Canada’s inflation rate slowed to 1.7 percent in April, driven by lower energy prices following the removal of the consumer carbon tax, according to Statistics Canada.

The country’s inflation rate was at 2.3 percent in March. It fell in April due to a combination of lower energy prices from the carbon tax’s removal, decreased oil demand due to U.S. tariffs, and increased oil supplies from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, StatCan says.

Energy prices fell 12.7 percent in April following a 0.3 percent decline in March. Year over year, natural gas prices fell 14.1 percent in April after a 6.4 percent gain in March. Continue…

King Charles and Queen Camilla's visit to Canada itinerary unveiled

https://torontosun.com/news/national/king-charles-and-queen-camillas-visit-to-canada-itinerary-unveiled

The King will deliver the throne speech — the first time since 1977 a reigning sovereign has done so

The government of Canada unveiled the itinerary for next week’s royal visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla.

His Majesty will visit Canada on a two-day visit to deliver the throne speech to begin the spring session of the House of Commons.

The royal couple are set to arrive in Ottawa on Monday, May 26, and will be greeted at the Canada Reception Centre at Ottawa International Airport by Prime Minister Mark Carney, Gov. Gen. Mary Simon, and Ontario Lieut.-Gov. Edith Dumont.

The Royal Canadian Dragoons will also be on hand.

Following the official welcome, the King and Queen will travel to Lansdowne Park to greet local community groups, then head to Rideau Hall to participate in a ceremonial tree planting and hold audiences with Carney and Simon.

The next day, the King and Queen will travel by Canada’s State Landau — a ceremonial open-top horse-drawn carriage — across Wellington St. from the Bank of Canada to the Canadian Senate, located across the road from the Chateau Laurier at Rideau St.

The carriage will be pulled by horses from the RCMP musical ride.

Upon arrival, the King and Queen will receive full military honours, which incudes a 100-person honour guard and 21-gun salute.

Following the delivery of the speech, the King and Queen will lay wreaths at the National War Memorial.

This is the first time since 1977 that a sovereign has personally delivered the throne speech in Canada — that came after the late Queen Elizabeth gave the speech in 1957 during her first official visit to Canada as sovereign.

“His Majesty’s delivery of the Speech from the Throne to open the 45th Parliament is a momentous occasion — one that brings Canadians together in celebration of our rich history, our democracy and the institutions that serve us all,” said Culture Minister Steven Guilbeault.

“This visit offers an opportunity to showcase the special relationship between Canada and the Crown, while also highlighting the strength, diversity and unity that define us on the world stage.”

Hamas applauds Canada, France, UK over statement urging IDF to halt Gaza operations

The terror group welcomed the joint statement from Canada, France, and the UK as an "important step forward" as hostilities continue.

Hamas has released a message in support of a joint statement issued on Monday by the leaders of Canada, France, and the UK calling on Israel to "immediately" halt all military operations in the Gaza Strip.

The joint statement from the three nations warned that if Israel fails to cease its "renewed military offensive" and lift restrictions on humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip, they will take "further concrete actions in response."

The message from the three leaders also took aim at the "language" used by members of the Israeli government: "We condemn the abhorrent language used recently by members of the Israeli Government, threatening that, in their despair at the destruction of Gaza, civilians will start to relocate. Permanent forced displacement is a breach of international humanitarian law."

In Hamas' own message issued on its media outlets, the terror group lauded the joint statement from Mark Carney, Keir Starmer, and Emmanuel Macron. Continue…
