The New York Times continues to work tirelessly to maintain the narrative that the United States is now a fascist regime. Earlier, the Times demonstrated its view of balanced analysis by running a collection of legal opinions titled “A Road Map to Trump’s Lawless Presidency.” Now, it is featuring three Yale professors fleeing fascism for the safety of Canada, making direct references to the rise of the Nazis. The video is titled “These Yale Professors Study Fascism.”
All three professors are going permanently to Canada to teach at the University of Toronto. It appears that the systemic rollback of free speech for conservatives in Canada is not a deterrent for Yale professors longing to be free.
The seven-minute opinion video features the three scholars: Yale philosophy Professor Jason Stanley and history professors Marci Shore and Timothy Snyder (who are married).
Shore insisted that the United States is now a fascist country replicating the Nazi takeover. Indeed, she mocks those of us who believe that our constitutional system has proven itself for centuries as a guarantor of civil liberties, including our system of checks and balances. Shore dismisses such assurances while suggesting that the American people are a virtual ship of fools in not recognizing the fascists all around them: “The lesson of 1933 is that you get out sooner rather than later.” She added that Americans are

“I think at the root, there is a kind of way that, on an emotional level, it’s not just manipulation of ideas,” she said, “but there’s a kind of emotional engineering that’s built into the platforms and doesn’t even demand, you know, at first, government involvement.”

A federal judge in New Mexico has dismissed charges against 98 illegal immigrants who crossed into a restricted National Defense Area near the U.S.-Mexico border. The domestic propaganda that westerners are fed by the powerful does not typically consist of whole-cloth fabrications, but rather of distortions, half-truths, manipulated emphasis, and lies by omission.
The worst mistake you can make when reading the news is to assume there’s a good reason why the mass media report on something in the way that they do. That there’s a good reason why Israel-Palestine gets framed as a complex and morally ambiguous issue with no clear path forward, even though it all looks pretty self-evident to you. That there must be a valid and legitimate reason why one story gets more coverage than a seemingly far more important story, like how the release of one Israeli-American hostage is currently getting far more news media coverage than the deliberate starvation of an entire enclave full of civilians.
In reality there is no valid and legitimate reason why such things are covered the way they are. The coverage happens in the way that it happens because it serves the information interests of Israel and the western empire, and for no other reason.
So much western ignorance is facilitated by the manipulative way the imperial media report on what’s going on in the world. People assume that because they’re not hearing about a given issue all the time or in a particularly urgent tone of reporting, it must not be an especially important matter that needs their attention. They assume that if one side of a conflict isn’t framed as being clearly in the wrong, then it must not be.
Westerners assume that if the world were experiencing another Holocaust, another Transatlantic Slave Trade, another Cuban Missile Crisis, they would hear about it in the news at an appropriate level of urgency. But that simply isn’t how it works. The only reason the western public is ever told about anything bad that happens at a high level of frequency and urgency is when it is convenient for the western empire, like when Russia invaded Ukraine. When that happened it was the main story in every western outlet for ages, and Russia was clearly framed as the evil aggressor, with all the NATO aggressions which provoked the invasion going completely unmentioned.
When people hear the word “propaganda” they tend to think it means the same thing as “lies”, but that’s not accurate. Most of the worst things the US and its allies are doing in the world are reported accurately by the western press at certain times and in certain publications, but they simply are not given any emphasis and amplification after those brief mentions. If you look at the hyperlinks I cite in my articles to describe the criminality of the empire it’s usually either straight out of the mainstream press or some other independent author who’s citing mainstream news reporting. The difference is that I regularly spotlight those admissions, while the imperial media will mention them once halfway down an article somewhere and then let the daily news churn carry it away down the memory hole.
Western propaganda doesn’t consist so much of manipulating what gets reported but how it gets reported. How often something gets mentioned. How often the perpetrator of an abuse is explicitly named. The type of language used to describe a given offense. These adjustments might sound insignificant when they are described, but when put into practice across the board they are extremely effective at shaping public perception of world affairs.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday said US President Donald Trump was lying about his intentions for the region, and once again called Israel a “cancerous tumor” that must be uprooted.
In his first reaction to Trump’s regional visit, Khamenei said Trump wasn’t truthful when he made claims about creating peace through power and said the Americans must be ousted from the region.
“Trump said that he wanted to use power for peace, he lied. He and the US administration used power for the massacre in Gaza, for waging wars in any place they could,” Khamenei said Saturday during a meeting with teachers broadcast on state television.
The US has provided Israel with 10-ton bombs to “drop on Gaza children, hospitals, houses of people in Lebanon and anywhere else when they can,” Khamenei claimed.
Khamenei, who has the final say on all Iranian state matters, reiterated his traditional stance, calling for the destruction of the Jewish state.
“Definitely, the Zionist regime is the source of corruption, war, and rifts. The Zionist regime that is a lethal, dangerous, cancerous tumor should certainly be eradicated, and it will be.”
Beyond repeatedly calling for Israel’s destruction, Iran has pumped billions of dollars into funding proxy terror groups like Hezbollah, Hamas and Yemen’s Houthis that threaten and attack Israel.

Corporate bankruptcies hit 15-year high, 246 major firms file for bankruptcy
The US economy is facing a wave of corporate failures not seen in over a decade. A staggering 246 large companies have filed for bankruptcy so far this year, marking the highest number in 15 years. This figure is up from 206 recorded last year and more than double the number seen during the same period in 2022.
April alone saw 59 bankruptcy filings, a sharp increase that coincides with the latest round of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. Businesses across multiple sectors are struggling to absorb rising costs, with industrials, consumer discretionary, and healthcare firms taking the hardest hit.
The industrial sector has seen 41 bankruptcies, as manufacturers grapple with supply chain disruptions and higher import costs. Consumer discretionary companies, including retailers and hospitality firms, have suffered 31 failures, largely due to inflation and weakened consumer spending. Healthcare providers are also feeling the pressure, with 17 bankruptcies recorded as operational costs continue to climb.
S&P Global warns that consumer discretionary firms are particularly vulnerable, citing market volatility and uncertainty surrounding trade policies. Many businesses that rely on imported goods are finding it impossible to maintain profitability under the current tariff structure.
The trend is expected to worsen throughout 2025. Analysts predict that more companies will struggle to refinance debt as interest rates remain elevated. The combination of inflation, trade restrictions, and declining consumer confidence is creating a perfect storm for corporate failures.

Warren Buffett Sells $168M in Davita Shares One Day Before Dialysis Provider Hit by Lawsuit
Berkshire Hathaway chair Warren Buffett proved once again his foresight for businesses when he sold over a million shares of DaVita a day before the dialysis service provider was sued.
Buffett sold 1,145,938 shares of DaVita worth £126.23 million ($168.57 million) on 8th May
Buffett made the stock trade a day before the company was hit by a lawsuit filed by the Pennsylvania-based United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776 on 9th May. The benefits fund pays for dialysis services for its members.
According to the lawsuit, DaVita illegally ‘carved up’ regions in the US to avoid competition. The plaintiffs also accused the company of engaging in parallel price hikes that were higher relative to rivals since 2021 and ‘not adequately explained by market forces.’

FDA Makes Big Announcement On Fluoride
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is removing from the market prescription drug products for children that contain concentrated ingestible fluoride, the agency announced this past week.
The FDA cited studies that suggest a connection between ingested fluoride in children and lower IQ, weight gain, and thyroid issues.
“Unlike toothpaste with fluoride or fluoride rinses, these products are swallowed and ingested by infants and toddlers,” a press release from the agency said. “They have also never been approved by the FDA.”
“Ingested fluoride has been shown to alter the gut microbiome, which is of magnified concern given the early development of the gut microbiome in childhood,” the press release added. “Other studies have suggested an association between fluoride and thyroid disorders, weight gain and possibly decreased IQ.”
FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said it’s vital that the FDA “err on the side of safety” when it comes to our children.
“The best way to prevent cavities in children is by avoiding excessive sugar intake and good dental hygiene, not by altering a child’s microbiome. For the same reason that fluoride may kill bacteria on teeth, it may also kill intestinal bacteria important for a child’s health,” the commissioner said in a statement. “I am instructing our Center for Drug Evaluation and Research to evaluate the evidence regarding the risks of systemic fluoride exposure from FDA-regulated pediatric ingestible fluoride prescription drug products to better inform parents and the medical community on this emerging area. When it comes to children, we should err on the side of safety.”
Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. applauded Makary for the action.
“Thank you, [Dr. Marty Makary] for your leadership on this issue,” he posted to X on Saturday. “A recent systematic review published in JAMA Pediatrics, analyzing 74 high-quality studies, found a clear association between fluoride exposure and reduced IQ in children. This isn’t fringe science—this is mainstream, peer-reviewed data. Yes, when it comes to children, we should always err on the side of safety.”

New Syrian president told lawmakers he wants to move his country away from Iran, China and Russia
Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., said he saw "Make Syria Great Again" signs around Damascus as Trump's popularity grows inside the war-torn country.
One of the few U.S. members of Congress to meet with Syria's new leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, says the former terrorist wants to pivot his country away from China, Iran and Russia and closer to the U.S. amid signs of President Donald Trump's growing popularity among the war-weary Syrian people.
"There's actually signs around Damascus to say, 'Make Syria Great Again.' So they're big fans of President Trump," Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., told the Just the News, No Noise television show. "I think this new president…I told him, 'the opportunity you have is incredible.' The Syrian people are remarkable."
Trump met with al-Sharaa this week in a sign that Syria is growing closer to the United States after years of ostracization over concerns about its human rights, terrorism and Iranian ties. The American president lifted sanctions against Syria as well.
Earlier, Stutzman and Florida GOP Rep. Cory Mills met for an hour during the Easter vacation with al-Sharaa in Damascus, walking away impressed that the former al-Qaeda member turned politician is moving Syria in a positive direction.
"I was impressed with the people that he's picking around him, the things that he's saying and the actions that he's been taking are showing that he seems to be wanting to move in a direction towards the West," Stutzman explained.
Stutzman said al-Sharaa told him he had refused an offer from Russia and doesn't have any interest in doing business with China.
"They want to do business with the West," Stutzman said. "If they can move and stop any sort of jihad training [or] any sort of that jihadi mentality in the Middle East, there is a real opportunity for peace and prosperity there."
Trump told reporters that al-Sharra was a "tough guy" who had the opportunity to bring stability to Syria.
In December of last year, Islamist rebels stormed the Syrian capital of Damascus, resulting in dictator Bashar al-Assad fleeing the country. Al-Sharaa soon took over as president after Assad was ousted.
Stutzman said that regarding al-Sharaa's relationship with Iran, he was open to letting the country have an embassy, but its visas would be limited.
"He actually was very much to the point on Iran, especially," Stutzman said. "He said that he was open to letting Iran have an embassy, but he would limit their visas and the amount of traffic coming from Iran, and he didn't want to let them basically congregate in a certain part of the country."
While meeting with al-Sharaa, Trump delivered a stern warning to Iran that its only path to normalization is to abandon both terrorism and its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Predictive Policing & EU Privacy Violations
In 2020, Dutch privacy group SOMI demanded a probe into Palantir’s secretive work with EU police and spy agencies, including Europol and German state police.
SOMI accused Palantir of abusing civilian data and pushing “predictive policing” that undermines the presumption of innocence.
The Verge revealed that between 2012–2018, Palantir ran covert predictive policing programs in New Orleans—without public consent.
ICE Deportations & Family Separation
Palantir’s software has been used by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for workplace raids, deportations, and family separations, according to Vice and The Intercept.
The Intercept also reported in 2017 that Palantir tools allowed ICE to track US citizens using biometric data and access classified intelligence — even from the CIA.
Branding WikiLeaks a “Threat”
WikiLeaks shared what appears to be a 2011 Palantir white paper that explicitly labeled the organization a “threat.”
The document suggests Palantir was keeping surveillance on WikiLeaks’ servers, its founder Julian Assange, and staff members.
It also indicated Palantir’s intent to “capitalize” on WikiLeaks’ vulnerabilities and “combat” the group.

White House Working on Plan to Send 1 Million Palestinians to Libya
The Donald Trump administration is attempting to bribe one of the warring parties in Libya to accept 1 million Palestinians that Israel is attempting to cleanse from Gaza. Libya became a failed state after the US-led regime change war against longtime dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
According to NBC News, multiple US officials confirmed that the Trump administration was in negotiations with one of Libya’s competing governments. “In exchange for the resettling of Palestinians, the administration would potentially release to Libya billions of dollars of funds that the U.S. froze more than a decade ago,” the report explains.
The NBC News report did not specify if the US was talking with the Tripoli-based government led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, or the eastern government led by Khalifa Haftar. Libya has been in a state of civil war since the US-backed jihadist-linked rebels overthrew and murdered Gaddafi in 2011.
