On Tuesday, Democrat Governor of Hawaii Josh Green signed the first climate change tax in the United States into law.

The new law is being deemed as a “green fee” and will be placed on Hawaii Island tourists in an effort, lawmakers claim, to make tourists pay their share for their carbon footprint.

Green, while signing the new law, stated, “It’s important so people see that where we have shoreline erosion near hotels, we’re able to protect these incredible assets.”

”Where we have people being displaced, we’re able to help them, where we see sea level rise coming up, we can adapt and we can actually have these resources from the hard monies and also likely bonds from these dollars to help us go forward with large projects as the legislature sees fit as the people across our state express need,” added Green.

Comments made by CEO BVR Subrahmanyam of the Indian government think tank NITI Aayog about the size of the Indian economy have made headlines in the country's media.

On Saturday, the head of the organization said that India was the world's fourth largest economy "as I speak".

Subrahmanyam cited IMF data to back up the claim.

In fact, as Statista's Katharina Buchholz reports, India is projected to overtake Japan and move up into rank four of the world's largest economies this year.

The prognosis is, however, just a prognosis and the sizes of global economies in retrospect, i.e. after the current year is over, could turn out otherwise.

It is highly plausible though that the projection holds true given the quick growth of the Indian economy over the years.

IMF data shows that as recently as 2013, India was only the 10th largest economy. In 1997, India was only the 16th largest economy in the world in nominal, current terms.

David Tregear, a Victoria man, saw his Equifax credit score unexpectedly drop to zero, leaving him unable to access loans or credit. He had stopped using credit to avoid debt but never expected to be penalized, according to CBC.

"I was just stunned," Tregear said. "What do you mean I don't have credit?"

Equifax only explained the issue after CBC’s Go Public got involved, citing a rarely publicized policy: credit scores may be reset to zero after long inactivity.

Tregear's score was around 700 before it vanished, and now he must rebuild it from scratch — a catch-22, as lenders reject him without an existing score.

Go Public found no law governs how credit scores are calculated in Canada, giving private agencies like Equifax unchecked control.

CBC writes that consumer advocate Geoff White called this lack of transparency a major flaw in the system, saying, “A credit score is a very important piece of information. It shouldn't be arbitrarily wiped out through lack of use of credit.”

Tregear spent over a year filing complaints with multiple regulators, only to be referred in circles. It was only after media attention that B.C. consumer agencies agreed to investigate — after previously turning him away due to jurisdictional confusion.

"I'm being punished for living debt-free," Tregear said, as he continues to face major barriers without a credit score.

Several Public Health Agency facilities did not meet occupational health and safety requirements, including first aid kits, bulletin boards, inspections, and emergency plans, amounting to significant oversights.

The Public Health Agency of Canada has failed an internal audit for not maintaining workplace first aid kits for its 4,400 employees, a Canada Labour Code requirement. This is the same agency previously criticized for lacking emergency supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Labour Code mandate requires large, federally regulated workplaces to have emergency first aid kits, of which 12 of 20 sampled facilities did not comply. No reason was given, according to Blacklock’s.

The Audit Of Occupational Health And Safety revealed that some Public Health Agency facilities did not fully meet occupational health and safety requirements, including first aid kits, bulletin boards, inspections, and emergency plans, amounting to significant oversights.

“A strong occupational health and safety program is crucial to ensuring a safe and healthy working environment and reducing the risk of accidents, injuries and illnesses,” wrote auditors. “This not only protects employee well-being but also enhances productivity.”

Established in 2004 after the SARS outbreak killed 44 Canadians, the fully-funded Public Health Agency was intended for pandemic preparedness. Its 2006 Pandemic Influenza Plan declared a future pandemic "inevitable."

A 2024 internal report, The National Emergency Strategic Stockpile’s Comprehensive Management Plan, admitted the agency "was not as prepared as it could have been" for storing medical supplies, citing "unaddressed problems with the systems and practices in place."

To save $900,000 annually in storage costs, the Public Health Agency landfilled millions of masks, gowns, and other pre-pandemic medical supplies intended for safekeeping.

Another agency audit revealed ignored warnings from 2011 to stockpile medical supplies as pandemic "insurance." This failure contributed to subsequent lockdowns and Parliament's $576 billion in emergency spending. Continue…

Carney earlier defended his company's establishment of $30 billion in Cayman Islands and Bermuda funds to maximize returns for Canadian taxpayers.

Under his leadership as chair, Brookfield reported $1 billion in profit between 2022 and 2024 but paid $0 in taxes, according to SEC filings. Prime Minister Carney led the company from 2022 until January of this year, when he announced his bid for Liberal leader.

Parents and Conservative MLAs have petitioned the New Brunswick legislature to remove a school principle who suspended a student for wearing a shirt that said 'straight pride.'

Parents have petitioned the New Brunswick legislature after a student was suspended for wearing a “straight pride” shirt to school.

On May 27, Conservative Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) presented a petition calling for the removal of Belleisle Regional High School principal Jennifer McFadden for suspending a student for wearing a straight pride” shirt, according to CBC News.

“I wanted to wear my shirt to feel included, just like anyone else could wear any other type of shirt,” Grade 10 student Jaxon McDonald said. “So I wear my shirt on this week just to express who I am and what I believe in.”

During his school’s pro-LGBT ‘”pride” celebrations, which allegedly celebrate “inclusivity,” McDonald wore a shirt reading “straight pride.”

McDonald was quickly punished by school principal McFadden, who suspended him for five days over the claim that his shirt constituted a “hate crime.”

“They told me it was a hate crime, an act of hate,” Jaxon’s father, Rob, said. “And they couldn’t give me any more reason than that.”

“They really didn’t want to hear our side of the story, and they didn’t want to hear his side of the story, wouldn’t let him talk. So there was no discussion around it,” the father continued.

The petition, signed by 390 people including MLAs Bill Oliver, Don Monahan and MLA Bill Hogan, demands that McFadden be removed from her position.

The petition called for “new leadership that reflects the principles of fairness, inclusivity, and respect for all community members.”

In addition to suspending McDonald, the petition also said that the school discriminated against students who opted out of the pro-LGBT “pride” events.

According to the petition, school administrators told students that if they refused to participate in the event they would have to leave the school property despite their parents signing forms to excuse them.

McDonald revealed that one sixth grader hid in the bathroom to avoid being forced to leave school property. The petition pointed out that department policies say students who opt out of “pride” events should be “respectfully accommodated within the school.”

The petition comes as increasing numbers of Canadians are standing up to the LGBT mob and demanding accountability from school administrators.

In fact, Campaign Life Coalition is planning its third annual National “Pride” Flag Walkout Day, which encourages parents to keep their kids home from school from Friday, May 30 through Monday, June 2 in protest of LGBT “Pride Month.”

Canadian company Barrick Mining has appealed to the World Bank’s arbitration tribunal to settle a legal dispute with Mali. The miner currently risks losing control of its gold operations in the West African country, Reuters reported on Friday.

The request to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) comes ahead of a Malian court ruling scheduled for June 2 on the government’s application to place the mine under provisional administration.

Barrick’s Loulo-Gounkoto complex, which produced nearly 700,000 ounces of gold in 2023, has been closed since January after Mali seized three tons of gold from the mine over alleged unpaid taxes – a claim Barrick denies.

According to a filing on the ICSID’s website, the mining giant is seeking “provisional measures” to prevent further actions by the Sahel state’s military leadership that could exacerbate the dispute.

The former French colony is one of Africa’s top gold producers, with large-scale operations such as the Loulo-Gounkoto mines, which are 80% owned by Barrick and 20% by the Malian government. Since taking power in a coup in 2020, the new leadership in Bamako has sought more revenue from the sector to boost state income amid rising gold prices. Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau once privately advised NATO officials that Canada would never meet the target, according to documents leaked from the Pentagon two years ago.

Now, Secretary-General Mark Rutte says that target is likely to rise to 5 percent at next month’s NATO summit in The Hague.

U.S. President Donald Trump and his ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra, have implored Canada to pony up on defense. It’s the same message American administrations have been sending to Canada for decades, including from Barack Obama’s Democrats.

Champagne has served in numerous senior Cabinet portfolios: international trade, foreign affairs, industry and now as Carney’s right hand at finance.

“We want to do big things. We want to do them fast,” he said.
