A powerful explosion tore through the Hunt Oil Refinery in West Tuscaloosa just before noon Wednesday, sending thick, black smoke billowing into the sky and rattling homes miles away.
WVUA 23 Chief Meteorologist Richard Scott said he could hear the blast from his home 16 miles north of the refinery, describing it as a deep, thunderous boom that shook windows.
