University of Colorado cancels ‘sex ed’ summer camp for kids after massive backlash

(LifeSiteNews) — The University of Colorado Boulder recently canceled its planned “sex ed summer camp” for children as young as ten after fierce backlash from prominent conservative commentators.

The free camp, which was to be held in partnership with an abortion facility called Boulder Valley Health Center, planned to discuss “everything related to sex, bodies, sexuality, sexy feelings, media, power, and justice,” as well as “bodies beyond the binary,” “pleasure (in all sorts of ways),” and “self-love,” according to a flyer posted online.

According to Boulder Reporting Lab, media outlets and groups including Libs of TikTok, Steve Bannon’s War Room, the Daily Caller, Newsmax and Moms for Liberty called for the camp to be shut down after news of the camp made the rounds online, triggering outrage and disgust from many social media users.

Newsmax host Todd Starnes even said his employer had “reached out to the Department of Government Efficiency and the DOJ,” adding in a video posted to Instagram, “Children are not safe in Boulder, Colorado.”

In an Instagram video jointly posted by Students for Life, pro-life advocate Christine Yeargin slammed the camp as “perverted.”

“Anyone who goes along with this should be immediately arrested,” said Yeargin.

“I have been telling you for years that the abortion industry has an agenda to sexualize your children, but also to become the expert in your child’s life, and that is exactly what this is,” she continued.

Christian commentator Shane Winnings, who posted a 30-minute exposé of the camp, said he was “so disgusted” at the fact that the camp suggested it was teaching masturbation, that he “wanted to fly there for the orientation and just yell at them all on camera.”

His worst condemnation was for the parents who planned to send their children to the camp.

“Shame on you,” chided Winnings, warning that, as Jesus Christ says in Scripture, it is better that someone die rather than cause a child to fall into sin.

Critics also denounced the camp for promoting LGBT ideology, including the idea that one need not identify with their biological sex, but with a so-called “gender” outside the binary.

“They’re trying to sexualize the next generation. And not even normally sexualize them, [but] into all of these insanely idiotic fringe LGBTQIA MS-13 acronyms. It’s ridiculous,” ripped Winnings.

Boulder Valley Health Center, the abortion clinic, recently announced the cancellation of the camp due to “safety concerns.”

“The camp aimed to provide age-appropriate sex education to prevent unwanted pregnancies and emphasize the importance of sexual health for overall well-being. Any extrapolation about the camp’s intentions is incorrect,” stated the notice, apparently in response to accusations that the camp intended to “groom” children.

The White House announced Wednesday that President Donald Trump is pulling Dr. Janette Nesheiwat’s nomination to be surgeon general andreplacing her with Dr. Casey Means. The news came the day before Nesheiwat’s Senate confirmation hearing was set to begin.

“Casey has impeccable ‘MAHA’ credentials, and will work closely with our wonderful Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to ensure a successful implementation of our Agenda in order to reverse the Chronic Disease Epidemic, and ensure Great Health, in the future, for ALL Americans,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “Her academic achievements, together with her life’s work, are absolutely outstanding. Dr. Casey Means has the potential to be one of the finest Surgeon Generals in United States History. Congratulations to Casey! Secretary Kennedy looks forward to working with Dr. Janette Nesheiwat in another capacity at HHS.’ “

The surgeon general, known as “the nation’s doctor,” is a physician who focuses on educating and advising Americans on how to improve their health, by issuing advisories, reports and calls to action to offer the best available scientific information on crucial issues. The surgeon general also serves in the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, overseeing this group of uniformed officers who seek to promote the nation’s health.

Nesheiwat, a New York family physician and former Fox News medical contributor, was scheduled to have a hearing with senators Thursday.

She is also the sister-in-law of National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, who had been on shaky ground within the administration after he inadvertently added a journalist to a messaging app group chat about highly sensitive military strikes. Trump recently nominated Waltz to serve as UN ambassador.

Means is a holistic medicine doctor whose prominence rose with the Make America Healthy Again movement and its ties to Kennedy’s presidential campaign.

Both Means and her brother, White House health adviser Calley Means, have made frequent public appearances at MAHA eventsand on podcasts, arguing that Americans are sick with chronic disease because the health care system and federal agencies are prioritizing medication and financial incentives over nutrition and holistic health.

Means went to Stanford Medical School but has told the story of dropping out of her residency at age 30 when she became disillusioned with the health care system.

“I’m trying to understand, why don’t I feel right about my work?” she said on the Joe Rogan podcast last year. “I just started looking at the data in a different way, and I started to look at what was happening with health trends.”

In March, the White House withdrew its nomination of Dr. Dave Weldon to direct the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention less than an hour before his hearing with the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. Before the abrupt withdrawal, White House officials had privately voiced concerns about Weldon’s comments expressing skepticism about vaccines. Dr. Susan Monarez was later nominated to lead the agency.

Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, an urgent-care physician and former Fox News medical contributor1 who is President Donald Trump’s nominee for surgeon general of the United States, has over at least the last 15 years falsely represented or obfuscated facts about her medical education, board certifications, and military service.

The surgeon general is a vice admiral in the Commissioned Corps—a uniformed service of medical, health, and engineering officers within the U.S. Public Health Service working throughout the country—who protects and promotes the nation’s health, issuing advisories and reports directly to the public. The position has a term of four years and requires Senate confirmation. Federal law requires that the nominee have “specialized training or significant experience in public health programs.”

Nesheiwat has carefully crafted a narrative over many years about who she is and how her career came to be, changing it over time, adding more details that do not match verifiable facts, and altering some claims, but always with the apparent purpose of seeming to be more successful and credentialed than she is.

UPDATE 6:15 pm EDT April 20, 2025: neither the White House, the Office of the Surgeon General, VillageMD, nor Dr. Nesheiwat replied to requests for comment today.

Medical education and training

Physicians who earn a medical degree from a US-accredited medical school, complete a one-year internship, and pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination may generally be licensed to practice medicine in a state. According to official records, Nesheiwat is currently licensed to practice medicine in four states and the District of Columbia (although it appears she is actively practicing only in New York at this time).

Many physicians also complete a residency in a medical specialty, a process that can take three or more years in total, and is separate from becoming board-certified.

Nesheiwat and others contend that she earned her medical degree from a school in the southern United States. On her verified2 LinkedIn profile, under “Education,” she clearly lists “University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Doctor of Medicine

Within the West Wing, Trump has grown increasingly focused in recent weeks on lowering drug prices, urging aides to find policies capable of making a big dent in the cost of medicines, according to two of the people familiar with the matter.

Trump’s poll numbers have suffered in recent weeks since his tariff policies have begun to rattle markets and raise fears of widespread inflation and shortages of consumer goods.

White House officials initially pressed congressional Republicans to draft in their megabill a “most favored nation” provision tying the cost of medicines in Medicaid to the lower prices developed countries pay abroad.

But that bid ran into opposition across the GOP conference and is unlikely to be included in the legislation, said one of the people familiar with the matter.

The White House is instead now expected to try to advance the drug price proposal on its own, using existing authorities to impose its “most favored nation” model.

The effort, if finalized, would likely draw massive opposition from a drug industry that has warned the idea would decimate companies’ ability to develop new drugs. It could also trigger fresh legal challenges.

Trump’s order this go-around will look largely similar to his first, with even less specifics on which direct medicines are targeted, said one of the people familiar.

It's a startling difference from what he was saying during his Senate campaign claiming "affordable housing," "lower drug costs" and "bringing good jobs back" as his agenda win votes.

He told the New York Times:

“The stuff that my constituents want me to do to attack housing prices and food prices and gas prices and to restore reproductive freedom will be very hard to do if we’re not setting the agenda in the majority.”

Actually, as Pollak found, he's all about Getting Trump. He's an operative for the Democrats' perpetuation of power and little else, and he still has the madman's gleam in his eye about taking out Trump. California is just a vehicle to him, given the seriousness of its problems, from wildfire cleanup, to tariffs, to bums ruling the streets. He doesn't seem to know about any of that, let alone show much of any interest in doing anything for his state.
