The vibrant “Rainbow Road” painting will stretch down 15th Street between V and O Streets NW.

Neither the Capital Pride Alliance, DDOT, nor related sources (e.g., WorldPride websites, news articles, or public records) state the mural’s cost to taxpayers. Similar large-scale street murals in other cities have ranged from $20,000 to $100,000.

DC’s now-removed “Black Lives Matter Plaza” mural, which covered a portion of 16th Street NW, cost $271,231 to repaint in 2023, including $217,680 in labor and $53,551 in paint supplies. The mural is smaller than Rainbow Road, but it used similar materials and city contractor processes.

Tesla stock is up about 2% mid-day after a mid-day interview between David Faber and Elon Musk. The Tesla CEO told CNBC that Tesla will launch robotaxis in Austin by the end of June, starting with about 10 vehicles and expanding if all goes smoothly.

“It’s prudent for us to start with a small number, confirm that things are going well and then scale it up,” Musk said.

The vehicles, Model Ys using an upcoming version of FSD called FSD Unsupervised, will operate without human drivers and be geofenced within Austin. Tesla staff will monitor them remotely, according to CNBC.

The circumstances of the murder suggest it may have been an “extrajudicial execution,” as Portnov may have had access to information that could threaten figures in Vladimir Zelensky’s administration, Rodion Miroshnik, Russia’s ambassador-at-large overseeing a special mission on alleged Ukrainian war crimes, has said.

The killing occurred in Pozuelo de Alarcon, according to the newspaper El Pais. Portnov, 51, was reportedly approached by two or three assailants and shot at least five times, including three times in the head, while inspecting the trunk of his Mercedes car, near a private school attended by his children.

The EU has sanctioned exiled Ukrainian opposition leader Viktor Medvedchuk as well as 20 other individuals and six entities on accusations of being involved in what it described as “Russia’s destabilizing actions abroad.” Moscow has repeatedly rejected claims of meddling in internal affairs of the bloc’s member-states.

Medvedchuk, who has been blacklisted by the EU since May 2024, was slapped with additional curbs on Tuesday when the European Council announced its 17th round of sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine conflict.

The restrictions against the former leader of Ukraine’s banned Opposition Platform – For Life party and the others included an assets freeze in the EU and a ban on entering the bloc or transiting its territory, the council said in a statement.

The EU claims that Medvedchuk and his associates Artyom Marchevsky and Oleg Voloshin, who have also been sanctioned, “controlled Ukrainian media outlets and used them to disseminate pro-Russian propaganda in Ukraine and beyond.” Continue…

The Jiu Tian has been designed to deploy up to 100 AI-guided UAVs during high-altitude missions

China is preparing to launch what it says is the world’s first “drone carrier” aircraft, capable of releasing swarms of AI-guided kamikaze drones during high-altitude missions.

The Jiu Tian, or ‘High Sky’ UAV, is scheduled to complete its first test mission by the end of June, according to the state broadcaster CCTV.

The aircraft is said to have a maximum takeoff weight of 16 tonnes and a wingspan of 25 meters. It can reportedly cruise at altitudes up to 15,000 meters (50,000 feet) – higher than most common medium-range air defense systems – and has a range of approximately 7,000 kilometers (4,350 miles).

The jet-powered Jiu Tian is reportedly capable of carrying up to 6 tonnes of ammunition with the ability to release up to 100 units of loitering munitions or small drones, including kamikaze UAVs, from two launch bays located on either side of the fuselage.

After the aircraft completes a series of test missions, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) plans to deploy it as a “drone mother ship” UAV, which will make it possible to extend the operational radius of attack drones and boost their swarming capabilities.
