Here’s GAO’s letter to acting DOGE administrator Amy Gleason declining the request to detail DOGE staffers to the independent legislative branch organization.

NEW: DOGE tried to assign a team to the independent Government Accountability Office, but it was rejected Friday.

The GAO is part of the legislative branch and not subject to DOGE's request.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office, a legislative branch entity that helps audit government spending and suggest ways to make it more efficient, rejected DOGE's request on Friday by noting that GAO is not subject to presidential executive orders.

t's not just the GAO. DOGE has also recently tried to embed teams inside the independent Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the private nonprofit Vera Institute of Justice, for example

The GAO regularly releases reports that highlight ways to improve government efficiency, like a May 13 review of federal programs it says could save over $100 billion.

But there's been little overlap between GAO's work and DOGE's actions so far.
