The connection between Obama and King Harald dates back to 2009

Former US President Barack Obama met with King Harald V of Norway yesterday.

The royal visit was also attended by Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Obama's meeting with the Norwegian monarch came during his brief visit to the Scandinavian country.

The former American leader has been in Norway since Monday, when he delivered a lecture at Oslo Spektrum.

The gathering at the royal summer estate marks a significant diplomatic engagement for the 44th US president, who has maintained connections with world leaders since leaving office.

King Harald, who has recently scaled back his royal duties due to health concerns, welcomed Obama in what appeared to be a cordial reunion between the two dignitaries.

Obama's lecture at Oslo Spektrum on Monday was moderated by Sofie Høgestøl, a podcaster and former member of the Norwegian parliament.

The discussion explored "some of the most pressing issues of our time, as well as his thoughts on the challenges facing the world's democracies in the future."

This visit marks a continuation of Obama's relationship with Norway, which began during his presidency.

The former president and King Harald are well acquainted, having first met in an official capacity over 15 years ago.

The connection between Obama and King Harald dates back to 2009, when the monarch presented Obama with the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in international diplomacy.

Their reunion comes just over a year after the Norwegian monarch reduced his royal duties following a lengthy sick leave and an operation to install a permanent pacemaker.

The Norwegian Royal House announced in April 2024 that the King would make adjustments to his programme "out of consideration for his age."

The 91-year-old monarch has faced several health issues, including hospitalisations for infections in 2022 and 2023.

In January 2024, King Harald stated he had no plans to abdicate, despite speculation following Queen Margrethe of Denmark's decision to step down that same month.

"I stand by what I have said all along. I have taken an oath to the Storting, and it lasts for life," the King said, referring to his promise to the Norwegian Parliament when he acceded in 1991.

Crown Prince Haakon, who is next in line to the throne, has assumed some royal duties due to his father's health.

Noem: Democratic lawmakers committed ‘felonies’ at ICE facility, calls for censuring

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Tuesday accused three Democratic lawmakers from New Jersey of committing “felonies” while visiting an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in New Jersey.

Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Robert Menendez and LaMonica McIver were present at the Delaney Hall detention center Friday, where a scuffle with law enforcement ensued and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (D) was arrested for trespassing.

“This wasn’t oversight, this was committing felonies. This was going out and attacking people who stand up for the rule of law. And it was absolutely horrible,”Noem said during a Tuesday appearance on Fox News.

Noem was not present for the Friday incident. Democrats have accused the administration of lying about what happened.

Watson Coleman posted a video of the group of lawmakers entering the building with escorts while a crowd of people waited outside the gates.

“We will be your eyes and your ears and we will report back to you, mayor,” Watson Coleman told Baraka, who waited outside the gates.

The New Jersey lawmaker said upon leaving that ICE agents had “shoved” her and others.

“Since DHS has been lying about this, allow me to correct the record. This scuffle, during which an ICE agent physically shoved me, occurred AFTER we had entered the Delaney Hall premises,” she wrote in a Friday post on the social platform X.

“We entered the facility, came BACK OUT to speak to the Mayor, and then ICE agents began shoving us. This is not how we entered the facility. We were escorted in by guards, because we have lawful oversight authority to be there,” she continued.

Members of Congress have the legal right to conduct oversight at ICE facilities without prior notice and Watson Coleman said she has already done so twice this year. However, the Trump administration said the lawmakers stormed the building.

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin suggested more Democratic lawmakers could face arrests as a result of the incident while GOP Rep. Buddy Carter (Ga.) introduced a Tuesday resolution to strip House members of their committee assignments.

“We actually have body camera footage of some of these members of Congress assaulting our ICE enforcement officers, including body slamming a female ICE officer, so we will be showing that to viewers very shortly,” McLaughlin said during a Friday CNN appearance.

Officials have not released a video revealing the physical altercation described.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has also criticized the administration over their handling of the incident.

“If anyone’s breaking the law in this situation, it’s not members of Congress, it’s the Department of Homeland Security,” she said in an Instagram video posted Sunday.

“It’s people like Tom Homan and Secretary Kristi Noem,” she added, referring to President Trump’s border czar.

“You lay a finger on someone, on Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman … or any of the representatives that were there, you lay a finger on them, we are going to have a problem,” Ocasio-Cortez added. “Because the people who are breaking the law are the people not abiding by it.”

Somali-American Refugee’s Medicaid Firm Submitted Fraudulent MaineCare Claims for Years, Former Employees Allege

Former employees of Gateway Community Services, a migrant-run social services agency with offices throughout Maine, have alleged in interviews with The Robinson Report that the company artificially inflated Medicaid billing for at least seven years.

The whistleblower allegations surfaced after a report by the Maine Wire on March 21 revealed that Gateway Community Services had previously been audited by the Maine Department of Human Services (DHHS) and received a Notice of Violation stating the company had over-billed MaineCare, Maine’s version of Medicaid, by close to one million dollars from 2015-2017. As of at least 2022, that sum had not been repaid, according to state records.

The report also disclosed that Abdullahi Ali, the CEO of Gateway Community Services and a celebrated Somali-American refugee, claimed to be financing Somali paramilitary groups during his unsuccessful 2024 campaign for an elected office in Somalia.

At the same time he claimed in Kenyan TV interviews to be funding Somali militia as part of his campaign to become the next president of Jubaland, he was receiving millions in taxpayer-funded Medicaid payments and other government payments, according to government records.

Now, three former employees, including one who has come forward publicly and reported his allegations to the Office of the State Auditor, have revealed details of Ali’s roughly $5 million per year MaineCare business that paint a picture of systematic abuse of the taxpayer-funded program.

From 2019 to 2024, the company billed MaineCare for a total of $28.8 million, according to DHHS records. In addition, the company has received multiple other contracts from the Mills Administration in recent years for community health outreach work.

The allegations submitted to the Office of the State Auditor, if true, would implicate Gateway Community Services and its leadership in multiple state and federal crimes, including Medicaid fraud, wire fraud, forgery, and other criminal offenses.

The whistleblower claims are also strikingly similar to the allegations the FBI made last year against several Minnesota-based autism care providers.

That investigation grew out of the “Feeding Our Future” scandal, a massive fraud scheme whose perpetrators stole over $250 million in federal funds allocated for child nutrition programs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I worked as the main biller and payroll specialist for two of the programs within the agency [Gateway Community Services].

“Those being section 28, which is rehabilitative home and community supports for children with autism, and also for the personal support specialist program (PSS)… I have suspected fraud within these programs many times, particularly over the last few months…”

“Well, this is, this is borderline fraud,” he recalled saying. “I told them a long time ago, this is, this is borderline,” he said.

“I don’t understand how they’ve gotten away with it for as long as they have…”
