Zelensky rejects Putin’s ceasefire, Ukraine escalates drone strikes on Moscow

Vladimir Putin’s offer for a three-day ceasefire has been rejected by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, setting the stage for a dramatic escalation in the conflict. Instead of pausing hostilities, Ukraine has intensified its drone strikes on Moscow and other Russian regions, targeting key infrastructure and military sites.

Sources indicate that Ukraine’s Armed Forces are preparing larger assaults beyond drone attacks, aiming to strike deeper into Russian territory. The Kremlin has responded swiftly, with reports from Russian outlet Mash stating that Putin has ordered the Russian Defense Ministry to select targets in Kiev for strikes using advanced Oreshnik systems. This signals a severe retaliation that could cripple Ukraine’s leadership and military command centers.

Ukrainian officials, anticipating a devastating response, are reportedly evacuating their families abroad. The rejection of Putin’s ceasefire and the decision to escalate attacks on Moscow have heightened fears of direct Russian strikes on Kiev, with military analysts warning that the conflict is entering a dangerous new phase.

The ceasefire proposal was intended to coincide with Russia’s Victory Day celebrations on May 9, but Zelensky dismissed it as a “performance”, arguing that it lacked genuine intent for peace. Instead, Ukraine has launched mass drone attacks on Russian cities, including Novorossiysk and Belgorod.

The situation remains volatile, with both sides preparing for further military action. Russia has already launched airstrikes on Kiev, targeting residential areas and infrastructure. Zelensky has stated that Ukraine is open to a ceasefire but only if Russia agrees to a long-term truce rather than a temporary pause.
