Major phone networks go down in parts of Spain, weeks after power outage
Major mobile networks went down across parts of Spain on Tuesday, just weeks after a nationwide power outage hit the country.
Users of Movistar, Orange, O2 and Vodaphone all reported having connection issues in the early hours of the morning.
Issues with the networks affected parts of Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga and Madrid according to Downdetector, a website which collates user reported outages.
Spanish media reported Telefonica had experienced outages to specific services, including company landlines and 112 emergency service lines, with some networks having already been restored.
Telecommunication companies said the outage was due to network upgrades and that they are working to restore connection to people's devices.
In a statement on social media, O2 Spain said: "Due to network upgrades, some customers' fiber and mobile services have been affected.
"Some services have now been restored, and we continue working to return to normal operations as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience."
Movistar also posted a message on social media, saying: "We have carried out some network upgrade work that has affected specific fixed communications services (voice and internet) for some customers.
"Some services have already been restored and we continue working to return to normal as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience."
