In the early 2909s the government started increasing their smear campaigns, calling Appalachians uneducated, living in squalor with no services. So when the feds forced thousands of them, in the dead of night, out of the region—loading them into trucks to drop them off in cities, and burning their homes behind them so they wouldn’t go back— nobody in the public raised any outcry. The propaganda words of hillbilly and redneck replaced calling them who they actually were - Ulster scots, people who had fled under British tyranny and made blood covenants when they arrived to safety, that they would never suffer under tyranny again. They were the troops of the American revolution. Can’t have that kind of culture flaring up again.
