Trump Cancels $1M USDA-China Max Pain Bird Flu Gain-of-Function Experiments
Following a year-long White Coat Waste (WCW) campaign, Trump Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has confirmed the USDA is ending its collaboration with Wuhan-linked experimenters on dangerous maximum pain bird flu gain-of-function tests.
WCW’s investigation exposed how in 2021 the USDA launched a five-year $1 million collaboration with the Wuhan lab’s parent organization to soup up bird flu viruses and see if they could jump to mammals.
Records secured by WCW via the Freedom of Information Act showed that animals as young as one day old would be infected with bird flu and allowed to suffer in painful and “severe” experiments without any pain relief.
This victory follows recent WCW wins against wasteful animal experiments in Chinese labs funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
In April 2020, WCW first uncovered—and prompted President Trump to end—Fauci’s funding for gain-of-function animal experiments at the Wuhan lab.

The Treasury Department issued a general license that authorizes transactions involving the interim Syrian government led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
The Trump administration on Friday issued orders that it said would effectively lift sanctions on Syria, after President Donald Trump earlier this month pledged to unwind the measures to help the country rebuild after a devastating civil war.
The Treasury Department issued a general license that authorizes transactions involving the interim Syrian government led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, as well as the central bank and state-owned enterprises.
The general license, known as GL25, "authorizes transactions prohibited by the Syrian Sanctions Regulations, effectively lifting sanctions on Syria," the Treasury said in a statement.
"GL25 will enable new investment and private sector activity consistent with the President’s America First strategy," the statement said.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio also issued a 180-day waiver under the Caesar Act to ensure that sanctions do not obstruct investment and to facilitate the provision of electricity, energy, water and sanitation and enable humanitarian efforts, he said in a statement.

Maj.-Gen. David Zini, recently selected by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the next head of the Shin Bet, has expressed strong opposition to hostage exchanges in internal military discussions, Channel 12 reported on Friday.
The remarks, reportedly made during closed-door meetings, have sparked concern among hostage families and added to existing criticism regarding his suitability for the post.
Zini also reportedly voiced his stance multiple times over the past year during deliberations about potential hostage deals: “I am against hostage deals; this is an eternal war.”
Hostage families, who are looking to the government and security agencies for renewed efforts to secure the release of 58 Israeli captives still held in Gaza, reportedly worry Zini's approach could impede progress. As one source told Channel 12, his views could significantly shift the tone and direction of future negotiations.
In response to Channel 12's report, the military stated it does not comment on statements made during internal discussions.
The families of the hostages are "outraged by Maj. Gen. Zini’s reported remarks. If the report is accurate, these are shocking and reprehensible comments from someone who may soon hold the fate of the hostages in his hands," a statement from the Hostages Families Forum wrote.
"Appointing a Shin Bet chief who prioritizes Netanyahu's war over the return of the hostages is a grave injustice and a betrayal of the entire people of Israel. It undermines the value of solidarity and the sacred duty of leaving no one behind. The families demand clarification," it declared.
Netanyahu justifies Shin Bet head appt, says Zini will not be involved in 'Qatargate' probe
The Prime Minister's Office on Friday responded to criticism of the decision to appoint Maj.-Gen. David Zini as the new Shin Bet head to replace Ronen Bar, who was fired despite a High Court of Justice ruling that the decision was illegal.
The PMO stated that the designated head of the Shin Bet would not be involved in "Qatargate" investigations. This followed the High Court ruling that said there was a conflict of interest due to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his aides' connection to the “Qatargate” scandal, which the Shin Bet is probing along with the police.
The statement said that during the war, it is inappropriate to settle for appointing an acting head of the Shin Bet, and that a permanent head of the Shin Bet must be appointed "as soon as possible."
