Immigration & Customs Enforcement Officials Hold News Conference
Immigration & Customs Enforcement officials held a news conference criticizing a Massachusetts federal judge's order blocking the Trump administration's deportation of convicted criminals to South Sudan and elsewhere. ICE spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin, acting Director Todd Lyons, and Deputy Director Madison Sheahan said the individuals being deported were "violent" criminals who were in the United States illegally, including one who was convicted of raping a mentally handicapped person. The officials said ICE was complying with the order from Judge Brian Murphy, but said that order was unfairly holding up the administration's efforts to swiftly deport undocumented immigrants with violent criminal records. Ms. McLaughlin also criticized journalists covering the case, saying they were more concerned about the deported individuals than the victims of their crimes.
