SANTA FE, N.M. —
The Office of the New Mexico State Auditor has ordered an urgent special audit of Mora County. According to State Auditor Joseph Maestas, they discovered “alarming” evidence of financial misconduct, procurement violations, and $2.7 million in unaccounted public funds. On Friday, May 16, 2025, the Office of the New Mexico State Auditor sent a designation letter to inform Mora County of its special audit.
