Look at the Sahara from space and it's clear the Med flowed SW back to the Atlantic. Look at the US west from the scablands around WA and OR all the way down through the Nevada desert and into the San Diego area is a huge washover runoff. Why are there salt lakes at high altitudes still evaporating from something?
There was a dramatic overwashing event and the whole world bears the scars of the runoff. Many canyons and rivers cut not over millions of years, but over hours to minutes by unimaginable amounts of water.
