Montana District Court Activist Judge Strikes Down Law Banning Sex Changes for Minors

A district court judge has once again blocked a Montana law banning sex change surgeries and hormone treatments for minors.

Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte signed the legislation, Senate Bill 99, into law in 2023.

The law prohibits doctors from prescribing cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, or performing sex change surgeries on minors. Healthcare workers who violate the law could be subjected to discipline from their “licensing entity or disciplinary review board” and lose their license for a year if convicted.

A lawsuit challenging the ban was brought on by the American Civil Liberties Union which is representing Jessica and Ewout van Garderen and their 16-year-old son who identifies as a girl named “Scarlet,” Molly and Paul Cross and their 15-year-old daughter “Phoebe,” Jane and John Doe joining on behalf of their 15-year-old son who identifies as a girl, Dr. Juanita Hodax of Community Medical Center, and Dr. Katy Mistretta of Bozeman Creek Family Health.

Just four days before the new law was scheduled to go into effect, District Court Judge Jason Marks issued a temporary injunction because he agreed with the plaintiffs who argued that it is “likely unconstitutional and would harm the mental and physical health of minors with gender dysphoria, rather than protect them from experimental treatments.”

On Tuesday, Judge Marks issued a 59-page ruling in which he claimed the law violates the state constitutional protections for privacy, equal protection, and free speech.

“The court is forced to conclude that the state’s interest is actually a political and ideological one: ensuring minors in Montana are never provided treatment to address their ‘perception that [their] gender or sex’ is something other than their sex assigned at birth,” Marks’ ruling states. “In other words, the state’s interest is actually blocking transgender expression.”

Chase Scheuer, press secretary to Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen, said in a statement to The Hill, “Yet again, the Montana judiciary ignored the will of Montanans and went out of its way to advance the woke agendas of their political allies before the state could get a fair trial.”

The report noted, “The decision to strike down Montana’s law comes as the Supreme Court prepares to rule this summer on whether such restrictions are constitutional. Half the nation since 2021 has adopted laws that ban gender transition-related care for minors, and President Trump has sought to end federal support for gender-affirming care for youth through an executive order that two court orders currently block.”

Hostage talks kick off in Doha, but PM’s insistence on not ending war curbs optimism

Witkoff holds 2 hour call with Netanyahu, but fails to extract major compromise; US pressure on parties expected to ramp up in next 48 hours; Hamas showing flexibility on disarmament

Hostage negotiations kicked off in Doha on Wednesday with renewed energy and optimism from US mediators following Hamas’s release of American-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander, but an Israeli and an Arab official told The Times of Israel that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to accept proposals that commit Jerusalem to permanently ending the war in Gaza significantly limit chances for success.

Still, US special envoy to the Mideast Steve Witkoff is leaning hard on both Israel and Hamas to compromise and will stick with it through at least the Friday conclusion of US President Donald Trump’s Mideast trip, the Israeli official said, adding that the negotiations may be allowed extend further if they remain substantive, but need a little more time.

For its part, Israel has pledged to launch a new massive military operation to reoccupy and hold onto the entire Strip indefinitely if Hamas does not agree to what it has called the “Witkoff proposal” by the end of Trump’s trip. This proposal envisions the release of as many as half of the remaining living hostages in exchange for a weekslong ceasefire during which Israel would agree to hold talks regarding the terms of an end to the war, without committing up front to such a result.

Hamas has pushed back on this framework, insisting on guarantees that the war will end before it releases additional hostages. It has pointed to Israel’s refusal to hold talks on a permanent ceasefire earlier this year, even though it had agreed to do so as part of the ceasefire inked in January, which collapsed after its first stage in March.

The terror group has proposed releasing all of the hostages at once in exchange for an end to the war, but Netanyahu has rejected this trade, arguing that it would leave Hamas in power. Successive polls have indicated, though, that the premier is out of step with the majority of Israelis who back such a framework. But Netanyahu is also facing pressure from his far-right coalition partners who have threatened to collapse the government if he were to end the war in exchange for the remaining 58 hostages — between 20 and 23 of whom are believed to still be alive.

Australian MSM

Why are there so many banknotes in Australia, when hardly any of us are using them?

The amount of banknotes circulating in Australia is at a near-record level not seen since the height of the pandemic.

The latest figures from the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) balance sheet, released last week, show there is a staggering $103.7 billion in notes in circulation.

As pro-cash advocacy group Cash Welcome points out, there has almost never been more cash physically circulating in Australia.

"The all-time record for the total value of Australian notes circulating is $103.99 billion set in December 2022," the group's founder, Jason Bryce, said.

Bryce points towards the rise in the amount of banknotes in circulation as proof that Australia is far from heading towards a cashless society.

Yet, the fact remains that fewer and fewer of us are using physical cash in our everyday lives.

So, what exactly are Australians doing with all these banknotes?

The answer is more likely to be shoving them under our mattresses than using them at the supermarket checkout.

An analysis of the post-pandemic demand for banknotes by the RBA last year found the amount of cash actually being used for ordinary transactions had fallen by around four per cent since the end of the pandemic to around 13 per cent.

Just a small proportion, between 9 and 26 per cent, of all banknotes are now used for what they were originally intended - legitimate everyday purchases.

A further 5–9 per cent of banknotes in circulation have likely been lost, the analysis found, while another 7–11 per cent are used in the so-called 'shadow economy' for nefarious or criminal transactions.

The vast majority of our banknotes, however, about 55-80 per cent, are being hoarded, the RBA estimates.

"The dichotomy of strong banknote demand alongside falling transactional use suggests banknotes are being hoarded, likely for store-of-wealth or precautionary savings purposes," the RBA said in its analysis

Former MP Rory Amon charged with breaching bail terms

Former NSW Liberal MP Rory Amon has been arrested for allegedly breaching his bail conditions over child sex offending charges.

He was arrested in central Sydney about 10pm yesterday.

Last month the 35-year-old former MP formally pleaded not guilty to five charges of sexual intercourse with a person aged 10 to 14.

He also pleaded not guilty to five other charges related to the alleged illegal hook-ups.

Amon resigned soon after, with a subsequent by-election taking the seat of Pittwater out of Liberal hands for the first time in 50 years.

He was refused police bail and is scheduled to appear in Downing Centre Local Court today.

Amon was elected to parliament in March 2023 and was the opposition spokesman on youth issues at the time of his arrest.

He is scheduled to face a 10-day trial over the child sex charges next February.

Mark Levin rages at ex-Fox colleague Tucker Carlson as MAGA-on-MAGA violence breaks out: ‘You little b*stard!’

‘You should have picked up the phone because I would have cleared things up for you,” Mark Levin said at the end of his latest rant

https://youtu.be/7xsI1uStID4

Mark Levin and Tucker Carlson, two of the top pro-Trump commentators in the right-wing media ecosystem who also happen to be former Fox News colleagues, are currently embroiled in a war of words that has now seen one call the other a “schmuck” and a “little b*stard.”

The tête-à-tête began last week when Levin, a Fox News host whom Donald Trump recently appointed to the “revamped” Homeland Security Advisory Council, took issue with recent comments Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff made to MAGA outlet Breitbart.

“The Neocon element believes that war is the only way to solve things,” Witkoff said in the interview. “The president believes that his force of personality, the way he is going to respond to certain situations, can bend people to do things in a better way in the interests of the United States government.”

Levin, a hawkish right-winger who still believed in the weapons of mass destruction rationale for war in Iraq in 2014, reacted to the interview by claiming Witkoff “talks like the fifth column isolationists” before saying he waited with “great interest” on the deal the envoy was negotiating with Iran.

“In the meantime, rather than sloganeering against patriotic Americans who love our country, use your name-calling for the terrorist regime that has murdered Americans, tried to assassinate our president, chants death to America, and has lied its way toward a nuclear bomb,” Levin added before tweeting: “By the way, neocon is a pejorative for Jew. Unbelievable.”

It was this claim that using the term “neocon” is somehow antisemitic – both Levin and Witkoff are Jewish – that prompted a response from Carlson, who has become the “king of the isolationists” in the American conservative movement.

Carlson, who was fired from Fox News in 2023, said that his former employer “basically seems to turn its programming over to advocating for a war with Iran” before ridiculing Levin for his taking offense at Witkoff’s take on the “neocon element” in the GOP.

“So you have Mark Levin calling Steve Witkoff an anti-Semite. We’ve reached peak crazy, I mean, I think Witkoff is Jewish, right?” Carlson asked his guest Dave Smith, a comedian turned foreign policy critic.

“If Mark Levin is calling the Trump administration antisemitic, Steve Witkoff, we’re at the end of something and the beginning of something new,” Carlson added. “If you’re calling Steve Witkoff an anti-Semite on Twitter, like, you know you’re losing, right?”

Carlson, who said he didn’t call Levin because he would just be “scolded” by the “screaming” host, likely knew that the conservative pundit was going to return fire, especially since Levin spends much of his airtime raging at his critics. And that’s exactly what happened this week.

Midway through his syndicated radio show on Tuesday, Levin launched into an over-the-top tirade in which he repeatedly referred to his former Fox News cohort by the nickname deceased conservative radio star Rush Limbaugh bestowed on Carlson – Chatsworth Osborne Jr.

“So schmuck picks a fight with me, doesn’t call me,” Levin fumed. “You see, all the neocons are gone. So why do they keep using the word neoconservative? Notice they don’t use hawk, interventionist. Neocon! Why do they keep saying neocon? Because many of the neoconservatives were old time, left-wing, Democrat Jews!”
