Rubio Responds to Reports India Launched Missiles at Pakistan

Elizabeth Weibel6 May 2025

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio talks to the reporters at NATO Headquarters in Brussels

Secretary of State Marco Rubio responded to reports that India had conducted missile strikes on Pakistan, weeks after a terrorist attack was carried out in Kashmir.

Rubio explained he is “monitoring the situation” between the two countries closely and expressed hope that the situation “ends quickly.”

“I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely,” Rubio wrote in a wrote in a post on X. “I echo @POTUS’s comments earlier today that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution.”

Rubio’s comments come as India’s government confirmed that early Wednesday, it had “struck nine sites in Pakistan and on Pakistan’s side of the disputed Kashmir region,” the New York Times reported:

The Indian government said its forces had struck nine sites in Pakistan and on Pakistan’s side of the disputed Kashmir region. Pakistani military officials said that five places had been hit, in Punjab Province and its part of Kashmir.

The Indian government explained that it “struck Pakistan after gathering evidence” showing “Pakistan-based terrorists” were involved in the terrorist attack on Kashmir, according to the outlet:

India said it had struck Pakistan after gathering evidence “pointing towards the clear involvement of Pakistan-based terrorists” in last month’s attack on civilians in a tourist area in Kashmir. It said that its military actions on Wednesday had been “measured, responsible and designed to be nonescalatory in nature.” It added that it had targeted only “known terror camps.”

As a result of the attack, eight people were killed and 38 others were left injured, Pakistan’s military spokesperson said, according to the Associated Press (AP).

“Pakistan has every right to give a robust response to this act of war imposed by India and a strong response is indeed being given,” Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a statement, according to the outlet.

Breitbart News’s John Hayward reported on Monday, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) ordered “several states, including the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region” and other regions close to the Pakistani border to “conduct civilian defense drills.”

The order from the MHA came as each country had “imposed a raft of sanctions and penalties on the other” in the aftermath of the April 22 terrorist attack, which “targeted a tourist site in the Himalayas called Phalagram” and left roughly 26 people dead.

Breitbart News reported:

The attack targeted a tourist site in the Himalayas called Phalagram, also known as “Little Switzerland” because it has remained largely tranquil during 35 years of unrest in the region. The Jammu and Kashmir region is a territory administered by India that borders Pakistan. It has the highest proportion of Muslim residents of any territory in India. It was a partially autonomous state until 2019, when the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi revoked its autonomy and brought it fully under the Indian constitution.

In response to the news of situation between India and Pakistan, President Donald Trump called it a “shame,” and expressed hope that “it ends quickly.”

“It’s a shame,” Trump said. “We just heard about it — just as we were walking in the doors of the Oval. I just heard about it, I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past. They’ve been fighting for a long time … for many, many decades — centuries, actually. I hope it ends quickly.”

Here Is the Logic Behind Making Canada the 51st State

Breitbart TV6 May 2025

On Tuesday’s “Alex Marlow Show,” host and Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow talked about the U.S. and Canada.

Marlow said that “expanding is good, in general,” and ensuring the U.S. controls the whole continent and can push back against Chinese influence in Canada would be positive, especially since Canada has territory in the Arctic, where China is encroaching.

He further stated that due to the expansion of AI, the U.S. needs a lot of energy and “Canada has typically…not been helpful in this regard.”

+=El Chapo’s Son Reaches Plea Agreement with U.S. Prosecutors==

One of the sons of Sinaloa kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has reached a plea agreement with U.S. federal prosecutors and is expected to plead guilty to several drug conspiracy charges in the coming weeks.

During a court hearing on Tuesday, attorneys for Ovidio “El Raton” Guzman Lopez and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois filed a notice with U.S. District Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman about Guzman’s intention to change his plea of not guilty.

Based on the new information, Johnson canceled a status hearing set for May 12 and set a hearing for July 9, at which time Ovidio is expected to formally enter a guilty plea to some of the charges filed against him. In the hearing, the judge ordered that attorneys provide her with a copy of the plea agreement at least three days before the date of the next meeting.

As Breitbart Texas reported, Ovidio Guzman is one of four sons of jailed Sinaloa Cartel Kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Following their father’s capture and extradition to the U.S. in 2017, his highly publicized trial in 2019, and his subsequent life sentence, the four sons, known as Los Chapitos, established their own criminal empire, becoming more violent than their father and focusing on the production of fentanyl.

El Raton earned a name for himself on October 17, 2019, after Mexican federal forces arrested him. His brothers unleashed the full power of the Sinaloa Cartel on the city of Culiacan, forcing then-Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to cower and order the cartel leader’s release, Breitbart Texas reported at the time.

On January 5, 2023, Mexican authorities were able to capture the younger Guzman a second time and managed to hold him until his extradition to the United States in September 2023, Breitbart Texas reported.

Last summer, Guzman’s brother managed to lure and capture the other leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, only to fly him to Texas and the waiting hands of U.S. federal agents. The perceived betrayal by Los Chapitos set off a fierce turf war between that faction and the faction loyal to El Mayo and his family. That turf war continues to this day, leading to thousands of killings and forced disappearances that spread terror through Western Mexico.

Daycare Closed After Housing Illegal Migrant Wanted for Child Rape

Paul Bois6 May 2025

A daycare in Cape Cod closed this week after housing an illegal migrant wanted for child rape in his home country of Brazil.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that agents arrested Tiago Lucas in Bourne, Massachusetts last October after learning he had been living at the home daycare of Franciele Nunes. Lucas, allegedly the father of Nunes two children, fled Brazil to escape a nine-year sentence for raping a 13-year-old girl. Nunes had been a licensed home daycare provider for three years until her license expired in March of this year.

Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis called it “terrifying” that Lucas had been harbored at a home daycare with no oversight.

Sheriff Evangelidis told 25 Investigaters:

The idea that someone has been documented, that a Brazilian national fled the country because they were convicted for rape of a 13-year-old and could come to Massachusetts and not only disappear into the fabric of Massachusetts, but actually be living in a home that was a daycare center for young people. That’s terrifying.

According to Boston 25, the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) investigated the home five times and found no record of Tiago Lucas living there. State Representative Steven Xiarhos said the investigations were not thorough enough.

“You’ve really got to, I think, go out of your way to make sure each place is as safe as it should be. And that’s with proper background checks, looking around when you visit to see if there’s any signs of anything wrong,” Representative Xiarhos told reporters.

“Our children are innocent. And when they go to a daycare, it’s almost like we’re putting their lives in the hands of others,” Xiarhos added.

The incident has ignited concerns about the adequacy of the state’s oversight of home daycares and the limitations of current background check procedures, particularly concerning individuals with criminal records from outside the U.S. and their presence in licensed childcare settings.

According to Fox News, Massachusetts is “the only state in the country with a Right to Shelter law, which was enacted in 1983 in response to a homelessness crisis in the state and guarantees housing for families and pregnant women without housing. “

“Recently, however, an influx of migrants into the United States, combined with a lack of affordable housing options, has left the state overwhelmed with people seeking such assistance,” added Fox News. “The law has led to the creation of a vast network of migrant shelters that has cost the state upwards of $3 billion in taxpayer dollars since 2021.”

Second US Navy jet is lost at sea from Truman aircraft carrierWTF

By Natasha Bertrand, Katie Bo Lillis and Zachary Cohen, CNN

Updated: 9:53 PM EDT, Tue May 6, 2025

Source: CNN

Another F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier has been lost in the Red Sea, the second jet lost from the carrier in just over a week, five people familiar with the matter told CNN.

It is not entirely clear what happened yet, as the investigation is ongoing, but two of the people said there was some kind of arrestment failure as the jet was trying to land on the carrier and the pilot and weapons systems officer had to eject. They were recovered by a rescue helicopter and are both alive, but they suffered minor injuries, one of the people said.

The jet crashed into the sea and has not been recovered, two of the people familiar with the incident said.

Separately, the Iran-backed Houthi rebel group “took a shot” at the Truman on Tuesday, four of the people said, despite President Donald Trump announcing an apparent ceasefire with the group hours earlier. It is not clear whether the two incidents are related.

The Office of the Secretary of Defense referred all questions about the incidents to the Navy and US Central Command. CNN has reached out to the Navy and CENTCOM for comment.

The loss of the fighter jet comes one week after another F/A-18 jet fell overboard the Truman. That time, initial reports indicated that the Truman made a hard turn to evade Houthi fire, which contributed to the fighter jet falling overboard.

An individual F/A-18 fighter jet costs more than $60 million, according to the Navy.

US Naval assets in the Red Sea have repeatedly come under Houthi fire since the Houthis began their attacks against Red Sea shipping in November 2023. In early 2024, a US destroyer in the Red Sea had to use its Phalanx Close-In Weapon System, its last line of defense to missile attacks, when a Houthi-fired cruise missile got as near as a mile away – and therefore seconds from impact.

The Truman aircraft carrier in particular, though, has been plagued with problems as part of its Red Sea deployment. In December, another F/A-18 fighter jet was operating from the Truman when it was “mistakenly fired” upon by the USS Gettysburg and crashed into the Red Sea. Both aviators ejected safely at the time.

Then, in February, the Truman was involved in a collision with a merchant ship near Egypt in the Mediterranean Sea. Following the incident, the commander of the Truman at the time, Captain Dave Snowden, was relieved of duty. Captain Christopher Hill took command of the carrier shortly thereafter.
